Todo board for the slip method

A magnet board made from an old picture frame and some weathered galvanised steel. The action slips are arranged in context groups, e.g. 'dry weather', 'daytime', 'neutral' etc. with symbol and code magnets giving further information, and identifying the actions on the time graph to the right.

The advantage of writing a todo list on individual slips is the flexibility of being able to rearrange them, and move the slips to wherever they may be needed at any given time, e.g. from conception on the move to a project file, to the tickler, to the todo board, and maybe to a portable mini folder/wallet as a reminder when on the go, and perhaps back into the tickler for rescheduling. When the job is done, the slip is removed and the integrety of the list retained. The slip can also have additional, possibly dynamic information added to it, like context or symbols for importance, effort , concentration or time required, or any other criteria.

The first thing on my mind is my plans for today.

I wake up with an alarm clock ⏰

Share💡 lifehack: in order not to succumb to the temptation to translate alarm clock "for at least 5 minutes" 💤 I specifically put it at the other end of the room 🔔 It makes you get out of bed and reduces the chance of returning to sleep 😁

Then I wash my face and go for a walk with the dog 🐕, Polycom, our red-haired happiness ☀️

Along the way, I call my mom. Very often, in the rhythm of everyday life, constant hustle and bustle, we forget about our relatives 😔 Despite the workload, I always try to allocate at least a couple of minutes ⌚️in order to call близ loved ones, show care and say simple warm words ❤ ❤ For me it is important.

Upon returning home 🏠 I do exercises 💪 and take a cold shower🚿 If the graph is given more or less free to write 📹 Instagram videos with exercises🏃about how to keep fit every day 👌

After a while, I feed the dog and the Hedgehog cat, by the way, also red.

I drink coffee ☕️, have breakfast 🍳, view text news 📰 about finance and science . I don't watch TV 📺 and have completely excluded reading about politics. What I advise you to do 👍 The result is a great mood 😌, free time has become much more, and negative thoughts are less 😉

Well, after all this, I take up my favorite job 💼

❓And how does your day start? Share in the comments! 🙏

Yeah, it's crude but it works!

Items that I used...they were at hand but you can obviously use better things:

-"Take Along Food Bowl" in translucent plastic.

-Lots of foil.

-Scissors and dremel tool set. (Dremel helped a lot!)

-Tape.

-Wax Paper.

-Bubble mailer. (This one was yellow.)

-7-11 Big Gulp cup. (It was a stiff enough plastic that I can actually cut easily.)

-Your own external flash. (I used my Canon 580 EX II)

-Dad.

(Some instructions down below.)

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

UPDATE: I've since replaced the flimsy bubble mailer part with the cardboard part of a large box that carries soda (pop) cans. Using the cardboard helped in reducing the light loss from where the flash was inserted to. Plus, it was stiff enough without being to bendable. Also I have since lined the white part (inside) of the Big Gulp cup with black construction paper which help reduced some flare back into the lens.

Another Update: After all this time, I realized I didn't put up any instructions. The pictures are semi self explanatory, but I can fill in some details.

---->Some Instructions:

-Make a hole in both the bowl and cover. I used scissors or use whatever tool is easiest for you. The plastic was soft enough that it was cut.

-I cut the Gulp cup at both ends.

-I lined the outside of the cup and bowl with aluminum foil.

-I lined the inside of the bowl cover with wax paper.

-Cut square hole on the outside side of the bowl. Before doing this, I eyeballed it on how close or far it was from my camera, lens, and flash.

-See the "UPDATE" part above for further cardboard instructions for the part that attaches to your flash head. Cut to bend towards your flash head. Line with foil, of course.

Any more questions, feel free to ask below in the comments.

Thanks, and enjoy.

-Amanda

Just a little something that i believe is important...those of you on FB know that i have shared this there, but since this is a very art based and creative community i decided to share it here as well.

Not gonna lie...some of you will not want to take the time to read it...but it is dear to my heart because it explains SO much TO me...ABOUT me, and the other creatives i know. It may come as a surprise to some of you and others not so much. it puts into words what i have tried over the years to explain to those that do not get me.

i was one of the ones surprised by this....mainly because it was like someone was sitting voyueristically at my window and writing down each and every one of these things while they watched me. They did not miss ONE thing. freaky....and yet a relief of having a way to express what i feel on a daily basis.

i am off to explore and run some errands...do some collecting and commune with me for awhile. I hope those of you that take the time to look at this will think about what it says....and maybe understand the creative in you...or others around you to some degree. Not everyone will hit every point on this list dead center....but most of you will KNOW which ones are you instantly!

Have a beautiful Tuesday and revel in being you! oh, and please do comment....i love hearing what you think when it comes to your journey in creativity!

