Takin' in a set of some sweet live jazz at the Green Mill I started talking to a photographer from Austria.
He was impressed with my gear and it's ability to capture images in the really low light of the Green Mill.
I handed him the camera and he tried his hand at some 'up close' shooting of the Viewminder.
He did pretty good.
It's tough in such a low light environment... there's a lot of noise in the shot because the ISO is set at 3200... the shutter's open for a long time and you gotta hold that camera really still and hope your subject doesn't move too much either.
Relativity matters.
The real skill of shooting like that is always being aware of the light and being able to 'stop' all of your own motion instantaneously as you fire the shutter...
It's really pretty 'physical'... I mean... after doing it all night you'll be sore from the motion of it... it's not natural to be moving around in a dynamic environment with a moving target and then immediately freezing your motion to become as still as possible to take the shot.
It's like some 'kung fu' shit.
I love the challenge of shooting in low light like that.
I can't imagine what'd be like with a camera like Nikon's D3 that'll go up to ISO 25000 with no noise.
I'd be afraid it'd be too easy and the challenge would disappear... but man... all of the shots that I'd come home with...
so many of the shots I take on the street don't come out.
'Heartbreakers' I call them.
I've become so much more aware of the light as I chase these images at night though.
It's a different world.
Don't be afraid of the night.
Welcome to the new, clean, family-friendly Amsterdam...Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated!
Amsterdam used to be a place where you could do things that might have you end up in jail in most other countries, but thanks to our city council in general and our mayor Job Cohen and the dried-out, fun-hating, people-despising and narrow-minded Els Iping and Lodewijk Asscher in particular, you will have to resort to playing double dutch rope games to get your kicks nowadays, neat ey?!
Welcome to a new age, keep your bible ready and assume a God-loving position please or rot in Hell!
I've said many, sometimes maybe biased things about the developments in the best city in the world, but it seems that nobody of any importance is listening to my whining ;-)

After a whole night of dance, I was dripping with sweat, my feet were killing me, and my face ached (all that smiling!). But I felt great.

It was really sunny and kind of warm today. As I was walking the dogs down Janssen Street I noticed this sparrow sunbathing on a front porch. Life is good.

so whats a girl to do, but dive in, crack a cider and put her feet up?
I took a few photos for my friends this evening. And, they were so nice to allow me a JUMP shot ❤. After 10 years of marriage and two beautiful daughters, it looks like family life suits them well. xoxo
