I first heard about this legendary lens in 2006, just as I was really getting serious doing photography. I was 20 and it was way out of my price range, and why would anyone want an old manual focus lens? The allure of this special lens and the way it renders the light the passes through it is just something special. I’ve kept my eye on the pricing of this lens since then. I’ve read countless blogs about how it is so special...I just couldn’t ever convince myself to pull the trigger and buy one.
Then one day this July I was reading a blog post about this lens, one I’d read 100 times before and I thought I’d check the prices. On eBay they were all going for what I was expecting and I thought to myself I’d check KEH Camera a very reputable used gear seller. To my surprise, they had one in stock. It was about ¼ less than what they were going for on eBay and KEH rated this one as “bargain” quality.
If you’ve ever bought from KEH you’ll know that their ratings are VERY generous. I thought I’d take the chance and if it was in poorer condition I’d send it back with their generous return policy. The lens arrived, glass in perfect condition, and a single scrape on the metal lens barrel, other than that it was in perfect condition.
So I kept it, and have just fallen in love with this lens. I’m so glad it lived up to all the hype and I love the images I’ve taken with it so far. I look forward to the ones I haven’t taken yet. This is one of those lenses I’ll never sell or part with.
reinhold messner is acclaimed as one of the greatest mountaineers of all time. he was the first person to climb all 14 8,000-meter peaks - the tallest mountains in the world - and one of the first to climb mount everest without any supplemental oxygen.
i have read all his books, watched all his movies, and i was very, very happy and thankful seeing and listening to him twice today at frankfurt bookfair.
St Monans is a village and parish in the East Neuk of Fife and is named after the legendary Saint Monan. Situated approximately 3 miles west of Anstruther, the small community, whose inhabitants used to make their living mainly from fishing, is now a tourist destination situated on the Fife Coastal Path. The former burgh rests on a hill overlooking the Firth of Forth, with views to North Berwick, the Bass Rock and the Isle of May. St Monans contains many historical buildings, including the now defunct windmill (which can be visited) that once powered a salt panning industry, and a 14th-century church that sits on the rocks above the water on the western side. Approximately 1⁄2 mile west of St Monans are the remains of Newark Castle, a 16th-century manor that has since fallen to ruin through cliff erosion and disrepair. In 2002, with the permission of Historic Scotland, an unsuccessful attempt to restore the castle was made. [Wikipedia]
I'd wanted to photograph these guys, and their fishing birds for years. We shot with them at sunset and the following sunrise. At 5am I was knee deep in the Li river, surrounded by beautifully magical countryside. It was a surreal, and memorable experience.

If you are going to Rosslyn Chapel I hope that you have a great visit and if you have a chance do walk in the Roslin Glen. The Castle and the Chapel retain the older name of Rosslyn and the contemporary village has the newer name of Roslin.
If you are on the Western Bank of The North Esk river you can visit The Wallace Cave. There are several Wallace Caves in Scotland. There is only one Wallace Cave in Roslin Glen. There are also caves under Hawthronden Castle.
There is a legend of a Black Hen, don’t say Pullet, that is noted as confusing treasure seekers and grail hunters by digging holes to false terrain the site and to fill in half dug holes for when seekers return to complete their excavations and further still through special skill to carefully indicate the better and best grounds to explore through careful talon and beak soil manipulation. There are further tails of either this Black Hen, or of another such similar still don’t say Pullet, Black Hen, maybe there is just the one, or possibly there are a pair of magical soil shrouders at work? The other hen story relates to a treasure hidden under a stair. The exact stair can be correctly deduced in a manner not fully revealed within the story. Any stair testing and excavating can and will lead to the Black Hen II, this time the truth will not out*, moving the treasure when the excavators are in the right area and also the hen will bamboozle the grail hunters with special Holy Hen Acts that will confuse, strain, enrage and bring chaos to order and the ‘BH II’ wonder guard will clear up after the said chaos and restore all to proper order til the right, maybe even righteous, approach of the mythic legendary treasure grail hunter seekers who are destined to step on the right step at the right time in the right manner possibly with the left foot.
Please only read good humour and faithful following in my words above. I have followed signs to Rosslyn Chapel and parked when there were just a few spaces next to the old barn and byre. I have wandered in the beauty of the landscape and listened to the stories and here share some quickly to say that this is a place of beauty and of mystery, both of folly and of faith with a river bend bringing out rock inscribed from thousands of years ago to natural and extended caves, with castles and chapels, formerly and currently hosting services and battles til a part of the past seems to have been deeply woven here such that we choose to look at it again and again making pilgrimage and enacting rampage all engaged through marvellous mysteries and eldritch histories far beyond our fascination and into our fine fashioned fulgent fabricated fantasies.**
*Black Hen I also assured that the truth would not out, Black Hen II is not a fully fledged sequel as of course it could be one Hen, not a Pullet, successfully stealth working both grounds and stairs.
**Please do not test the Hen, or Hens, not Pullets, as you could be destroying a beautiful and historial protected place that is best left none Hen tested and none destroyed. Age, atmosphere and our antecedents have done more than enough destruction and also they had with them those that fought to give enough preservation and conservation too.

