This is a past self-portrait from my Daily Portrait Project, in which I made a non-photographic image of myself every day for three years, from 3/15/07 to 3/15/10. Soon they'll all be loaded on flickr, you can find them in this set: www.flickr.com/photos/juliakay/sets/72157619599543783/
The first year of the project is now available as a book: www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/2418516
Volumes II and III coming soon...
"Hockey Goalie Tattoo" by Patti Deters. This tattoo shows a hockey goalie in position as he prepares to block any and all pucks that might come his way during the game. This is a real tattoo and is one of the best I've seen for someone who plays a goalie in the sport of hockey. The image has a square crop and you can choose between right-handed and left-handed. Please see more images at patti-deters.pixels.com/featured/hockey-goalie-tattoo-pat....
I've decided to pick up the guitar again. This time however I've gotten a guitar that's actually made for left handed people... opposed to playing a right handed guitar with the strings reversed. It makes a WORLD of difference. This is a Taylor 3 series with a built in pickup so I can make some real noise. Wow. I had no idea a guitar could sound like this...
...a very rare shot of Molly in pants. (Although they are really the mister's polartec long undies...so I guess you could say it's a rare shot of Molly in underwear.)
I have loved this book so much that I did not completely went out from it. I'm still living in this special artistic atmosphere of Paris during the first 50 years of the 20th century.
I felt like learning how to draw. I decided to accept to be ridiculous and childish in drawing for the first time since I was about 5 years old. The mouse in the right hand, the pen in the left hand because I'm lefthanded but I know how to live in a world made for righthanded people......... YOLO !

Somewhere I can no longer put my fingers on, Clyde Semler was discussing the importance of laying in the background around the figure, and I decided to approach this portrait with that in mind... but then I never got past that part, as it seemed done.
ESP has now officially stopped all orders for one-of-a-kind ESP Standard models. If you want anything special, you now have to use their CU$TOM $HOP. I bought this model from Xtreme Lefty Guitars (www.xlguitars.com). They have a huge selection, but ESP cut off all future unique orders, so once their inventory is gone, it's GONE.

the only good thing about the exam I had today (which was sneakily disguised as a test) was the fact that at the end of it, Harry and I compared how bad a case of lefthanded exam finger we had. Mine was a more intense colour but his was more widespread.
after my exam I smashed out an assignment and cooked minestrone for the first time. I fed Cathy some in exchange for her doing my eyebrows.

This is part of my Daily Portrait Project, which can be viewed in it's entirety at studiojuliakay.com/portraitproject.
It's also part of series within the project, which I call left-hand-blind (LHB), in which I draw with my eyes closed and my non-dominant hand. I do open my eyes and use whichever hands I feel like for adding color.

3 March 2020, Harare, Zimbabwe: “Building for the future” is the motto of the Chinyika primary school. More than 2000 students get their education at the school, which is located in a rural area close to Harare. The LWF delegation visited the school, met with teachers and students, and saw two livelihoods projects supported by the Zimbabwe Council of Churches. From 29 February-4 March 2020 the LWF General Secretary and a high level delegation visited Zimbabwe, its churches and people, to show solidarity and offer encouragement. Photo: LWF/A. Danielsson

This left-handed Fender Jazzmaster was built in Japan and purchased from Hewitt's Music in Dearborn. It was the first 'serious' guitar I ever had, and still finds a way to remain my main instrument to this day. Since ~1996 or so, it's been on every recording project and live show we've done. While the factory setup wasn't bad, the overall Jazzmaster architecture was indeed difficult to live with on a daily basis. As such, I've had the help of some of the finest guitar minds I know (Bernie Hamburger, Tom Murrary) in turning this into a much more steady and dependable instrument. Via a few somewhat unconventional modifications (including the brass bar you see on the tailpiece), this is a Jazzmaster that plays like no other. Tom Murray acquired the silver bridge cap from an original '60s Jazzmaster at some point along the way, and my (now-less-punctured) left hand has been thankful ever since.
