The very first cloud forest bird we saw when we got to San Gerardo de Dota. They were usually scratching in the leaf litter, almost always in pairs, but this one landed briefly at a feeder on the deck of a cafe where we were having lunch one day.
The large-footed finch is a passerine bird endemic to the highlands of Costa Rica and western Panama. Despite its name, it is not a true finch, but rather a member of the large family Passerellidae, which also includes American sparrows, juncos and towhees. It is the only member of the genus Pezopetes ~ Wikipedia

This is one from my archives of 2006. I'd just bought my first 2 DSLR's Canon EOS D30 and D60, 3Mp and 6Mp, and they were both brilliant. This was taken with the D60 and a Sigma 180mm f/5.6 macro. These butterflies are extinct in Britain, but someone had unofficially released a few in Derbyshire. There was no larval foodplant for them and they didn't survive to the next year.