This is the same couple you saw a couple of photos further back, standing close together just outside the entrance to the Park Kultury metro station in central Moscow.

Here, they were sitting on a park bench across the street. They were off to my left side, and I didn't even see them at first -- I was concentrating instead on a little girl feeding a huge flock of pigeons (shown in the next photo in this Flickr set).

And when I did see them, it didn't occur to me that they were the same people I had seen (and photographed) just a few minutes earlier. In the previous photo, the woman's hood is down, and you saw the man's face from the other side.

As for the pigeon … well, sometimes you get lucky.

***************************

It's April, 2013 and I know I'm in Moscow … but beyond that, I don't really know where I am. Well, it's not really that bad — I just feel like I don't know where I am. I'm staying in a quiet little hotel in the historical center of the city, just off Ostozhenka Street, and about a mile from the Kremlin. I can see the famous gold-domed "Christ the Savior" church from the street, and I'm just a couple blocks from the Park Kultury metro station. But I can't read any of the street signs, I can't understand what any of the people on the street are saying to each other, and if I lost my bearings I think would probably end up floating along the Moscow River, face-down …

But people are people, wherever they are. You might notice a few differences from the look and style and clothing of the New Yorkers I normally photograph … but not so much. The weather here in early April is much like it was for the first three months of the year in NYC: cold temperatures, raw wind, gray leaden skies. People are bundled up in heavy dark coats, scarves, and hats; if you look only at the people, you might not know where you were located. But the signs and posters and billboards are different, and that gives you a clue. I looked at one familiar face on a poster for quite a while before I realized it was telling me (in Russian) that Kevin Costner has a rock band, and that he's performing in in Moscow. Good luck with that!

Anyway, this is a small sample of the people I saw along Ostozhenka Street and outside the Park Kultury metro station.

Enjoy ...

Waiting for iPhone 3g - Jul 18, 2008 - 058

This young man and woman seemed to be writing a computer program, or perhaps building a website, as they sat in a shady area off to the side of the people waiting in line ... I didn't get close enough to them to see exactly what they were up to ...

Silly me: after the iPhone 3g had been out for a full week, I thought I could stroll right into the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue & 59th Street in mid-town Manhattan, and simply buy one without any muss, fuss, bother, or delay.

But when I arrived at 11 AM, I found a line of approximately 150 people waiting outside in the broiling sun, not seeming to move forward at all; it turned out that the Apple store "concierge" folks were letting them in in groups of ten, when the previous ten had been taken care of. When I asked the woman how long she had been waiting, she said, "Four hours" -- she had arrived at 7 AM, having already determined that the AT&T stores were sold out throughout New Jersey and Connecticut.

Well, I'm a gadget freak and a Mac fan, but there's a limit to my passion for such things; four hours was just too much. So instead, I decided to take a bunch of pictures of the people who were in the line. Of course, I have no idea whethere the people queued up in front of Apple stores in other cities (or at other stores here in NYC) are similar to this group ... but I'm inclined to think that they are. And if that's true, then the demographics of this group -- in terms of age, gender, nationality, ethnic groups, etc. -- is particularly intriguing. I saw only one guy dressed in a corporate uniform of suit and tie; Apple may be trying to break into the "enterprise" market, but that's not who was standing in line for all those hours in the sun...

Being in Yellowstone National Park is amazing.

Being in Yellowstone National Park in the Fall is simply spectacular.

Being in Yellowstone National Park and being paid for it is awesome!

I just came back from a very quick trip to Yellowstone National Park. I was there for a work related project to capture still and video stock footage.

This is Artist Point in the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. As I arrived there with my co-worker there were already hundreds of people fresh from their tour buses snapping photographs. I simply made my way were they weren’t congregating and found this viewpoint. The trees were a perfect framing device and added depth to the overall scene.

Sometimes it pays off to venture on your own and not follow the herd mentality.

Happy Travels!

"Seize the day" is a popular phrase that translates the Latin "carpe diem". This idiom encourages people to make the most of the present moment without worrying too much about the future. It's a philosophy that advocates for living life to the fullest by taking action, pursuing opportunities, and appreciating the now. The phrase suggests a sense of urgency, reminding us that time is finite and each day is a unique chance to create something meaningful, experience joy, and fulfill our potential. It's an antidote to procrastination and a call to embrace life's possibilities.

The concept behind "seize the day" has been a recurring theme throughout history, appearing in various forms of literature and philosophy. From ancient Roman poets like Horace to modern-day motivational speakers, the idea remains the same: life is fleeting, and we should not waste a single moment. It's a powerful reminder to prioritize experiences over possessions and to value our time. This doesn't mean acting recklessly, but rather approaching each day with intention and purpose, actively choosing to live rather than simply exist. In essence, it's a timeless call to action for anyone who wants to lead a more fulfilled and engaged life.
