Written by my sister:
I love how the original historical characters followed the same pattern--Meet, Learns a Lesson, Surprise, Happy Birthday, Saves the Day, and Changes. It showed how childhood stayed consistent through the years. All the characters in this photo had a Learns a Lesson story.
Shelly didn't get Felicity any of her outfits when we were kids. She was always chasing after a new doll, so she didn't get a lot of the separately sold fashions. Circa 2012, Shelly tracked down a few of Lissie's outfits on ebay and she got this school outfit around that time. The model here is Emerald, Shelly's second, thrifted Felicity. The copy of Felicity Learns a Lesson is Shelly's childhood copy, which we got from our grandparents. Felicity Learns a Lesson is actually one of my very favorite American Girl books of all time and it still resonates with me to this day.
Shelly tracked down a lot of Josefina's fashions circa 2012 as well. Several, including this outfit here, were purchased new because they were still available. Shelly also ordered her socks and shoes set around that time and it looks amazing with her school fashion! Francesca, Shelly's fourth Josefina (who she got for just five dollars!) is the model here--I picked her for her hair style and beautiful face. Shelly got Josefina Learns a Lesson in fall of 2002 in a three pack of Josefina's first three books.
Shelly got Kirsten's book in a boxed set as well, but a few years earlier, when she was nine or ten. Shelly had a fixation for Kirsten--who was originally my doll--at that time. She took her with us everywhere and bought things like her books and paper dolls. Like many of Shelly's other childhood friends, Kirsten didn't have any spare fashions when we were growing up. However, she has had VERY good luck when it comes to getting clothes at flea markets! We got the dress and the school bag used from the seller we got Shelly's Bitty Baby named Jelly from in 2013. I believe the dress was only five dollars and the school bag was probably about the same price. It's so cute!
Unlike Shelly's other childhood dolls, Addy and Samantha DID get quite a few spare outfits when we were growing up. Addy was her first American Girl, Samantha her second--she was very fond of both and got them many items from their collections. Both of their school outfits were purchased new in our childhood--Addy's in 2003 and Sam's in 2004--as was Sam's lunchbox. Both of their books, like Felicity's, were given to us by Mom's parents who worked at a Salvation Army back in the 90s. Addy's school bag is thrifted--we got it when we got Kirsten's. The Addy here is Shelly's childhood doll that she's had since 1997 (though she got her head replaced at the hospital in 2003). I opted to include Shelly's 80s Samantha for this photo because she does really well in Samantha's classic looks. She's not a childhood doll, but a doll we found on ebay in 2015.
I love all these girls so much! These are characters we grew up with and stories that touched our lives. I could still summarize what each of these stories is about, though it's been a while since I've read them. Some of the girls are learning to read and write for the first time (like Kirsten learning English!) while others are learning more about morals and finding out where they stand in the world, like Felicity and Samantha. I'm so glad they all have their school outfits! They look amazing together--especially against Samantha's Scenes and Settings!
Outfits in photo:
-Felicity's Laced Jacket & Petticoat
-Josefina's Indigo Skirt & Camisa
-Kirsten's School Dress with Shawl
-Addy's School Suit & Blouse
-Samantha's Buster Brown Dress

駐車場 (chūshajō) This means “Parking Lot”. Can you tell where it is from this sign? It’s 50 meters away!
駐車場 (chūshajō) = over head
● 駐 (chū) ＝ stop-over
● 車 (sha) = car
● 場 (jō) = place
この先50ｍ means “50 meters ahead.”
● 先 (saki) = “ahead”
I've got a lot to learn with this lens as if you use it wrong, you can get some unpredictable results.
This shot just seems really fuzzy, with no sharp band of focus - maybe I just missed the focus period.
Anyway - finished my nights this morning and then went to see the Princess and the Frog with my family.
It was great - I really loved it, totally bought into the whole hand drawn movie with your daughter happy ever after type experience.
Very good
