Another School Photo. Miss Cochrane's Class, 1961 I think.
I have been sitting here looking at this picture and trying to remember their names - with limited success, but here goes:
Back Row: ? - ? - ? - Brian Faulkner - Peter Smith? - Richard Baines - ? - Tony Hourihane - ? - ?.
Middle Row: ME - ? - Norma Rafferty - ? - ? - ? - ? - ? - ? - Richard Betts:
Front Row seated: ? - ? - ? - ? - ? - Isobel Moore - ? - ? - June Blockwell - ? - Rosemary or Rowena Bazelle - Jane Williams.
Seated Floor: ? - ? - ? - ? - Michael Ryan.
Rosemary and Rowena Bazelle were identical twins, who were in the same class as me. But as there is only one of them in this picture, the other must have been off school that day for some reason. Both twins are in this picture taken two years earlier.
Day 8
I write. A LOT.
These pages are photo notes, a list of potential instructors for next quarter, random observations, and bizarre quotes from Angela Kelly.

I went to visit Chicago. To make life easier my dear friend Emily gave me one set of the keys to her home. I left Chicago with these keys still in my pocket. I met Emily back in Cleveland (she had to comeback for various reasons) and I entirely forgot that I had her keys in my pocket. So, they still had to be returned. But at this point it had taken so long that simply mailing them was far to boring an option. So I made this card.
I submit this as the cutest way forgotten keys have ever been returned.

I was frazzled because although Rawlston has been better about his music, he doesn't seem to have the general idea: don't make so much noise partying at 3 AM that you wake your neighbors. And last night he was at it again. *sigh*. We'll keep trying to work with him...
Today's Commentary
I'm happy to say he has since moved away.
This is a past self-portrait from my Daily Portrait Project, in which I made a non-photographic image of myself every day for three years, from 3/15/07 to 3/15/10. Soon they'll all be loaded on flickr, you can find them in this set: www.flickr.com/photos/juliakay/sets/72157619599543783/

A favorite part of my weekday afternoons...opening up the little man's backpack after school (I suspect this daily ritual might change say, when he's a teenager). Today I was treated to Kermit...along with his little nephew Robin. I've always loved The Muppets, but found Robin to be especially adorable.
1970s fashions!
Plain black trousers, blue/black tank-top with diagonal stripes, blue/grey/black check jacket and (mercifully not visible here) grey paisley tie.
Oh...and a striped shirt as well!
Is there a "Did I Really Wear That?" Group that I could post this to?
It's a C.F. Martin from 1950. If you look closely, you may see scratches from her fingertips as she picked (upside down and lefthanded, ala you-know-you).
This left-handed Fender Jazzmaster was built in Japan and purchased from Hewitt's Music in Dearborn. It was the first 'serious' guitar I ever had, and still finds a way to remain my main instrument to this day. Since ~1996 or so, it's been on every recording project and live show we've done. While the factory setup wasn't bad, the overall Jazzmaster architecture was indeed difficult to live with on a daily basis. As such, I've had the help of some of the finest guitar minds I know (Bernie Hamburger, Tom Murrary) in turning this into a much more steady and dependable instrument. Via a few somewhat unconventional modifications (including the brass bar you see on the tailpiece), this is a Jazzmaster that plays like no other. Tom Murray acquired the silver bridge cap from an original '60s Jazzmaster at some point along the way, and my (now-less-punctured) left hand has been thankful ever since.

EDIT March 1st 2024. Devastated to hear about Dave's death yesterday. He was a lovely bloke who was never affected by fame.

Removing the Glove is a short play about left-handed people but is really a clever allegory about homophobia toward gay and lesbian teenagers in high school.
The Drury Drama Team of North Adams, Massachusetts was one of the first groups to perform this important work.
It was performed at the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska
International Thespian Society Troupe # 5135. It then went on the road to schools in Western Massachusetts.
The author is Clarence Coo. He was a college student at the time.

By the time we finished running errands today The Girl couldn't wait to get home to draw something she had been thinking about while we were out.
She quickly found her box of markers and a piece of paper and started drawing, not saying a word till she was done. When she is in the zone, she is really in the zone.

It's also part of a series within the project, which I call left-hand-blind (LHB), in which I draw with my eyes closed and my non-dominant hand. I do open my eyes and use whichever hands I feel like for adding color.
Diva's Challenge #11 - Non dominant hand drawn. Done with my left hand. Not as horrible as I thought it would be. I did pick patterns that would lend itself to a wobbly line. I skipped shading. The thought of using my left for shading was too much to bare. :)

My left-handed Tele, bought sometime during the Nineties. It's made in Japan. I got it before Fender established their factory in Mexico.
I had not played this guitar for years. I'm used to the heavy strings on the Alvarez. The extra light strings on this guitar feel like rubber bands!
That cheapo strap is my favourite. It was the first guitar-related item that I ever bought with my own money.
This is for Jordana.
I’m left / right handed.
If you’re left handed, do you have the same problems?
I hold scissors still in my right hand and move the paper I’m cutting with my left just like my art teacher told me to in junior school.
I use a mouse in my right hand. I launch apps, close windows, do the usual selecting and edit/copy/paste with it. All the logical stuff.
But when it comes to being creative, say using a paint brush or erase tool when doing the clone work, my left hand wants control of the pen, brush or mouse!
I think I need two mice! If only PC's (Linux, Mac OS X, Windows, etc) allowed *two* mice on the screen at once..
Thanks to my wife for holding the camera still while I took this shot. :o)
