A drowning bridge lays off in the distance. Silhouetted against a quivering, shimmering body of water. Stumps and stones along a cold and narrow path lead me towards the past. The day still early, changing, contorting, trying to figure out what its temperament will be.
What is the fate of this relic from the past? Will it be revealed once more in all its decrepit glory or will it be consigned to the depths once more waiting to be revealed at some future date?
Walking along a precarious path that we must carefully traverse. We will be the ones to ultimately determine the fate of the old ghost bridge.

Scanned slide from June 1998, the CCP could put together some consists of junk some days, but then some days they looked damn good. I had to lay off on call at the IMRL to go get this eastbound grain train leaving Waterloo. Those damn flat tires! This was way more important looking back now, then moving another IMRL train. An eastbound grain train is ready to depart Waterloo bound for Chicago with 4 red 38's!

She revisits the ship she once captained so many years ago. Now a wrecked vessel on The Forgotten sim in SL. It makes her so sad to see this ship as it lays off the coast but in a way she has many memories of sailing the seas battling the pirates and now she like her ship are both landbased.

So I might have spoken too soon when I said I'd lay off self-portraits for a while.
After a long lay off I'm trying to resurrect my photo mojo by going through my old shots. This one was taken on Llanddwyn Island in April 2015. I never got round to posting it, so now's as good a time as any. It was taken with my Nikon D7000 with a 18-55mm kit lens at 18mm, iso 100, f11 in aperture priority mode.
(52/366) Our flock of hens has dwindled over the years from 20 to just 9 now. One of them is positively geriatric at nearly 10 years of age. I'm not sure who laid this tiny "wind egg" but at least they are getting going after their Winter lay off (lay off, get it lol). Such eggs never have a yolk. Placed beside 2 shallots for size comparison. HWW!
Late on a Saturday night in March of 1989 just north of Colgate, Wisconsin an eastbound Wisconsin Central Ltd. freight train derailed. – The wreck occurred somewhere in the middle of the train so no locomotives were involved.
As you can see it was quite a mess, but there were no hazardous materials spilled so with the help of Hulcher Railroad Services things were cleaned up and the line re-opened fairly quick.
For a few months after the incident had occurred while remnants of the last few remaining smashed railroad cars were still laying off on the side I remember some crews refer to this location as “Scrap Iron Curve” over the scanner as they passed through. ~~ Jeff Hampton Photographs ©

I must have been a good girl this year. I heard sleigh bells while feeding my horses yesterday so hopped on my horse bareback to go investigate and look at what I found. I definitely feel the Christmas spirit :-) Apparently, there was lay offs at the North pole that's why the horses are pulling the sleigh.
Orator Castle, home to the Council of Orator is a historical place to a legacy of great knights. It lays off the coast of the continent in the midst of a beautiful forest. Few dare to oppose and attempt to conquer such great Stronghold.
This was the MOC I brought to Brickfair Virginia 2016, it was my first castle I made and I feel it turned out pretty cool. More to come! :D

In 2019, UP unveiled a new special paint that celebrated the company’s employees. UP 1111 would tour the system shortly after, making stops at every major terminal across the railroad’s thousands of miles of track. However, the irony of the locomotive made it a target of graffiti shortly after being put into service, with UP laying off many employees shortly after making 1111. Despite this, two years later UP would make another one of these units, this time celebrating the company’s diversity.
Just after six years of service, 1111 is seen bringing an MPDRV onto its final miles into Roseville. It was quite the problematic train, a centerbeam with a problem, the train took ten hours from Dunsmuir to Roseville, and a hot axle caused the train to stop just minutes after taking this photo. The train would finally get into Roseville shortly after 9 PM.
Might wanna lay off those energy drinks...

It won't be long until the lake opens up. After the winter lay off it was nice to have the drone back in the sky.
We see these sapsuckers in our yard only occasionally - always a thrill. I think this is a young female. I am sorry she didn't show her yellow belly.

After a lay-off of almost three months I have finally managed to get back out into the hills. Today’s hike was the ever popular “Fairfield Horseshoe”. This picture has been uploaded from my perch on Great Rigg and looks down Rydal towards Ambleside. The stretch of water is Windermere and the hill on the right is Heron Pike. Quite how it got that name I don’t know. I’ll upload more shots when I have reviewed my DSLR images.
Presumably a music student back at university. I hope they are able to get back into the flow after possible a long lay off
The Alabama Southern is by no means a flat railroad. However, the elevation changes along the route between Tuscaloosa, AL and Columbus, MS are no too extreme but, when it comes to hadling these long heavy trains I'm pretty sure you must be a scientist with the throttle! What makes it even more difficult is the fact that it is mostly a 10mph railroad. Try maintaining that with 10,000 tons of train on this track! Here we are at Ethelsville, AL, which is probably the highest point on the railroad at a mere 378 feet in elevation, these guys with train 112 have climbed over 100 feet since Delmar, a couple of miles away. They can be heard struggling, then laying off the throttle not breaking the speed limit, then pulling hard again right up to here. Then all the kings horse relax and it's fun time with the air....again, at 10mph. Work is being done, but it appears to be a rather slow progress. In these parts, WATCO is certainly no "borg".
(30/365) This afternoon's haul of eggs. Our dwindling flock of 13 old hens (including 6 ex-battery ones) have started laying in earnest this week after their winter lay off.
After pulling a single boxcar out of the Tribune's Freedom Center on the right, UP #815 runs around its train at Grand Avenue Yard before starting up towards the northwest side to switch Alpha Baking. CNW waycar #11119 will bring up the markers as usual and will be used on the two-mile shove down the Cragin Lead.
The events of the past month have effectively signaled the end of freight operations in the former C&NW switching district around North Avenue. Last month, Blommer Chocolate abruptly closed its plant on Desplaines and Kinzie immediately ending rail service on the upper level and the last tank car arriving on the lower level last week. The Tribune is expected to start laying off workers this month with printing operations moving to Schaumburg and the Freedom Center being vacated to make way for the construction of Bally's casino. This leaves Alpha Baking as the last industry on the Harvard Sub east of Deval which means regular freight operations east of Mayfair will cease once Blommer and the Tribune close. Word on the street has it that an Elk Grove-based job will replace the 60B to switch the remaining customers on the Harvard between Mayfair and Barrington. Another chapter of Chicago railroading is about to come to an end.
