“My biggest story is that I got clean and sober 13 years ago, and I stopped smoking a year ago.”

“How did you manage to do it? Did you go to AA meetings.”

“No, man. I know it helps some people, and I’d love to tell my story if I can help someone, but I don’t want to hear it from others again and again. Because it’s my story. And it brings me back in, it drags me down. How long can you stay at the barber shop without getting a haircut?

I stopped because I got locked up a few times and I got tired of it. I had enough. I didn’t want to be that guy anymore. I was drinking, I was dealing and getting high, and you can’t do that. I was living on the street, I started panhandling, I was making $200 a day, I got comfortable. The last time, I spent 18 moths in jail, and the day I got out, right as I walked outside, they called me back in and said, ‘You’re going back in for 60 days.’ They didn’t tell me why. It was the longest 60 days of my life. It felt longer than the 18 months. But I was done. They say that jail doesn’t change people, but it can, if you let it. In my case, it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I can’t say I’ll never relapse, but every time I see someone homeless or drunk or high I see my story. I am that guy. I was that guy. And I don’t want to be that guy ever again.”

January 26, 2016-Hi Rememberize, aka Remi. Last night I started working on some natural horsemanship with Remi. We had our ups and downs, but in the end I could see some progress. The slow correct progress without anger or frustration, towards goals and harmony takes time and won't happen overnight. Natural horsemanship has not only changed how I work with horses, but also how I approach things in life. It teaches and test your patience, compassion, timing, and determination. "Be as gentle as possible, but as firm as necessary. When you are firm, don't get mad or angry. When you are gentle, don't act like a sissy. " This is a great quote that truly expresses the essence of natural horsemanship. To give just enough correction as necessary and then go back to neutral. Always go back to neutral, don't hold on to the correction. It is a hard practice to learn and to perfect, Remi definitely tested me last night. I was firm when necessary, gentle and rewarding, and returned to neutral as soon as possible to let him know that I didn't hold anything against him. With this we were able to make progress, he could see if I was going to follow through with my requests, and for him to have trust in me.

All too often I find that people hold onto their anger and or use too much force for the circumstance. I have learned to try and use as little "firmness" as possible to have my point across and to try and let go of anger as soon as possible. Life is too short, enjoy and live each day to its fullest.

ODC- "uva uvam vivendo varia fit" (That which has transitioned over time)

I was trying for something that was a bit different than your usual horse photo. For my first try I'll take it. I setup a light and in this shot Remi was putting his nose right into it lol.

A million dollar thought.
