Probably the last example of the brand new Matchbox 1994 Lexus LS 400 i'll pick up, hopefully a new recolour will appear later on this year! One of several found at Tesco. Mint and boxed.
Matchbox 1994 Lexus LS 400 from 2022 Case B which after a hiatus of over a month is now flowing again into many Tesco stores. Cheap looking grey plastic does slightly undermine a potentially great casting but thankfully the detailing is spot on, particularly at the rear, and its metallic white gold colour is very accurate for its era. Mint and boxed.
Despite my reservations regarding Matchbox starting to use these multi-spoke wheels on this casting rather than the usual chrome disc variety theres no denying their 1994 Lexus LS 400 is a rather accomplished model for its low price point. Its far from perfect of course but for less than the price of a tube of Pringles you can't expect collector grade quality or features.
One of several found recently at The Entertainer as part of a large 2025 Case K haul.

Brand new 2025 Case K recolour of the Matchbox 1994 Lexus LS 400 which has been appearing in various UK retailers over the last couple of weeks. Looking particularly elegant in dark metallic green with a grey lower half which still has that flaw in its back bumper which its had since its debut, it remains a highly sought after casting.

The Matchbox 1994 Lexus LS 400 caused a bit of a stir when it first appeared a few years back and largely well liked by collectors except for its cheapo dull grey plastic lower half.
This new recolour has gone the other way by giving it a full on maroon make-over making it look like some kind of 1980's Yank Tank! I do love this casting of course with its great front and rear detailing but this looks more Buick than Lexus! ;-p

Alfa's spunky revival of the famous GTV range, sharing many similarities to the comparable FIAT Coupe.
Yet another 2023 Case G Matchbox 1994 Lexus LS400 found recently in a French Action store though all mine seem to be suffering from a poor fitment of its plastic lower half! Chosen to be given the 70th anniversary colour scheme which does look a trifle tacky for a high end executive saloon though as always it pays to remember these are designed to be cheap toy cars for young children.

Matchbox 1994 Lexus LS 400, one of several found at Tesco over the last few months, some like this i've managed to "skilfully" hide its cheapo grey plastic lower half. Mint and boxed.
Yes, yet another new Matchbox 1994 Lexus LS 400 added to the collection on account of fresh stocks appearing at Tesco after a hiatus of at least a month! Mint and boxed.
Despite there being a chronic lack of new stock of any Matchbox at Tesco by some miracle my local store is now on its third delivery of 2022 Case B singles. This was from the second delivery and although I left much of it behind I couldn't help getting another one of their brand new 1994 Lexus LS 400 castings whilst its hype is still high.
Its cheapo grey plastic lower half is a touch disappointing but at just 1.25 each its never going to worry Tomica. Mint and boxed.
I'm rather quickly now on 17 examples of the new Matchbox 1994 Lexus LS 400 though I suspect there won't be anymore until its future recolour. The ones i've bought over the last few months have some distinctly different production codes which also means that the strange flaw in its rear side bumper which can be clearly seen in this picture still hasn't been rectified by Matchbox! Part of 2022 Case B found in Tesco. Mint and boxed.
The premier model from Toyota's luxury motor arm. The LS400 became one of Japan's, and indeed Europe's, most popular selling executive cars.

The second generation Lexus LS400 (also called Lexus Celsior in Japan) was unveiled at a special gala ceremony at the San Francisco Opera House. Powered by an updated 4.0-liter 1UZ-FE V8 engine, producing 260bhp. 95kg lighter with a slightly improved fuel economy over the outgoing model with 90% of the interior redesigned, with increased sound insulation, a strengthened body structure, suspension updates, and improved brakes.
Following the enthusiastic reception of the first generation car, chief engineer Kazuo Okamoto' first goal was to replicate the attributes of the older car in his new design. Externally, the most significant change was an increase in wheelbase length by 1.4 inches resulting in more interior space and an additional 2.6 inches of rear leg room, however, as the overall length remained the same with a reduction in the boot capacity The more aerodynamic body (Cd 0.28) retained the general profile and contours of the original LS 400, and was the work of the Calty Design Research centre in the USA
The LS400 facelift was launched in September 1997, mechanical changes included a five-speed automatic transmission, increased engine output to 216 kW (290 hp), with variable valve timing (VVT-i), and increased torque, improving both acceleration and fuel economy. The suspension and steering also received minor tweaks to improve feel and handling. The exterior sported a new front fascia, side mirrors, and updated wheels. The interior upgrades included a new computer, retractable rear headrests, reading lamps, and ultraviolet-tinted glass

Brand new 2024 Case K recolour of the Matchbox 1994 Lexus LS 400 which I only managed to find a couple of whilst out in France yet came home with scores of Harry Potter Ford Anglias. Go figure!
A big improvement over its previous silver recolour which ended up being a big peg warmer here in the UK, a fate unlikely to have affected this metallic black release had it actually been available here! Its one Dollar price point in the US ensures the use cheap grey plastic for its bottom section but everything else is on point detail and finish wise.

Brand new Matchbox 1994 Lexus LS 400, part of the very latest 2022 Case B now appearing at Tesco. Still predictably very hyped and only luck meant I was able to find a full case of them. Not quite as good as it could have been with its desperately cheap looking grey plastic but proportions and detailing are very good for a budget toy car. Mint and boxed.
we bought this stupid car
and have spent 3 thousand bucks on it so far
and now it's shaking when i drive it,
and the mechanic said its fine,
but it feels like its going to exploode, it like jerks super hard at low speeds.
FML we have no money
today is my birthday
everything went wrong
but i do have family and friends that love me
nothing goes right for me, but i need to start thinking positive
but for right now,
i hate everything ! (:
I customized this LEXUS LS400 for some pals who are doing the ScumRun Rally which by my understanding is like the GumBall Rally but your car has to have cost less than £500. Prettiest car on a tow truck 2009.
The Zylmex Toyota Celsior lived on to be a Motormax product though the Toyota badge seems to have been removed from the front grille possibly due to licensing issues. Always a fairly plain and nondescript casting i have only ever seen them in white! Part of a huge 50 vehicle set bought from Woolworths. Mint and boxed.
Although a fairly basic casting, at the time this was probably one of very few little 1/64 models of the newly introduced Lexus marque available though technically it was actually based on the Japanese market Toyota Celsior. Look closely at the front grille and its a Toyota badge and not Lexus you'll notice. Made by Zylmex at the time though did survive into the Motormax era. Mint and boxed.
Replaced the 21 year old suspension system with new Eibach springs and struts, lowering the car by an inch all around. She handles like a Lexus again, not an old Buick.
Now that flickr has given me a terabyte, I can upload pointless non-lego pics like everyone seems to be doing.
The first Japanese car to make the established premium car makers sit up and notice and one which was particularly successful in the North American market, though never particularly popular here in the UK where badge snobbery still reigns supreme. The original Lexus LS 400 did appear in 1/64 at the time though it took Matchbox until a few years ago to bring one out in their range.
Proving very popular with many collectors and for good reason even if its cheapo grey plastic lower body did jar some what. Recoloured for this years 2025 Case K in a gloriously classy metallic dark green finish with its usual high levels of on point front and rear tampo detailing though I personally believe they should have used chrome disc wheels which suits the casting better.

Lexus LS 400, the original Japanese 'near-luxury' sedan. With a butter smooth V8, leather, power everything and more. Most of these cars run forever, but when the finally are sold for salvage they can end up at Pull-A-Part. Save huge money over the price of Lexus OEM parts!
