Tiny Mycena mushrooms were carpeting a log in our neighborhood park. These were growing on a more or less vertical surface, so I made a z-stack of six exposures @ f10 to get all of the caps in focus. Canon 7D, 100mm macro. Actual cap diameter 3-5 mm.
Schoodic Peninsula - the less visited but just as beautiful and breathtaking as the main section of Acadia National Park in Maine.

SPC #10 - Hats
We all wear many hats, often more than one at a time. Some we wear for life, some we only think we will.
I struggled with myself as to whether or not I was even going to post this. But given the number of times the members of this group have put themselves out there and shown their vulnerabilities, I figured I could do the same, so I thank you all for that.

I should mention, it's been three years now, and I've been back to good for about half that. Although I've always wanted to do something photographic to represent it, I almost did it for the Sins challenge but couldn't come up with anything that I really liked...I'm pretty happy with this one though.

Pay Less Drug Stores of California opened their 33rd drugstore in Diamond Bar on May 28, 1971. Located at 300 S Diamond Bar Blvd, this Pay Less featured 52,000 square feet. CVS has done a nice job of maintaining almost all of the building's original integrity.

This is a less than exciting photo of a nice combo* on QRNational intermodal freighter 7MB7, departing Tottenham in Melbourne. Train consisted of LDP007, LDP001 and 42202.
While it WAS cloudy at the time, the lighting wasn't that bad, infact it had lightened considerably since the last train had passed through (which had done so in light rain with very little light).
Normally none of these things pose a problem to myself, reasonably competent in camera operation and the correct settings to use. It should be noted the following:
1. We were not expecting this train to arrive, there was supposed to be a (far less interesting) train ahead of this one. Thus, we were "caught off guard" in this case.
2. We were planning a completely different location for this train, to better facilitate the chase. Upon changing location, the checking and changing of camera settings to calibrate for the new location would be mandatory.
3. I still had the camera settings set on "nice dark rain weather", rather than "sun trying to poke through the clouds" weather.
Result: A nice long stream of photos, all overexposed to buggery.
Thank god for RAW. Didn't make the shot a winner, but I have a record shot at least.
*While double LDP Class are "the norm", it is still nice to see one of the older Interail locomotives in the consist, as the CLP, CLF, 422, 421 and X Class locomotives are normally lacking on BM/MB services these days.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I had more or less decided that I was switching from expensive DSLRs to using the Sony NEX-7 [and whatever replaced it] as the camera that I would use for street photography. I was hoping to upgrade from the NEX-7 to the A7R but while I might be able to afford the body this side of Christmas there is no way that I could afford a set of suitable lenses within a reasonable time period.
At the end of May I got the opportunity to purchase a Sigma DP3 Merrill at €399.00 including delivery to Dublin so based on a number of reviews I decided to take a gamble and purchase one. I had to wait almost two months and I was about to cancel the order but it arrived a few days ago and I got a chance to test it today.
There is no doubting the fact that the DP3 Merrill is very different to anything that I have used to date [including the original DP1 or DP2] and while I am glad that I got it there are many issues. The main problem is battery life, there is no way that 45 photographs per charge is acceptable. The second problem is that Adobe Lightroom does not recognise the output from the DP3 Merrill [I only shoot in RAW] so one must use the software that is supplied by Sigma. Sigma Photo Pro is not as bad as some may have you believe but in my case I am not at all keen to add another stage to the process.
The third problem is that I am really limited to shooting at ISO100 so it is a waste of time shooting in poor light and there is plenty of that here in Dublin.
The Sigma DP3 uses an excellent 50mm f/2.8 prime lens which is the equivalent of a 75mm optic on a 35mm camera. The lens design features ten elements in eight groups, and there's a seven-bladed aperture diaphragm. Focusing is possible to as close as 8.9 inches (22.6cm), and maximum magnification is 1:3 (0.33x). There's no image stabilisation which may make the camera less suitable for street photography.
less over exposed. I continued to shoot him as he walked away so that eventually his whole body was in the frame. But these pictures were less successful, perhaps because I lost the detail of what he was carrying. comments/critique welcome.

Location: The ranch is located along the Canadian River in the western Texas Panhandle.
Acres: 71,059 Acres, more or less
Terrain: Approximately 29 miles of the Canadian River runs through the middle of this scenic ranch. The topography varies from rolling uplands to elevated mesa points descending to wide river bottom country. This is truly a beautiful ranching property.
Water: The ranch is exceptionally well watered by the Canadian River, numerous creeks and springs, water wells and earthen ponds.
Improvements: The Canadian River Cattle Company Ranch is considered to be exceptionally well improved. The main lodge has over 7,000 square feet and features 6 bedrooms, 6 and 1/2 baths, and a rustic trophy/game room. Other improvements include pilot's quarters, hand houses, a manager's house, barns, pens, etc. All improvements are very well maintained.
Access: Access is provided by a graded road to the southeast corner of the property. There is no public access through the ranch, and the front gate can be locked to assure privacy. For the convenience of the owner, a 4,500' paved landing strip and airplane hanger are located adjacent to the main lodge.
Hunting/Recreation: The Canadian River Cattle Company offers some of the best hunting to be found in this area of Texas. Recently, two state record mule deer have been harvested, and numerous other trophy quality mule deer were taken from this ranch, but not entered in the Texas Big Game Awards Contest. The ranch also offers quality whitetail deer, antelope, turkey, quail and waterfowl.
In recent years, elk, lion, and bear have also been sighted on the ranch. Without question, this game is following the Canadian River Corridor, which is a major travel route for wildlife.
Price: $475.00 per acre
Remarks: The seller will convey all of his mineral and water right interest. This is one of the most productive, scenic, large blocks of real estate to come on the market in recent years. The ranch has many different historical points of interest, and in an effort to preserve the size, open space, wildlife, and history of this outstanding ranch, the owner placed a conservation easement on the majority of this property. This carefully planned easement will secure the unique features of this ranch for generations to come.
