May 28, 149/366 (1610/1827)- Five years ago today I was trying to finish up some work on our second story roof; a ladder bracket bent tossing me about 20-25' onto the railing I am sitting on. It shattered my femur and hip among other problems. For a few brief moments I was dead, but my leg hurt too bad to go to the famous light. My daughter was standing on the edge of that concrete porch and my head bounced off her soft tennis shoes, no doubt saving me from a fatal brain injury.
In those five years I have been through a lot of physical therapy, several surgeries, and some tough times mentally . . . but overall it has been one of the best things that has happened to us. It certainly has given me a new perspective on life, strengthened our family, and keeps me off ladders!
Happy Memorial Day, and remember what the original purpose of this day really means to us.

I have just laid to rest a great unwieldy project. It is not completely vanquished. There will be death throes to deal with before the thing is well and truly put out of its misery. But I have done the bulk of the work, delivered the fatal blow. And for now life is all just chocolate covered cherries.

Do you remember when I announced last week that I am going to win the 27 million Jackpot of the Dutch Lotto thingie?! Well, I did play and I did win, but not the expected Jackpot, just a lousy 4,50 euros...wait, what am I saying, a lousy 4,50 euros?! It's money and it'll buy me a nice pack of cigarettes, seems that I'm a natural winner, so it's all good...if only I could forget the fact that I've spent 7 euros on the ticket that won me that cash, hahaha ;-D
