This is an old Polaroid, thats why the image is slightly faded and the colour is a bit iffy.
View from the top of the Salford Precinct tower block 1974. Pendleton Church is just visable on the right hand side of the photo and to the top left you can see the huge chimneys at Agecroft Power Station (these where demolished in 1991). The main road from left to right across the photo is Broad Street and the building in construction is St James's House on Pendleton Way.
My dad took this photo in 1974, just thought i'd post it to coinside with the new series of the BBC's Life on Mars which is set in Manchester around the same time this photo was taken.

well in this photo of Mars , taken by the rover you can clearly see ; The head of a man with glasses this is the actual mars photo.
Over the weekend I visited two 'Little Gems'. This is the first of them: Inverforth House, Hampstead Heath, LONDON
The original house on this site was built in 1807 and one of the notable families that lived there was the Fisher family. Mr & Mrs George Fisher and their 5 children, they occupied the house from 1896-1904. Fisher was in joint partnership with a Mr. Robinson, auctioneers and dealers in fine art. Unfortunately following the death of his wife, Fisher lost his fortune and was forced to sell and leave. It was purchased by William Lever, 1st Viscount Leverhulme in that same year, 1904 and that family lived there until 1925.
The house was renovated and almost completely rebuilt. It was Grayson and Ould, a Liverpool architectural company who did the work. They rebuilt the Central Block, plus the northern and southern wings. They also undertook a terrace and a verandah which was added to the terrace was designed by Thomas Mawson. The gardens were also designed by Thomas Mawson in 1906, who also remodelled the south wing of the house.
The greater part of the gardens are now owned by the City of London Corporation and open to the public but the house is definitely private.
The house was to become a hospital after Lord Leverhulme’s death in 1956. The Orthopaedic Society Hospital occupied the house from 1956 well into the 1980’s. Sometime during the late 1990’s the house was converted into two houses and seven apartments.
There are two blue plaques, 1: To Viscount Leverholme and 2: Ronald Fisher, son of George Fisher. Ronald Fisher was a famous geneticist and statistician.
For you Bowie fans this seat is just for you all. "Now She walks through her sunken dream to the seat with the clearest view"
Lookin ahed 50 years: The dustguns have worked all night, the piste is groomed and here they go ...
Could not resist - it's a shot trough the glasses of my ski goggles.

Bradford's grimmest architecture
Can there be beauty in grimness? This concrete carbuncle in the centre of Bradford really reflects the mood of a city in decline yet its ugliness exerts some sort of authority over its surroundings.
Out snapping in Wapping this afternoon, my eye was caught by a shiny red Quattro with a film crew around it.
I lowered my camera after taking this picture and I thought to myself "I know the back of that head." just as Philip Glenister (for it was him on the right) ducked into the car!
Seems he's traded in his Cortina for a Quattro in the Life on Mars spin-off, Ashes to Ashes.
I dunno if anyone outside the UK will have a clue what I'm on about :-)
That's Keeley Hawes in the white jacket on the left, BTW.

Unedited NASA Raw Image Showing A Real UFO (2). The short video in this post has had 45 million views and that's insane for what is effectively "something that doesn't exist" according to NASA anyways, lol. But, if you check out (just a few) of NASA's own images from their vast ocean of archived images and videos you'll see what all the fuss is about. That's why people go hunting for UFOs in NASA archives as there's millions to look through. Here's some Mars epic finds. #marsufo #mars #martianlife #lifeonmars #phobosmonolith #aliensarereal #marsufos #realufoonmars #marsshinymetalufo #metalonmars #metallicufomars #ufosightingsfootage #ufosfootage #airforcesilverufo #silvermetalufo #planesilverufo #moonbase #silverufo #triangularrealufo #moonufos #triangleufomoon #triangularufomoon #tr3b #tr3bs #marsroverufo #marsrover #roverufo #roverufoimagev #marsroverufovideo #marsroverufoswimage #imagesofmarsufo #bestmarsufofootage #bestufo #bestufos #thebestufo #thebestufoimage @ufosightingsfootage @ufosfootage
afrikaans language monument, paarl, western cape
from “artefacts”-
“Afrikaanse Taalmonument, Paarl
On the southern slopes of the Paarlberg, Paarl stands the Afrikaans Language Monument. SJ du Toit, the so-called 'father' of the Afrikaans language lies buried in the Kleinbosch cemetery in the proximate Daljosafat, hence the choice of the site.
In 1965 the Afrikaans Monument Committee, established in 1942 to this end, issued a competition for the design of this monument. The panel of assessors comprised WJ du P Erlank, Prof AL MEIRING and JDP van der Merwe, who selected the entry of the architect Jan VAN WIJK as winner.
In his conception the three pylons to the left of the approach to the monument represent the formative cultures of the Afrikaans language, namely those from Europe - Dutch, German and French. On the podium to the right are three hemispherical protrusions representative of the influence of mystical Africa. The single central marker represents the direct influence of the imported Asian [so-called ‘Malay’] slaves. Where these all meet on the level of the podium the sweep of the 57 meter pylon arises representing the melding of these influences into an ever–growing dynamic language. Directly below this pylon lies a bubbling fountain and an undulating passageway with the play of light through a myriad of appertures in the wall, representing the life-force of continuous growth. The Republican pylon to the right is directed to the African hinterland so as to engage the monument in a continuous dialogue with the continent.
Officially opened on 10 October 1975.”
It's on America's tortured brow
That Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow
Now the workers have struck for fame
'Cause Lennon's on sale again
See the mice in their million hordes
From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads
Rule Britannia is out of bounds
To my mother, my dog, and clowns
No blurry nonsense on this just a good old mono conversion in Elements with a little sharpening and a slight crop.
It's a god-awful small affair
To the girl with the mousy hair
But her mummy is yelling "No"
And her daddy has told her to go
But her friend is nowhere to be seen
Now she walks through her sunken dream
To the seat with the clearest view
And she's hooked to the silver screen
But the film is a saddening bore
'Cause she's lived it ten times or more
She could spit in the eyes of fools
As they ask her to focus on
Sailors fighting in the dance hall
Oh man! Look at those cavemen go
It's the freakiest show
Take a look at the Lawman
Beating up the wrong guy
Oh man! Wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show
Is there life on Mars?
It's on America's tortured brow
That Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow
Now the workers have struck for fame
'Cause Lennon's on sale again
See the mice in their million hordes
From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads
Rule Britannia is out of bounds
To my mother, my dog, and clowns
But the film is a saddening bore
'Cause I wrote it ten times or more
It's about to be writ again
As I ask you to focus on
Sailors fighting in the dance hall
Oh man! Look at those cavemen go
It's the freakiest show
Take a look at the Lawman
Beating up the wrong guy
Oh man! Wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show
Is there life on Mars?
Dios mío, mira a esos cavernícolas,
Dios mío, mira a esos cavernícolas,
que espectáculo más extraño.
Mira a ese policía
pegando al tipo equivocado.
Dios mío, me pregunto si alguna vez se dará cuenta
de que forma parte de este espectáculo.
¿Hay vida en Marte?
DI Hunt is back - 'Ashes To Ashes' starts on BBC1 tonight.
And, coincidentally, it's the last track on, what I hasten to add is, my wife's Bowie's Greatest Hits LP, so I drafted it in as my chosen cover for today's Flickr Group Roulette.
Long time viewers of this stream will remember that I did 'Life On Mars' last year. 'Life On Mars' is not on this LP.
Note Catherine in the background, ignoring my increasingly eccentric behaviour.
