Lesson 4, Part 1. Copied drawings from Drawing Professionally course. All drawings drawn entirely freehand. Took a few hours to complete.
Winter into Spring. Overprinting backgrounds: music and handwriting printed over designs. Making a paper frame. Cheated on the gluebook, though, and enhanced some colors with colored pencils. Probably still need to anchor the girl to one of the edges of the paper; her side could use a small horizontal accent in the upper right, I think. Thanks for the beautiful calendar girls, Mary!

Refusing to acknowledge you'd been hurt

That you steal from me the sorrow that I've earned
Shall we call this a lesson learned?
Not only was the song my inspiration to this photo, but it was a long anticipated relief that I never knew if I was going to experience. Now looking at this image I have that relief.
This image puts together the feeling of such a light subject, weighing so heavy on my shoulders.
Every year since we have moved to San Marcos, Hendrix has done Swim Lessons. The Aquatics program is great, and with all the time we spend at the beach and in the pool, I want my kiddo to be a strong swimmer.
Today I took my son for a lesson. He is not as bad a driver as this photo would suggest! Fisheye 10.5mm again, propped up on the dashboard on self timer.

The camp I help teach with LEGO Master Mel Brown is more than about putting bricks together. We’re here to serve underprivileged children who don’t have access to a ton of bricks. With just 1 or 2 small boxes of bricks we’ve been able to demonstrate endless possibilities. We teach them how different parts have different functions, but we go further to teach life skills, like getting organized, thinking outside the box, perseverance, and other tips along the way.
The topic for this week’s lesson was landscaping. The kids learned about symmetry vs asymmetry, geometric vs organic shapes, foreground and background, composition, and some fundamental LEGO layering and shaping. The kids did sooo great to keep up with an abundance of information and building in a 1 hr timeframe! Lots of smiles and thumbs up. Really makes my week.

The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp by Rembrandt van Rijn, 1632.
Dr. Nicolaes Tulp is pictured explaining the musculature of the arm to medical professionals. The corpse is that of the criminal Aris Kindt, strangled earlier that day for armed robbery. Some of the spectators are various doctors who paid commissions to be included in the painting. The event can be dated to January 16, 1632: the Amsterdam Guild of Surgeons, of which Tulp was official City Anatomist, permitted only one public dissection a year, and the body would have to be that of an executed criminal.
Anatomy lessons were a social event in the 17th century, taking place in lecture rooms that were actual theatres, with students, colleagues and the general public being permitted to attend on payment of an entrance fee. The spectators are appropriately dressed for a solemn social occasion. It is thought that, with the exception of the figures to the rear and left, these people were added to the picture later.
One person is missing: the Preparator, whose task it was to prepare the body for the lesson. In the 17th century an important scientist such as Dr. Tulp would not be involved in menial and bloody work like dissection, and such tasks would be left to others. It is for this reason that the picture shows no cutting instruments. Instead we see in the lower right corner an enormous open textbook on anatomy. - enWikipedia

Elementary school is tough... so much to remember... it's fun when you have a good memory, but for some kids, it feels like a never ending stairway... just like the Penrose stairs.
