Photage 127: I went on another field trip yesterday! I visited two more high schools and connected with students, teachers, administrators, and counselors. It was exciting, eye opening, and a tad intimidating. But, through it allI have learned that I am a parent AND teen coach (prior to this I only offered parent programs)! I am so excited about this recent development and I'm looking forward to the adventure of answering my life calling and fulfilling my purpose. I must admit that right now it does feel bigger than me. But, it also feels sooooo right!
Part of how I am honoring this transition is to open up the focus of my photage to both parents and teens. I'm not sure exactly how this will evolve, but I'm looking forward to finding out! One change I have already made is that my "ParenTake" is now the "ParenTeen Challenge" as it is for both parents and teens. Back at the beginning of October I began double publishing my photage here on flickr and on a new blog I created called ParenTeen, which is all about helping parents and teens connect. What important fun to have! I'm already working on additional projects that will involve both parents and teens and I look forward to sharing more with you as it unfolds.

The Life Coaching Wheel comes with different terms but the use is the same- it's a type of 'assessment' tool that a client fills out at intake. The client will assess each area of their life on a scale of one to ten or fill in the pie pieces. The higher the number and the more each pie piece is filled in (colored), the more satisfaction in each area. The client can decide which areas they want to work on improving and work with the coach to create goals to improve their life. I am a cross-cultural/expat life coach I am ready to help you!

Photage 146: It's normal for teens and parents to have different values because they are in two different stages of life. If you stopped two random people on the street - one a teen and one an adult - would you expect them to have the same preferences?
One common difference is that parents tend to value family first; whereas, teens tend to value friends first. Both of these aspects of our lives are important and I'm curious. Parents, are you nurturing your friendships? And teens, are you nurturing your family relationships?

Teens, give a little more to family. Parents, give a little more to your social lives outside of family. I'm not asking for huge shifts and changes. I'm asking for a little change, consistently over time. So what are you willing to commit to?

Photage 143: The pressure to be your best is different than being your best. The pressure sends the message, "You're not good enough and you have to be different and better." Whereas, being your best says, "I'm giving my all and that's good enough!"
The real kicker here is that the pressure actually stops you from being your best! It zaps the motivation, drains the energy, and makes you want to throw in the towel. I mean, why even try if it's never good enough?!
On the other hand, when you allow yourself to be the best you can be, you also give yourself permission to grow. You feel good about where you are and you have the energy to look for opportunities to grow. You aren't judging yourself and it's okay to be you!

Pay attention to when you are pressuring yourself to be the best versus when you are doing your best. If you need it, ask for support and be willing to receive it. People truly love to lend a helping hand!

This image is the record of a conversation I facilitated with a client about her career, relationship, and self enrichment activities. She realized she enjoyed working outside an office setting, tapped into her desire to spend more time in outdoors activities, and reflected on what worked and what didn't in past relationships. We ended by figuring out her next steps in all three areas. She left with a determined step carrying the drawing rolled up under her arm.
Photage 150: Guess what? I'm taking a break! I am so passionate about what I do that I rarely ever give myself the gift of time off. Even when I go on vacation I usually take work with me! But, today I am wrapping up what I need to and then I'm letting go of work until January 2, 2008. Whew! This is such a challenge for me.
And a relief too. I'm looking forward to focusing on my family, my home, and simply being together. I know I need this break and I am simply going to trust that through this relaxation I am rejuvenating my body, heart, mind, and soul for a fabulous new year of prosperity and abundance!
When was the last time you gave yourself the gift of time off without any pressure to do or be anything more than you already are?!
Photage 116: Saying "I love you" to your teen is crucial. When you express your love and appreciation it sets the tone for a loving relationship. It also boosts your teen's self esteem and self acceptance. When teens feel safe in the love of their parents, then they are free to take the healthy and responsible risks that lead to successful and joyful adult lives.

How often do you say "I love you" to your teen? Observe your relationship for a few days, then decide if it is too much, too little, or just enough. And then decide what you are willing to commit to going forward.
