This is a past self-portrait from my Daily Portrait Project, in which I made a non-photographic image of myself every day for three years, from 3/15/07 to 3/15/10. This series of self-portraits can be viewed in it's entirety at studiojuliakay.com/portraitproject.

This left-handed Fender Jazzmaster was built in Japan and purchased from Hewitt's Music in Dearborn. It was the first 'serious' guitar I ever had, and still finds a way to remain my main instrument to this day. Since ~1996 or so, it's been on every recording project and live show we've done. While the factory setup wasn't bad, the overall Jazzmaster architecture was indeed difficult to live with on a daily basis. As such, I've had the help of some of the finest guitar minds I know (Bernie Hamburger, Tom Murrary) in turning this into a much more steady and dependable instrument. Via a few somewhat unconventional modifications (including the brass bar you see on the tailpiece), this is a Jazzmaster that plays like no other. Tom Murray acquired the silver bridge cap from an original '60s Jazzmaster at some point along the way, and my (now-less-punctured) left hand has been thankful ever since.

Established in 1980, Southpaw Guitars is the world's largest left-handed music shop. My brother is a left and it was a life-long dream to visit this shop. I admit it was a fascinating experience to see all these pieces of art.

I'm attending a 6:30 AM class all week this week, so I'm going to bed earlier, and I have limited studio time - and focus. So instead of 'working' any of the of the larger projects I'm trying to move forward, I'm doing the thing it's easiest for me to do... la la la more self-portraits.

This are the thoughts of "some" of our fellow italian citizen during the 2006 political campaign.

Just to report, feel free to comment, of course!

Maybe this is the reason why their was the less lasting governemnt in italian history ;)

You've got to love Facebook. Would we know this is a special day for approximately 10% of the worlds population? And before Facebook, did we even care? Happy Lefthanders Day. I'm a lefty....are you? Favorite this photo if you're a lefty too.

Dont see too many of these oO

Esta es mi guitarra electroacústica.

Desenchufada, suena un poco débil. La caja de resonancia no es muy grande.

Por lo general está afinada en "DADGAD"

This is my electro-acoustic guitar.

Unplugged, it sounds a bit quiet and boxy. These qualities make it the perfect guitar for "DADGAD" tuning, though.

Bored last night, I decided to take a self portrait. Something didn't look or feel right about it... then I realized, it's just another thing that us left handed people have to deal with. Oh well... could be worse.

ADRIAN BELEW

Adrian Belew (born December 23, 1949 as Robert Steven Belew in Covington, Kentucky) is an American guitarist and vocalist (and sometimes drummer, pianist and bass player), perhaps best known for his work as a member of the progressive rock group King Crimson, which he first joined in 1981. He has also released a number of solo albums for Island Records and Atlantic Records, and has worked with many other musicians. He was nominated for a Grammy in 2005, for his single, "Beat Box Guitar", which was nominated for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. In addition, Belew is well-regarded for his contributions, particularly on guitar, to various other artists' recordings. In 1977, he performed with Frank Zappa, appearing in Zappa's 1979 concert film Baby Snakes, as well as Zappa's controversial album Sheik Yerbouti, where Belew provides the memorable and scathing impersonation of Bob Dylan on the song Flakes. In addition to playing lead guitar on David Bowie's 1979 album, Lodger, he also supported him on his Stage world tour in 1978 and the Sound + Vision world tour in 1990 as musical director, playing guitar and singing backing vocals Belew's other session credits include the 1980 album Remain in Light by the Talking Heads, Lights Out by Peter Wolf, Earth Moving by Mike Oldfield and Paul Simon's landmark 1986 album Graceland. He worked with Laurie Anderson during the mid-1980s, appearing in her concert film Home of the Brave. He also worked with the Tom Tom Club on their first album in 1981. He also contributed to a Ryuichi Sakamoto album called Lefthanded dream in 1981 'together with Robin Scott ("M"). He even appeared in a series of Japanese advertisements promoting the mechanic company Daikin in which he emulated animal noises with his electric guitar and appeared as the conductor, conducting a symphony in which all the members were himself playing guitar. Belew's vocals are known for their distinct, sometimes manic feel - his singing voice is often compared to that of Talking Heads singer David Byrne. Perhaps unsurprisingly, he played on one Talking Heads album and toured with them in 1980 before being invited to join King Crimson.

Playing celtic music, with my Yamaha DADGAD guitar. Here I'm basically droning the sixth and fourfth strings (both tuned to D) while I play melodies on the upper strings.

This is my only true and authentic left-handed guitar. Oh, wait, I also have 2 left-handed electrics, but it's been years since I played them.

I was inspired by this and this very cool pictures.

Something's wrong with this object. Other than a square crop, the picture is honest.

ESP has now officially stopped all orders for one-of-a-kind ESP Standard models. If you want anything special, you now have to use their CU$TOM $HOP. I bought this model from Xtreme Lefty Guitars (www.xlguitars.com). They have a huge selection, but ESP cut off all future unique orders, so once their inventory is gone, it's GONE.

I've decided to pick up the guitar again. This time however I've gotten a guitar that's actually made for left handed people... opposed to playing a right handed guitar with the strings reversed. It makes a WORLD of difference. This is a Taylor 3 series with a built in pickup so I can make some real noise. Wow. I had no idea a guitar could sound like this...
