In the early 1800s, the original Galt House was a residence owned by Dr. W.C. Galt. In 1835, a 60-room hotel was opened as the Galt House Hotel across the street from the residence at the northeast corner of First and Main.
In 1865, the hotel was destroyed by fire; but within weeks, noted architect R. Whitestone began plans for construction a block away from the original site. The new Galt House Hotel opened in 1869 and operated until 1919. It was razed in 1921.
Over half of a century later, in 1972, Galt House Hotel was reestablished by developer Al J. Schneider as part of Louisville's Riverfront Urban Renewal Project. Carpenter by trade, he built the 25 stories high RIVUE Tower, which features beautiful handcrafted woodworking, on the banks of the Ohio River. Galt House Hotel continued to expand with the creation of the SUITE Tower in 1984. Galt House Hotel remains Louisville’s only waterfront hotel.
Galt House Hotel Trivia

Cheltenham Wetlands Park was once part of the U.S. Naval Radio Station, Cheltenham, Maryland. It was commissioned in 1939.
“The original antenna fields, comprising creosoted wood telephone poles and metal antenna towers, were located in the acreage surrounding the buildings. All metal antenna poles have been removed from the installation. Some abandoned creosoted wood poles remain in the wooded and swampy sections of the installation.
Established as a radio receiving station before World War II, the installation's mission evolved to administration during the Cold War era.”
Today's court was fascinating (I was there on a fictitious charge). Court consisted almost entirely of disabled individuals, minorities and seniors. Apparently they're the easiest to catch and the police/sheriff's officers don't have to run/drive too far to snag one. It is indeed sad that municipalities prey on these individuals in order to justify their own existence. It was interesting to watch the two individuals in the forefront (my guess is they are husband and wife) as they were touchy-feely and there was definitely a courtroom courship in play - they were all over each other. She kept primping her hair while he was rubbing her forearm & playing footsies. it was a hoot as neither realized we all realized what a farce this courtroom was. They appeared to be attorneys. They did not appear to notice that many individuals in the courtroom were filming/photographing them.
The flourescent lighting in this courtroom gave me a massive headache (metal in my brain, remember?).
Typha /ˈtaɪfə/ is a genus of about 30 species of monocotyledonous flowering plants in the family Typhaceae. These plants have many common names, in British English as bulrush, or reedmace,[2] in American English as cattail,[3] punks, or corn dog grass, in Australia as cumbungi or bulrush, in Canada as bulrush or cattail, and in New Zealand as raupō. Other taxa of plants may be known as bulrush, including some sedges in Scirpus and related genera.
The genus is largely distributed in the Northern Hemisphere, where it is found in a variety of wetland habitats.
The rhizomes are edible. Evidence of preserved starch grains on grinding stones suggests they were already eaten in Europe 30,000 years ago.[4]
