As I was watching the other eagle in the tree, the one I had arbitrarily dubbed the female, there came a high-pitched whistling call and this one came into view. She returned the call and flew up to meet him, they circled around then she flew off and he landed, looking rather ungainly with his landing gear down :-)

If there were eggs they would be taking turns sitting on the nest and not on the branch. The female lays eggs about 5 - 10 days after a successful mating so I surmise that they have mated and are now guarding the nest so that no other birds can take up housekeeping there while they wait. Just a guess. I love watching these magnificent birds!

White-tailed eagle making a pass at some carrion. The eagles are fed daily throughout the winter at this site in Białowieża Forest. This not only helps the several pairs in the area get through the winter and increases the chances of them breeding the following year, but also means that they are regular visitors to the hide. We followed strict precautions to ensure they were not disturbed, entering the hide before sunrise and leaving after sunset when the eagles had left to roost.

This is a former Care Flight aircraft. That company was bought out by Air Methods and it has been re-marked as Native Air, another company that Air Methods took over a while ago. It still says Care Flight on the underside of the fuselage.

There are few things that produce as much joy as watching a gull deliver an effortless perfect landing, again and again, and again.

We are not worthy of the habitual yet incredible beauty of gulls.
