There are two important lessons to be learned from this photo taken during the 2017 Epcot Festival of the Arts:
1. Always carry a pocket watch so you'll know if you are late for a very important date. (Especially of you are a forgetful white rabbit.)
2. Always pay attention to the background when taking a photo. It's easy to get lost in the subject matter and forget about distracting elements other places in the scene.

The girls have continued taking swim lessons at Swim West. Things are going well and they both have progressed to the next level. Amy and I really like the teachers there and the class size. If you are looking for a place to go for swim lessons check them out.
...when going out in minus 18 to explore your photographic talents... goretex gloves are advisable, snowboard trousers are advisable (not like me kneeling in snow shooting some macro stuff in my jeans) and never ever put mascara on. Because it is cold and cold makes you cry. Not pretty.

Happy Saturday everyone! This is a panorama of Thatchtop Peak across the frozen Loch in Rocky Mountain National Park. I took this shot in the brief period of opportunity I was afforded between past and future events, namely, a near death experience of falling in the ice and our hasty retreat down the mountain. If you recall my post the other day Steve and I were sitting on this rock outcrop for about an hour. The wind was whipping pretty good and we bore the brunt of it. It became clear that we weren't going to last very long and so we decided to find a place a bit more protected from it. The west end of the lake(right side of the shot) seemed to be the logical place so we set out. We tried walking along the path, but the snow drifts proved too difficult, so decided that the ice seemed safe enough as we'd been traipsing around on it in the shallows for most of the morning thus far. We pretty much stuck to the edge, in case of mishap. (If you look closely in the shot you can see one of our tracks either coming or going across the lake from end to end). Just as we got to the edge of the tree line on the right side of the photo Steve noticed some water between us and the edge. As we pondered how this was possible he began to tip over. To me it looked like a tree falling in the forest. I thought it weird he would just lose his balance like that, especially with no apparent effort to correct it. He then explained in a somewhat urgent manner that he had gone through the ice and his left side was actually in the water. Being fast on the take (not!) I jumped onto the nearest rock only to find out that I too was about to break through as my boot was submerged. Fortunately for me, only up to the laces. Steve got up and onto the rocks, but not before his entire left side and both feet were submerged in the water. We scrambled back to this spot which was somewhat buffeted from the wind and he began to wring out. I felt somewhat helpless at this point, especially with what he was going through, but he kept assuring me that there was nothing I could do to help him. He was going to rid himself as much as he could of the wet things and then we would run down to the warmth and safety of the car. As I began to put things away I took a quick moment to shoot this scene, mostly so that Steve and I would always have a fond memory of what happened. A reminder if you will of the dangers of the places we go and to never underestimate the risks we take. Needlesss to say we made it down a brisk, heat generating pace, and were sipping our coffee's in the warmth of The Egg and I a short time later.
