You were caught in the crossfire of childhood and stardom, blown on the steel breeze

Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!

--Pink Floyd 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond'

Something a little different from me. ;-)

I have been playing with the Deep Dream Generator (an AI image generator which takes your base photo and/or instructions into consideration while constructing the image), trying to make images which illustrate some of the many many haikus I have written.

I thought I would show a few of them to you all.

This was based on a photo of my sister laughing, just a year before she died. Alzheimers took her memories of her life, her jobs, her adventures, her travels.... but it never took away her soul, her love, or her laughter. It would have eventually taken away even that, but she died of kidney failure before the Alzheimers could kill her more slowly. She never stopped being accepting, gracious, kind, cheerful, and loving. I was so impressed by her amazing attitude. I don't know if I would be able to be like that if my memories were being erased. Maybe, with her example in front of me, I could.

I liked the image (although I had to work on it a LOT to fix weirdnesses) because on the right side is a mass of dark flowers, which to me seems to symbolize her memories fading into darkness, and behind her are what might be interpreted as angel's wings, waiting for her.

This woman doesn't actually look like my sister, but I really liked it anyway. Here is a link to the original photo of my sister, upon which this AI generated image was based:

The haiku I wrote, which this is supposed to illustrate, reads:

Seeing you laugh while

Your memories disappear...

I am in awe of you.

During this holiday season, it's important to remember that each of us navigates our own journeys, filled with moments both joyful and challenging. It's easy to get caught up in the festivities and daily life, but it's crucial not to take people for granted. We never truly know the battles others may be facing, especially during this time.

Whether it's the joy of celebrations or the weight of personal struggles, everyone deserves compassion and understanding. From my own experience, I understand the complexities of grief and the need for support. No matter the length of my absence while dealing with my own grieving process, I want those dear to me to know that I'll always be here, ready to offer a listening ear or a comforting presence whenever they may need it.

Let's cherish the connections we have and show kindness and empathy to those around us, especially during this season of giving and love.

Much love, gracie xx

A bright, carefree image full of joy and spontaneity.

“A day without laughter is a day wasted.”

I was laughing when my husband snapped this picture today. Now everytime I look at it, I can't resist smiling at the memory.

Last week, my niece's daughter celebrated her first birthday. Three days a week I spend the day with her. We sing, dance, laugh, play, read books, go on walks, snack on graham crackers, explore, nap, share and enjoy each others company.

"Smiles do not always echo cheer,

Nor tear-drops measure grief,

For sorrow seeks a gilded mask,

And joy in tears, relief."

- Georgia Douglas Camp Johnson

A proud new father sits down with his dad to have a drink.

"Well son, now that you have a son of your own its time I gave you something."

"Dad you dont mea-"

"Yes I do. You've earned it." Says the father as he passes a copy of '1001 Dad Jokes 5th Edition' to the son.

"Dad I dont know what to say...I'm honored."

"Hi honored," Replies the father. "I'm dad."

Laughter puts you into the moment, and when you are in the moment you are completely nonjudgmental, just noticing...witnessing...the way things are and the way they ought to be.

Story of friends meeting up after a long gap

A couple’s play along the Rhine River on a summer evening in Cologne, Germany caught my eye.

In Hoi An, Vietnam, a loving couple share a moment of joy and happiness together on their farmland as the sun sets.

Isn't child laughter just the greatest, lifts you up when your having a bad day.

A moment,

as light as summer air.

Two voices,

woven into laughter

that echoes beyond the stone.

No secrets,

just joy,

etched in smiles

and held in hearts.

I must have said something funny. This was taken in 2022 while on a sunset cruise off the coast of Maui. I look forward to going back soon, supporting the tourist economy and those who depend on it. Take care everyone, and have a wonderful holiday season and a great new year. B

This picture was a misfire. I'd been drinking, and forgot to turn on the flash, so the image came out completely black, until I put it through Photoshop on the off-chance. I think the resulting graininess is in keeping with the candid, accidental spirit of the shot.
