My husband and I collect rocks. Anytime we walk the shoreline we look for rocks that are unique. They can be fossils, something significant for the area such as Petoskey stones, or just have a cool shape to them. We've also found sea glass and some pretty cool shells. Anyway this is a small part of our collection that we so love...

The Deer Creek Scenic Railroad continued the long established tradition of running doubleheaders on Labor Day weekends. Southern Pacific 2-6-0 No. 1744 pulls while Union Pacific NW2 No. 1000 pushes on the rear of a packed 11-car train approaching Deer Creek Dam at Wallsburg, Utah on the afternoon of Sept. 1, 1986.
Rena Detrixhe just finished a wonderful piece of art at the Downtown Philbrook Museum and sit down to scan it. I could see the wheels turning in her head for the next project as she looked across her art!
“According to Detroit 1701, in 2000, the Michigan Labor History Society formed a non-profit to create a landmark for the labor movement, to which many labor organizations contributed. David Barr, an artist from Livonia, designed the 63 foot steel arcs, while Sergio de Guisti, an Italian artist from Redford, designed the base of the monument. The monument was dedicated in August, 2003.
Two steel arcs (which weigh 30 tons) almost form a circle in the landmark, but there’s a break at the top. This represents the work that still needs to be done in the movement. Around the circle are 14 Vermont granite boulders, each six feet tall. Also at the base of the monument are plaques with quotes that speak to the labor movement throughout the years.”

1 shot pseudo HDR, tonemapped in Photomatix Pro. Slighty post-processed in GIMP.
Not sure if I really get the whole HDR thing yet... this was a bit of an experiment. I had three shots (+2 Ev, -2 Ev) but it didn't really work out when I tried tonemapping them... so I went with one shot instead and it came out more realistic at least.
