CalFire Tanker 71 returning to Ramona Air Attack Base after dropping on the Valley Fire.
This is how Tanker 71's Labor Day started out:
8:33 take off 8:59 land
9:07 take off 9:30 land
9:36 take off 9:58 land
...and so it continued throughout the day. This aircraft made 12 drops on the fire on Labor Day, the other tanker that is based at Ramona, Tanker 70, made 15 drops.
I shot this at midnight Saturday morning on Frank Sinatra Drive along the Hudson in Hoboken, NJ. The ESB is lit up in traditional American colors of red, white, & blue to celebrate the hard workers across America.
This shot is composed of three long exposure bracket shots of -1 0 +1 and was first processed in Photomatix and then tweaked in Gimp (Photoshop knock-off)
Check it out in Lightbox.....
Enjoy the rest of your weekend! Peace....

Well, I'm uploading this on Labor Day and it depicts a picnic so it's a Labor Day picnic. Sure, why not?
This very American scene was illustrated by Charles Kerins. I was going to delete the end-of-the-paragraph text at the top, but a) I couldn't do it cleanly, and b) it really just kind of fits, doesn't it? I just wish I scanned the damn thing straight.
I found an old text book in the free pile at the library and I liked some of the images inside, and so will you.
It's from "The United States and Canada," part of the series "Lands and Peoples of the World," by Katheryne Thomas Whittemore and published by Ginn and Company in 1961.
The Labor Day holiday weekend meant work for us as we continue to renovate our 1865 farmhouse. This weekend was spent starting to clean out the shop next door, built in 1900, and getting rid of century-old junk and dirt and filling up a dumpster.

Picture was taken at Völklingen Ironworks in southwest Germany. This piece is a memorial to the forced labor that worked in this facility. The boxes on either side are archive boxes and evoke the identities that were stripped from forced laborers during World War II.
Carl Sandburg College participated in the 130th Annual Galesburg Labor Day Parade on Monday, September 5, in downtown Galesburg. Participants included Sandburg students from the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, student ambassadors, student-athletes from soccer and cross country, area high school students in the Sandburg Upward Bound program, and Sandburg employees and administrators.
Child labor in Syria tends to be limited to small manufacturing in textiles, food, and chemicals, and organized along kin and ethnic lines, while located for the most part in private homes and basements, hence lacking proper hygiene. I found those three in a basement in a popular Aleppo neighborhood north of Syria. The basement where they were working had twenty or so workers of different ages from within the same family, and their job consisted in converting large rolls of cloth imported from China into men's suits for the price of a $100 per unit. But even at this price the Chinese have managed to be more effective, as labor in China tends to be more rationally organized for international competition--and cheaper.
Happy Labor Day everyone. Another Summer draws to a close and it sure went fast.
Have a safe and happy holiday!

I have mixed feelings about today… not only because of the end of the summer but because I don’t think highly of American labor. Many of my friends will argue with me and debate the financial side… but… working in the pharmacy, I can say we have more than enough people on antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anti-anxiety medications. We work a lot, and a lot not only in terms of hours but also in terms of losing enough of brain cells through stress at work to have a ruined & agitated Central Nervous System. Why “to do our job” mean to get killed physically & mentally?!! I always had that work ethics. I walk in, work myself to the last drop and drop. Over the past year I reconsidered. How I feel after work week is my barometer whether I want to do what I do. If I work to the point of agitation where I have no nerve cells left for my family it’s unacceptable!!! Now I make sure I work just enough and where I can come home and be happy, not overworked and in a good mood. We get paid for completing a task and drive ourselves to the grave mentally & physically! This is not 1900’s, and American society should get it out of their system! No one pays us enough to take our lives, because our life & time are priceless!!!!
Strong contractions lasted all night on Friday, five minutes apart. My labor started early on Thursday morning, with inconsistent contractions beginning at 3am.
My labor was a little wonky, with contractions only being consistent when I was in bed on my side, and they stalled if I changed positions.

at Labor of Love Birth Center on Saturday morning.
I realized how to relax, breathe through the contractions and stay calm, letting them pass through me, instead of fighting them and clenching my muscles or bracing myself against them. Acceptance makes all the difference.
it was an epic birth, will write more later
I went to the parade in West. The town that had the terrible fertilizer plant explosion.
A great turnout. This town is coming back stronger than ever.
Have a great labor day today.
Notice the honor to the fallen Heroes.
A click and it is better :-)

This is meant to represent a "macro scale" version of an Intercept Orbit labor frame. It has large mag-lock feet for holding on to the outside of a ship's hull, along with arms that are low and close to the surface it will be working on.
So today is Labor Day, signaling the end of summer. My kids go back to school tomorrow and my visitors return to France. But what a wonderful summer it was here in Vancouver!
