Today I'm starting a winter wildlife photo set, all mammals. The species that can survive our northern prairie winters are relatively few, and not many of them are birds. Some of the mammals - prairie dogs, ground squirrels - go underground to sleep away the winter. Others, including badgers, become torpid in their dens to save energy. As I'm not going to try crawling into a badger's den, we'll just be looking at a few species that remain active throughout the winter.

What may surprise some who follow my "stream" is that most of the dozen images, including this, were obtained on foot, not from the rolling red Toyota blind. I lay flat on the snow to photograph this Nuttall's Cottontail, and it went about its grooming without seeming disturbed. That is the key. To learn how to spend time with animals while not appearing threatening in any way.

Even though I have hundreds or even thousands of shots of these critters, every encounter was a thrill for me - a moment when whatever I tried... worked. There's no better feeling.

"Like two cathedral towers these stately pines

Uplift their fretted summits tipped with cones;

The arch beneath them is not built with stones,

Not Art but Nature traced these lovely lines,

And carved this graceful arabesque of vines;

No organ but the wind here sighs and moans,

No sepulchre conceals a martyr's bones.

No marble bishop on his tomb reclines.

Enter! the pavement, carpeted with leaves,

Gives back a softened echo to thy tread!

Listen! the choir is singing; all the birds,

In leafy galleries beneath the eaves,

Are singing! listen, ere the sound be fled,

And learn there may be worship with out words."

~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow~

HMM😊😊😍

I will be the first to admit that this is not the greatest work, the only reason I am uploading it is because it has taken me hours and I did a better job than I thought that I was able to, so no need to comment. Hopefully I will continue to learn how to do this better!

With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating and stay safe! ❤️❤️❤️

How much more there is now to living! Instead of our drab slogging forth and back to the fishing boats, there’s reason to life! We can lift ourselves out of ignorance, we can find ourselves as creatures of excellence and intelligence and skill. We can be free! We can learn to fly!

Learn to embrace love and to let go of hatred.

Common Yellowthroats spend much of their time skulking low to the ground in dense thickets and fields, searching for small insects and spiders. Males sing a very distinctive, rolling wichety-wichety-wichety song, and both sexes give a full-sounding chuck note that is easy to learn.

So much beauty in a flower that lasts only one day! I have more than 25 varieties of daylilies, many different colors, but this deep red one is my favorite!

Companionship

Dogs make people feel less alone, preventing isolation and loneliness.

Healthy Exercise

People who own dogs have no choice but to get up and out of the house and get moving.

The theme for Macro Mondays is dice so I combined it with my week of black. Sometimes it isn't enjoyable how long it takes to assemble an image, while other times it is relatively easy. Black is challenging in many ways - reflection, dust, exposure, etc. There is always room to grow and learn, today was one of those days.

I recommend getting your heart trampled on to anyone

I recommend walking around naked in your living room

Swallow it down (what a jagged little pill)

It feels so good (swimming in your stomach)

Wait until the dust settles

You live you learn

You love you learn

You cry you learn

You lose you learn

You bleed you learn

You scream you learn

I recommend biting off more then you can chew to anyone

I certainly do

I recommend sticking your foot in your mouth at any time

Feel free

Throw it down (the caution blocks you from the wind)

Hold it up (to the rays)

You wait and see when the smoke clears

You live you learn

You love you learn

You cry you learn

You lose you learn

You bleed you learn

You scream you learn

Wear it out (the way a three-year-old would do)

Melt it down (you′re gonna have to eventually anyway)

The fire trucks are coming up around the bend

You live you learn

You love you learn

You cry you learn

You lose you learn

You bleed you learn

You scream you learn

You grieve you learn

You choke you learn

You laugh you learn

You choose you learn

You pray you learn

You ask you learn

You live you learn

The grind to conquer the Ouachitas is formidable. For much of the prior 35ish miles since departure from Heavener, this GJVMXI 18 grain train has been down to a crawl, straining to maintain double-digit speeds as the two high-horsepower belles at the front and additional two unmanned shovers at the rear pour every last ounce of adhesion they can muster onto the railhead to force one-shy-of-a-hundred hoppers of Illinois corn product across the folded Ouachita Mountains splitting across the state line dividing Oklahoma and Arkansas. With the climb to the stateline already in the books, KCS 4115 now has its full attention centered on topping the final miles up to the summit at Rich Mountain, where it will quickly transition to heavy dynamics to make a safe decent down the Arkansas side of the slope into Mena. The lengthy crest is legendary on Kansas City Southern, the most arduous obstacle on its heart-and-soul, north-to-south mainline artery connecting Kansas City and Shreveport. With the well-publicized STB decision regarding merger with northern ally Canadian Pacific on the near horizon, changes are most certainly afoot in the piney woods of the Ouachitas, but Rich Mountain and its drama will endure regardless of whether it's belles or beavers scaling its steep inclines.

But is growing a beard obligatory under Islam?

Professor Muhammad Abdel Haleem, of the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, says "this is not the only view expressed by Muslim scholars."

Many Muslim scholars now do not see the beard as an obligation and do shave their beards.

Muslims learn about the Prophet's views on facial hair not from the Koran, but through hadith - or sayings - attributed to Muhammad.

One such hadith, in a collection by Muslim scholar Muhammad al-Bukhari centuries ago, stipulates: "Cut the moustaches short and leave the beard."

The Prophet Muhammad is believed to have had a beard and those who insist that devout Muslims grow beards argue that they are doing no more than asking the faithful to emulate the Prophet's actions.

I can imagine living in Caulonia easily, a winter here would be a welcome change it offers a rich history, stunning landscapes, a slower-paced lifestyle and an interesting location to explore more of Calabria. The community's warmth and the proximity to the coast combined with its mountain setting make it an alluring destination for those seeking a more relaxed with a culturally immersive living experience. Here you will experience the authentic Calabrian hill town culture, savor delicious local cuisine, learn where to source the best ingredients all the while enjoying the warm Mediterranean climate and hopefully making a few new friends.

Looking close on Friday #Wise Words.

Siempre intento aprender a.. da igual, salir de mi zona de confort, arriesgar y aprender. Aunque con mis años no tengo mucho margen...

I wasn't really satisfied with my other similar shots. I like this one the best.

It snowed last night and it's a muddy mess outside, so I'm stuck inside playing with my camera. Believe it or not, I learn quite a bit by doing these setups and processing.... and camera controls to boot. Oh well

We had our first big snow of the season and it blanketed the landscape with a foot of beautiful snow!

I hope that all is well, I have been extremely busy and an preparing to go to Washington DC this weekend to see my image being used by the US Navy Band during their Holiday Concert at DAR Constitution Hall! I am super excited and of course will be bringing my camera!

I will be catching up with everyone before Christmas, in the meantime sending holiday blessings to each of you!