After a ten day hiatus (due to college camp, work scheduling, and life in general), I return to building the Indiana Jones vignettes! This scene (though not the first scene of the movie which shows young Indy [coming soon]) is where the hunt for the Holy Grail begins for the archaeology professor. Having learned from undercover agent Walter Donovan that his father has recently disappeared, Jones will soon be traveling to Venice where he will find the complementary half to the Grail Marker.
Not totally sure how I feel about this MOC... having not started on the young Indy scene sort of threw me off kilter when building this, but I nonetheless hope I somewhat captured some of the details of Donovan's house, including the little skyline that can be viewed through the window.
The Harry Potter collaboration builders are to be thanked for inspiring me. :D
She is a makeover!
I changed her image. The aim is "the center of attention"! Her makeup colors are very similar, but I like the soft image.

Legend has it that this truck parked in Ballarat once belonged to the Manson Family. Like other things in Ballarat, it is hard to say whether this is true or not. What is true is that the Manson Family lived for a time on a ranch tucked up in nearby Panamint mountains.
Happy Truck Thursday!

Stormy clouds over Terneuzen, hometown of Captain Van der Decken, commander of the legendary Flying Dutchman. Just another silly legend... Or is it?
Mr Splitnose is one of the biggest, distinctive and aristocratic Leopards (Panthera pardus pardus) in the Maasai Mara. He had had a busy morning, as he successfully brought down a Zebra and had been feeding on it the whole morning. Being a larger prey than they normally hunt he was unable to drag it up a tree and decided to sit out in the open and enjoy the fruits of his hard labour.
Photographed during a photography safari on an early morning game drive in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya.
Here is the vintage Lone Ranger action figure, from a company called Gabriel. I received it from the ever-generous Poe Ghostal. The figure was created as a tie-in to the early-'80s movie, The Legend of the Lone Ranger. Alas, it was no more a popular or critical success than the 2013 film.
See the first comment below for two additional portraits.

What a fabulous afternoon to hear the legendary artist Duggie Fields talk about his art as we walked around the various room settings in The Modern Institute. The exhibition recreates his personal environment and is part of this year’s Glasgow International and is definitely not to be missed.
Duggie Fields dayglo post-pop paintings are instantly recognizable and many have been featured in numerous group presentations and film screenings internationally, including, ‘Pink Floyd: Their Mortal Remains', at the V&A Museum, London in 2017.
Urquhart Castle, the iconic fortification on Lochness with origins dating right back to Pictish times when it was a high status site possibly visited by Sait Columba. He is said to have encountered Nessie here and it remains one of the most comon sites of sightings of the legendary beast to this day!
