Every one enjoy the Weekend

all my American friends enjoy the long Labor Day Weekend

We went for a barbecue at my sister in laws Yesterday,

later me and my niece we went to the beach for some sunsets,

all my photos were taken from a landing 12 steps down,

We did not dare to take 50 more steps,

All these years I have been going there never used their private

beach from above.

Labor Day is a federal holiday in the United States celebrated on the first Monday in September to honor and recognize the American labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements of the United States. It is the Monday of the long weekend known as Labor Day Weekend.

I noticed two opposing architectural details on a building in Seattle, took a shot of each one and thought they would make a nice collage for our Labor Day Holiday.

Of all my wildlife blessings over the years, this encounter has to be in the top three. While walking the beaches of Ft. Pickens Florida back in early April of 2021, I had a pod of 12+ Bottlenose dolphins frolicking some 50 yards off the beach.

Through my travels and my many years in the Navy, I have seen and photographed dolphins too many times to count. This morning, and these two dolphins in particular, were acting very differently than any other I have seen.

They were hovering just below the surface, making wakes that indicated that at least one of them was moving about while submerged. Then they would both rise, take a breath and resume the same action. Being a kid from Indiana, I had no idea what was going on. I thought she might be giving birth, but having only been around dogs, cows, horses, buffalo, alpacas and my bride (twice) while giving birth…I had no idea what dolphin labor, especially with 99% of it taking place under water and out of view, looked like.

This photograph captures the last time they broke the surface together. This is the breath taken to make that last push that grants birth.

The next photograph taken and already shared, was of the baby breaking the surface and taking its first breath.

Looking back now, the odd wake while submerged was her staying somewhat stationary while he swam circles around her…no doubt keeping one eye on his bride, and the other looking out for possible predators while she was at her most vulnerable.

Witnessing special times can be such a gift from God!

It takes all kinds of hard working folks to keep this country moving, and I appreciate them and their efforts. Happy Labor Day.

This image is a labor of love. Originally begun in 2022 and finally finished this year. It is comprised of images from 2 different telescopes, 2 different cameras, two types of binning, and 9 different exposure lengths. I had no idea how difficult it would be to marry all this data together. Finally, here it is.

Discovered in 1702 by the German astronomer Gottfried Kirch, M5 is one of the oldest globular clusters in the Milky Way galaxy. With an apparent magnitude of 6.7 and a location 25,000 light-years away in the constellation Serpens, M5 appears as a patch of light with a pair of binoculars and is best viewed during May.

A majority of M5’s stars formed more than 12 billion years ago, but there are some unexpected newcomers on the scene, adding some vitality to this aging population.

Stars in globular clusters are believed to form in the same stellar nursery and grow old together. The most massive stars age quickly, exhausting their fuel supply in less than a million years, and end their lives in spectacular supernova explosions. This process should have left the ancient cluster M5 with only old, low-mass stars.

Yet astronomers have spotted many young, blue stars amongst the ancient stars in this cluster. Astronomers think that these laggard youngsters, called blue stragglers, were created either by collisions between stars or other stellar interactions. Such events are easy to imagine in densely populated globular clusters, in which up to a few million stars are tightly packed together. Text from NASA/Goddard

M5 V2 is perhaps slightly better. V2 used a masked stretch, which made the stars smaller but resulted in a clouded overall look. In V3 I decided to go with a more conventional stretch for better clarity.

For the working class of America this day means a three day weekend and an opportunity to have a BBQ and a family gathering, but it's been a generation since inception and I'd like to make a reminder here. We scoff at what China is doing right now, but they are going through the exact same things America did in the not so distant past. Slavery, indentured servitude, child labor, and then union strife. Like reading a book you can see them turning the page on greed as these things for them like us will be overcome and the people will be respected and compensated fairly hopefully sooner than latter. I believe that America can help by removing them from most favored nation status and force them to this centuries standards on how we treat people and pollution. That said, I thank goodness for those MILLIONS who fought, who died, who persevered to free our slaves, who outlawed child labor, who organized our workers so that they may be compensated according to their labor and hold accountable those in power to protect those who are not. Power to the people, and God bless America.

White Ibises enjoy their day off from work by relaxing at the beach house on Galveston Island.

My husband and I collect rocks. Anytime we walk the shoreline we look for rocks that are unique. They can be fossils, something significant for the area such as Petoskey stones, or just have a cool shape to them. We've also found sea glass and some pretty cool shells. Anyway this is a small part of our collection that we so love...

An example of the rare but appealing fauna which occasionally highlights the biodiversity of our still relatively virginal ecosystem. Usually appearing only on summer holidays, and then but briefly, it nevertheless is a fine representation of the derivation of the word "fauna"... a Roman goddess of earth and fertility.
