94-MH-4778 - 1994 Lexus LS400.
What would've once been an extremely luxurious saloon is now an extremely luxurious piece of street furniture. Its been in current ownership since 2008 and has been without NCT since 2005 and tax since 2007.
I've been having thoughts about early LS400s recently, spurred-on by seeing how many are being banger raced at the moment. I think they'll become as had-to-find as Toyota Crowns and Datsun/Nissan Cedrics are now. Also they represent an interesting step in the development of Japanese cars.
Found this one locally, I think I'm going to have to leave a note or politely knock on the door about it. I like the colour scheme, it's a pre-facelift model which I'd much prefer, is UK spec for ease of parts/insurance, and the house suggests caring ownership.
Latest recolour of the Matchbox 1994 Lexus LS400 which has been chosen to represent the brands 70th Anniversary which explains its non stock bright orange accents. A very capable casting if you don't mind the obvious Mattel cost cutting such as its rather cheapo grey plastic lower half!
One of several found recently in a French Action store as part of 2023 Case G.

I will of course stop buying these at some point soon but i'm still going with the hype this brand new casting is still garnering. Its subject choice is probably more popular than the models overall execution which isn't helped by acres of grey plastic. One of several found at Tesco as part of 2022 Case B. Mint and boxed.
New 2022 Case B debut release and probably the most hyped casting out of this assortment. Although I always felt the real Lexus LS 400 was too bland and anonymous looking to be taken seriously its build quality and luxury features certainly shook up the establishment. A big hit in the States and possibly explains why we now have one in the Matchbox line up. Mint and boxed.
Almost certainly the most eagerly awaited new release of the Matchbox 2022 Case B assortment is its 1994 Lexus LS 400. As long as you remember this has been designed to be a one Dollar toy then you won't be disappointed. Its quite small in size, its unpainted grey plastic is a touch questionable though I understand why they've done it but again its another Matchbox winner.
Its subject choice is at the heart of why it will be a success with collectors who probably remember the real car first time around. It didn't sell anywhere near the numbers it did in the States but here in the UK its reputation for rock solid build and world beating comfort and equipment didn't go unnoticed. Mint and boxed.
May 1990.
The Lexus marque was introduced into the UK market in June 1990.
One of the very first Lexus LS400 cars imported into the UK, it was first registered on 25/04/1990, and before the official launch of the model.
It was on loan to me from Lexus UK for a week, for evaluation.
The all-alloy, 90° V8 petrol engine had a capacity of 3,968 cc (242.1 cu. in.) and produced 194 kW (260 hp) & 441 N⋅m (325 lb⋅ft). It was fitted with a four-speed automatic transmission.
It was very rapid, for the day, and a refined luxury saloon.

Has to be a very late registered LS 400 XF10, since its successor debuted in November 1994.
The Matchbox 1994 Lexus LS 400 finally arrives after being delayed by a couple of batches. Not as nice as the hype suggests with the usual modern MBX compromises but definitely worth grabbing. One of several found at Tesco recently as part of 2022 Case B. Mint and boxed.
Good to catch up with this one again, especially as it's looking a bit smarter and cleaner than before (and certainly more so than mine!). I think I prefer my 18" wheels though.
I certainly got lucky finding so many of these new Matchbox Lexus LS 400 castings in two visits to Tesco earlier this month when I unexpectedly stumbled upon the brand new 2022 Case B. Not quite good enough to live up to its hype but nonetheless welcome new addition to the line up. Mint and boxed.
Matchbox have only recently got around to giving their much vaunted 1994 Lexus LS 400 a recolour, choosing to clothe it in this years 70th Anniversary colours. Not as bad as it sounds as using metallic silver helps tone down the cheapo grey plastic used for the lower half which looked more obvious on its debut release.
A very important car for the fledgling Lexus division which sold very well in the US at the time and well replicated here considering its budget price.

Being very early to the Matchbox Case B party enabled me to find several of the new 1994 Lexus LS 400 castings. So much so that I didn't feel bad about giving this example the chrome Molotow treatment just for a bit of fun. Anything to hide all that cheap looking grey plastic! ;-p

Rather ill fitting lower body plastic seem to affect most of the Matchbox 1994 Lexus LS400 I picked up recently in France. I don't remember such issues on its debut release but it does give off the impression of being made by an obscure cheapo Chinese manufacturer!
Its new recolour proudly wears the 70th Anniversary logo and corporate colours of metallic silver and orange as well as the usual front and rear tampo detailing.

There's something I like in the way the bottom of the window on the rear door is so flat and flows into the boot and rear quarter.
The debut year for Toyota's premium division, the 1990 LS400 sedan was introduced in late 1989 along with the smaller ES250.
The LS400 V8 sedan competed with the new Infiniti Q45, along with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7-Series, with a $35,000 retail price, the lowest price among import V8 sedans.

Matchbox 1994 Lexus LS 400, one of very many found in Tesco over the last few months and strangely easy to find considering the hype this casting has generated. Mint and boxed.

Matchbox 1994 Lexus LS 400, brand new casting for 2022 Case B now appearing at Tesco. Yes there are some elements which disappoint such as its cheapo grey plastic but overall Matchbox should be pleased with what they've created for a toy car designed to be still sold at the one Dollar price point in the USA. Mint and boxed.
