The former Carnegie Public Library at William Avenue and Dagmar Street on the northerly fringe of Winnipeg's central business district. Until the 1970s this was the main branch of the Winnipeg library system. Since that time it has been home to the City of Winnipeg Archives. The building contains references to the charitable educational purposes of the Carnegie benefaction including the motto "Free To All" as seen here. The shields on either side of that motto read "History and Literature" and "Arts and Science".

This is the original lobby of the Dooley Library, now the Dooley Wing of the 1972 Richmond Public Library. In order to show as much of the lobby as possible I have not tried to correct the wide angle lens distortion. The original library entrance is shown at center bottom. It is now an emergency exit.
This is our new couch for the library. It's a Victorian era antique that I purchased from a gentleman in the twin cities along with a (sort of) matching chair. The couch has been refinished relatively recently, but the chair has not. Both have the clawed feet and the carved lions head details.
The oldest of the three United States Library of Congress buildings, the Thomas Jefferson Building was built in 1890-97. It is known for its elaborately decorated facade and interior, designed by John L. Smithmeyer who was replaced by his assistant, Paul J. Pelz, who was succeeded by Edward Pearce Casey.[1] More than forty American painters and sculptors produced commissioned works of art.

The library in Canterbury cathedral. Open today as part of the heritage open house weekend. Unfortunately, no photography allowed inside (but I did buy their postcard) - shame, as there were lots of interesting things to see, including an almost complete parish library, old writing desks and the victorian iron roof trusses cast wonderful shadow patterns on the walls. The talk was fascinating and there were lots of books from the collection laid out.
Summer is here and that means tons of free fun programs at the library! They kicked things off on Saturday with a program Arts Alive : Insect Invasion!
The Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Library is a free community library, dedicated in June 1966, in memory of the sister of Senator JR Grundy. This is a full service library located on the banks of the Delaware River, in Bristol, Pennsylvania.
Yes, I have a library card....and even a second, small card that fits on my car-keys ring.

Thompson Library had been closed for the last couple years for renovations while I had been visiting my daughter and her fiance in Columbus. It was reopened this past year and we got to visit it. Lovely and amazing to say the least!! I did not get to use it over a couple of days so I have no idea if it is functional or not. But those stacks! Oh my! Please UIUC take a look and do *something*!
