Please vote for Learning Pet in the Open Hardware Summit Scholarship!

Designed for elementary school students, Learning Pet enriches lessons by creating a physical interface to interact with the virtual world. We demonstrate a number sorting game, where the student interacts with the robot to blast virtual UFO's with the lowest value. Correct answers are celebrated with a wing flap, and each level-up with a dance. We use the Accessory Development Kit to interface with mobile devices while away from the computer.

Ideas from our visit to NC State learning commons

I found out in September that I’m allergic to the gluten (a protein) found in wheat, barley, and rye. It was a total shock to me, as I’d been eating these grains my entire life and never knew that my body had a problem with them. Apparently, it does. So, in an attempt to make sure that I wouldn’t just be eating chicken for the rest of my life, I went on a grain-rampage to find carbohydrates that I could safely ingest. This picture from the Food Network website shows a variety of gluten free grains that I never knew existed, let alone wanted to try. Thus, this photo demonstrates learning about a variety of ingredients for my new diet and lifestyle.
