So we learn how to take photos with a dslr, changing lens, focus, light, ISO, aperture and various other settings with millions of combinations of possible settings. We teach ourselves the theory and learn the techniques and then, along comes a mobile phone with a minute camera in it.
Having been someone who fought hard to understand the theory and complex three dimensional mathematics of navigation by the sun and stars, only for satnav to make all that learning and training totally redundant.... a waste of time, I'm beginning to sense that within a few years the craft of photography may be rapidly disappearing as all pictures are captured by mobile phone. The only people who will use a dslr will be those fools who do it the hard way just for old time's sake. But what's the point? Camera craft will die out as surely as the skill of using a sextant.

When I tire of taking photos I look at the work of others and what they are up to in their photography. It works every time ... I am inspired to pick up my camera and shoot.
A case in point is this sampling (from my TV screen) of a couple of photographers; Olga Karlovic and Alexey Titarenko (all rights reserved to them of course). I confess I have too many photography books for our small lakeside A-frame cottage.

We had our first big snow of the season and it blanketed the landscape with a foot of beautiful snow!
I hope that all is well, I have been extremely busy and an preparing to go to Washington DC this weekend to see my image being used by the US Navy Band during their Holiday Concert at DAR Constitution Hall! I am super excited and of course will be bringing my camera!

it's been raining nonstop these days, so no new photos for me =')
I don't know about you, but I always know which phase the moon is in at all times.
I took a break from deep-sky to capture our beautiful first quarter (59% illuminated) moon earlier this week.
The image is a composite of two images to reveal the unlit portion of the moon for a more 3D look.
The starry sky was also added for effect. I've still got a lot to learn about solar system photography, but I REALLY enjoy it.

I worked on this image today so that I could write a tutorial for my blog on how I've been doing these leaf shots. This image is actually from the same one as the falling leaves one.
I wanted to write one earlier but I just couldn't seem to come up with any ideas for what should be coming out of the leaf, I thought about balloons or stars but then I thought butterflies are kind of like leaves. They start out as one version of a living creature and then slowly they change into another part of it. Caterpillars turn to butterflies, buds turn to leaves which then turn back into soil to feed the tree.......the world is so connected....
I posted the tutorial for this on my blog, I hope that I was clear in my process and that it makes sense. If you decide to try it out, please send me a message or a comment as I'd love to see it!

I uploaded this a few years back and wanted to upload a larger version. One of the best mornings of photography I've ever had. During a winter camping trip in the Mt Hood national forest.

El avión Douglas DC-3 de la marina de los Estados Unidos se vió obligado a realizar un aterrizaje de emergencia sobre la playa de arena negra Sólheimasandur el 24 de Noviembre de 1973 en plena guerra fría. Afortunadamente no hubo víctimas mortales. Hoy en día representa uno de los puntos fotográficos más famosos de Islandia.

It’s one of Iceland’s most iconic and haunting photography locations. On Saturday Nov 24, 1973 a United States Navy Douglas Super DC-3 airplane was forced to land on Sólheimasandur’s black sand beach. Luckily all crew members survived the crash.

St. Patrick's Blue is officially the colour which appears on the Irish Presidential Standard (i.e. the flag of the President of Ireland) and the Coat of arms of Ireland. It also appears in the part of the Royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom representing Northern Ireland.
This blue and gold colour scheme is said to represent "the Ancient Colours of Ireland" [4] and are the colours also found on the coat of arms of "the Ancient City of Dublin" and the Flag of Munster (which evolved from the coat of arms of the Lordship of Ireland). The Flag of Connacht prominently features blue as well.
As the colours of University College Dublin, the blue and yellow scheme is officially called "St Patrick's Blue and Saffron" and is featured prominently on the institution's coat of arms. They are the original colours of the Catholic University of Ireland and date back to the inception of the College in the 1840s. The colours are used by various sports teams at the university such as such the University College Dublin Rowing Club[5]. For the fencing club at University College Dublin, the blue chosen as their St. Patrick's Blue is "Pantone 295", the same shade of blue as that is used on the pennant of the President of Ireland.[6]

We need some wooden hand picture! And what is the best combination: small bird + wooden hand! My favorite duo for today …. My oldest son is turning 13 years old this week. He has to learn how to fly on his own and I have to learn how to let go ;-)…Yes, some people ( I will not give any names !!) think I may (just may) be a little bit (extremely ??) over protective…But, even if he is almost as tall as I and he wears shoes bigger than mine, he is still soooo fragile and small in my heart. Will he be able to learn how to fly? I’m sure he will.
