4) Larry shows us an egg shell fragment which he is removing, saying it is a piece of the first egg that had hatched and produced our spunky little loon chick. He said most loons will remove egg shell fragments, "burying" the fragments in the lake so the white of the shell interior does not attract predators to the nest. This piece did not make it over the side - it was still laying off to the edge of the nesting material.

Hahahahaha HAHAHA HAHAH of course. Third crisis achieved (dead car, evicted, laid off).
So the company I worked for until this morning got acquired by another company. We've known it was going to happen for a while but kind of assumed that they'd keep the dev team on so we could continue maintaining and improving the software system they just bought, but turns out no. New owners' first order of business was to lay off 30% of the staff and inform another 40% that they were going to be laid off after a brief transition period. Turns out I was in the 30% that got to enjoy a half day of work.
Getting a severance check. And I've got a pretty highly in-demand skillset. So. Here's hoping I won't be unemployed for two long.
But damn, I really loved that job, and this is really not a great time for me to be out of work.

Every time I write something, it’s overly complex and sounds dry. That’s not the main problem, though. I’ve got ideas floating around in my head; some of them have been there for years. I know exactly where I want the stories to go, but I can’t get them to go anywhere—I can’t start them, I can’t even write the endings I’ve come up with. Maybe it’s writer’s block, but in my opinion a year-and-a-half is quite a long run of it. Or maybe I hold my ideas so highly that I’m afraid they’ll end up being terrible when they‘re finally written. Maybe, or maybe it’s laziness. Writing can take work, and a good amount of it.
Or maybe I should lay off the soda.
In this exercise, drivers put the car in a spin by turning the wheel, laying off the accelerator and pulling up the handbrake. Control is regained by releasing the handbrake, stamping on the accelerator and gently steering the car out of the spin. As the wheels gain traction and the car straightens out, the pressure on the accelerator is reduced and the car steered toward the exit point. It take a couple of tries to get the order right (turn, foor off petrol, handbrake up, handbrake down, foot flat, gentle steer, foot off petrol). The most fun of the skidpan excercises in my opinion.

I almost titled this one "Lay off the LSD, Valentine!" Psychedelic, huh? I started out drawing a bunny kicking up his heels, but I realized it looked more like he was running. When I turned the corner on the street where this was, I thought someone's house was on fire. I saw no fire trucks so I was prepared to call 911 (that's all the help most will get from me in such a situation). When I got down the street, I saw what it really was.
This of course, is a controlled burn. I don't know what the exact purpose was but there were several buses lined up carrying people from other school districts (this was At a school) and the Fire Department had it well under control. By the time I got to a position to take the photo and didn't have to inhale the smoke coming off of this thing (I imagine the neighborhood was pissed about this, I would be), they pretty much had the fire out, Couldn't see what was burning before that anyway, the entire bus was completely shrouded in smoke. As you may note, This was an Interior fire. Right where your kiddies would have been seated. There is no scortching on the bottom of the bus. I guess to insinuate something about behavior on the bus but I don't know for sure.
I tell the story the way I do for a reason. Recently, The Shitty Clowncil of my city sent out layoff notices to Every Single Fire Fighter in my city. To Save Money. When people protested the action at a meeting, they were told to 'Shut Up' by one bitch in particular. And I DO MEAN BITCH. My thought process is, instead of laying off the people who actually DO something (this includes Fire Rescue by the way, the first responders to, oh, I don't know, A Heart attack call), get rid of the worthless ass holes that do nothing and continue to collect a pay check. Unfortunately, these types continue to get re-elected and keep their jobs. Every time a Politician touches something, all they do is FUBAR. NO good ever comes of political action.
