taken on 7/7/06 at the santa monica pier... 1.5 years later than the learning to fly lomos... i chase birds... i admit it... as anyone who has attempted this will know, getting this close to a seagull with an sx-70 is not easy... usually i would have bribed him with food... but i was empty handed on this day... this proximity is the result of a patient approach...

We went on a trip to James Island in The Gambia and stopped at the village of Juffureh which is the village where Kunta Kinte lived before being captured and taken into slavery. This little girl was one of many beautiful children that lived in the village. The trip was a very moving experience.

Resembling a cluster of elongated bee hives, the Learning Hub at Nanyang Technology University explores new ways of teaching at a time when computers and the internet are challenging the rationale of learning institutions.

The hub’s form is dictated by its function, and brings together 55 tutorial rooms into a structure without conventional corridors, which have traditionally created social separation and isolation. The learning hub has no one door, it is porous. Students can enter from 360 degrees around into a large central space which links all the separate towers together. Each tower is made up of a stack of classrooms which build up gradually, with gardens on selected floors.*

Taken with a tilt shift camera to control the vertical distortion, 3 images were stitched together. The 2 students at the bottom of the image forms a focal point in an otherwise empty space.

“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” ~ Fred Rogers

PHEW! I'm so glad to get this blog post finished and into the great wide world before the weekend truly begins!

Though I'm still new to the process of taking green screen pictures, I think this one turned out all right! Read a bit more about it on the blog if you like. Full credits, as always, included. FOR FREE!

A third entry for the ABS Builder Challenge finale, hosted by InnovaLUG. #azureblueftw

The crafty seed part was used 5 times, and it's pretty obvious how. This build was definitely not paintstaking. . .

In honor of my father, who taught me how to paint, and had to deal with my crazy painting skills / mistakes. A big shout out to all you fathers out there who help teach young men these skills!

Through the creations that I build, I hope to inspire other young (or perhaps older) LEGO builders to unleash their inner creativity. We all need a positive way to express ourselves, so let's let LEGO be an extension of us. Your creativity belongs to you, and nobody can take that away. Build what you want to build, and how you want to build it.

The Rolex Learning Centre ("EPFL Learning Centre") is the campus hub and library for the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), in Lausanne, Switzerland. Designed by the winners of 2010 Pritzker Prize, Japanese-duo SANAA, it opened on 22 February 2010.

Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa, partners of the Tokyo-based design firm SANAA, were selected as the lead architects in EPFL's international competition of December 2004. The team was selected among famous architects and even some Pritzker Prize Laureates such as Zaha Hadid, Rem Koolhaas, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Jean Nouvel, Herzog & de Meuron, Ábalos & Herreros and Xaveer De Geyter.

The construction took place between 2007 and 2009. It cost 110 million Swiss francs and was funded by the Swiss government as well as by private sponsors (Rolex, Logitech, Bouygues Construction, Crédit Suisse, Nestlé, Novartis and SICPA).

The building opened on 22 February 2010 and was inaugurated on 27 May 2010. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolex_Learning_Center

This young photographer’s mother, a professional portrait photographer, gave her daughter a camera to use while she’s working with her clients. What a great gift to give a young person: creative engagement with the world around her.

My first attempt at astrophotography with a tracker. This is the Orion nebula, but with a full moon washing the sky with unwanted light. Single exposure using a Sky Watcher Star Adventurer 2i. Image stacking to increase detail, and reduce noise and pixellation defects will come further up my learning curve!

Stop press - the tracker I was using appears to be faulty and has been sent back for exchange. It wasn't tracking correctly and may have accounted for the lack of sharpness.

My daughter Paige trying reading up to try and get herself out of Auto and into manual settings, doing really well so far but like most people it takes alot of practice and patience.

Hope you enjoy and many thanks for everyone viewing, faves and commented on any of my images have a great day :)

Chip Oakenbrow decides it is time to teach the younger boys of his Lenfel village the art of hunting. As luck would have it, Chip and his young companions happen upon a black bear just exiting its cave. This is the perfect opportunity for Chip to show his apprentices how hunting is done in Lenfald.

Well, this is my first CCCXI entry. I built this small dio for the "A Child's Life" category. I experimented with a new technique for the trunk of a tree. Anyways, have a great day! :)

My young boy, four years old, is following a course for children in this gym of my hometown. We had an opportunity to visit the gym before Christmas, and I was amazed by the ability of the young ones training there.

There is only so much I can do with my Canon SX30 but I am learning. Taken from my kayak on the Kalamazoo River between New Richmond and Douglas, Michigan. July 27, 2012.

Self explanatory. I love the way my daughter's eyes betray no fear of the huge B-double road train truck coming by in the other lane. Looks like the car needs a vacuum to suck up the dust visible in the sun....
