Once again the time of various mid-winter festivals pervade the place.
During the reign of Henry VIII, Father Christmas was pictured as a large man in green or scarlet robes lined with fur. He typified the spirit of good cheer at Christmas, bringing peace, joy, good food and wine and revelry. As England no longer kept the feast day of Saint Nicholas on 6 December, the Father Christmas celebration was moved to 25 December to coincide with Christmas Day.

Please - you really need to View On Black!
For The Rogue Players Dof Fiends, FGR Uncluttered, and of course Bokeh Wednesday.
Also it's about time I posted to my mate Abe's fab new group Theme Of The Week so I give you my representation of air.
I'd originally planned a SP using bubbles but that didn't work out so I went with this instead - taken while sitting on my doorstep. It was a lucky capture as I only got a few shots before the wind started blowing and I had to give up. We've just been having fun with bubbles at bathtime too - E has enjoyed catching them on her hand and popping them. We love bubbles!
I've been looking out for these beauties and today I wasn't disappointed, my first sighting so far this year, this was the only one I saw and it was in the woods not in the open, resting on the bluebells, it was very obliging, letting me get very close but it has been rather cold, which helps
When NASA gifted this 26 meter radio telescope to the University of Tasmania it was largely due to the work of Grote Reber. Today a museum also exists on this site, telling Reber's personal story in the odyssey of scientific discovery through radio astronomy.

This is a large flycathers, can be seen in highlands trails, roadsides, forest edges and streams. Usually perched on a low branch from which it catches its insects prey.
We spotted these yellow flowers on the path heading home. I thought they were some kind of buttercup at first, but they're not.
It was great to see them flower this time of year.
I like the artificial effect that results from using the 85mm lens with a large aperture

Excerpt from heritageburlington.ca:
An oustanding example of a Flemish-bond brick structure in Regency Style. The lowpitched end-gabled roof has wide eaves, decorative wood brackets, and returns. The centre front gable has an arched window and the gable ends have a quarter-pie window on either side of the chimney. The first-level windows are large. The front windows may have opened as French windows on to a verandah. They have multi-paned glass and low wood panels. The centre door is single, with sidelights and transom and similar wood panels. The door frame may be a restoration, but is well designed and executed. The front gable has some decorative bargeboard trim, added later. There is a rear open porch with a shed roof.
Built in 1850 for Donald McGregor.

The impressive former LNWR-station building at Betws-y-Coed is now devoted to retail outlets as the station itself is just an unmanned halt. Finished the first Forestman. I will build another one like it and a third one with legs switched direction wielding a sword.
Height: 26 inches (65 cm)
Build: Mostly consisting of 2x4 bricks (hollow legs, torso, head and hat)
Modeled after the Forestman Collectible Minifigure Series 1
Update: I have replaced the original image with a somewhat better one.
This was taken in Bushy Park yesterday, with 600mm lens and I have cropped it. I saw many people not respecting the ‘50m distance rule’. This male Red deer is around 25 stone and can run at 30mph…. More importantly, please respect the animal and not chase it for that ‘perfect shot’.
Some of the butterflies seen over the summer.

A couple of large white caterpillars resting on the remains of a nasturtium leaf in the garden. The shed skins on it show that they are growing well.
Our tub of nasturtiums have become a miniature wildlife park with more blackfly (hunted by hoverfly larvae) and caterpillars than flowers. As I'm more of a wildlife photographer than a gardener we're just letting nature take its course.
