This UPS 747 is taking off on the north/south runway at Ted Stevens Airport in Anchorage, Alaska. The Chugach Mountains frame the background while brown grass frames the foreground. They had just completed work on these runways a month earlier which, while they were working on them, forced takeoffs on the east/west runways which meant flying over the city of Anchorage. I think lots of folks were happy when they reopened these runways!

I went to Bosque del Apache for the Sandhill Cranes. There were, of course, lots of other birds and mammals, but for me, it was all about the cranes I'd only seen occasionally through my life, and always from afar. The cranes did not disappoint. There were a few stragglers leaving this roosting area pond on this early morning, so I stayed on this bird for liftoff.
Wondering about all the out-of-focus white stuff, looks like it's snowing? - those are feathers, my friends...

Friday night at the Ravines before I went to the Jenison homecoming football game. I waited for awhile while shifting to three different angles on the Eagle before he decided to take off.

Gnatcatchers use their tails a lot. And I like that you can see it in action here as well as the obvious spreading of the wings.

Two sandhill cranes lift off from the marsh in Bosque del Apache as three others get ready to join them.
ISO 25600! Even after judicious application of Adobe AI Denoise, it's still pretty noisy but I'm glad to have the shot at all.
Model of human brain rotated in front of an open shutter. The model is about 7 mm long, and was made by my daughter for a school project.
As I continue to edit photos of snow geese, I continue to be amazed. Here are some of the photos I've worked with this morning.
A Canada goose captured on the edge of San Francisco Bay. I added the sky texture using Topaz Textures.
Great egret preparing for liftoff. Kiwanis Lake Rookery, York, Pennsylvania.
I'll be taking off for a few days in search of some hopefully great new photos.
Dusk has arrived as a pair of matched Union Pacific EMD SD60s lift an eastbound UP 12th St Yard to A&S Gateway Yard transfer job over the rough industrial scene of St. Louis' riverfront. The train is currently working its way up the west approach to the MacArthur Bridge, which carries the tracks across the Mississippi River connecting both Missouri and Illinois.
