Label reads: “This wine is made from Pinot Chardonnay grapes grown by our Hunter Valley grapes growers. The grapes were picked early in February at high sugar and acid levels and the juice fermented under controlled temperature conditions and finally blended together. The wine was then matured for four months in new French Oak hogsheads as in the traditional French White Burgundy manner. This wine shows the distinctive Chardonnay aroma and French Oak character on the nose. The palate is broad and full with good depth of flavour; the wine will develop into a Top Hunter White Burgundy style. Murray D. Tyrrell. Winemaker.”

Blue is apparently the butterfly of wine label design. These are terrible cell phone pics, but show just a sampling of the abundant wine labels featuring blue in a big way at the moment. Purple is a runner-up, by the way.

Vodka label design for an infused vodka that Happy Dog served at one of their events. Every event they do a new label.

This Claret was vintaged from Shiraz grapes grown on the “Terra rossa” soil at Coonawarra. Maturation was in French oak 500 gallon casks and puncheons for a period of 2 years, prior to bottling. Prior to the construction of Waddesdon Manor, no house existed on the site. Ferdinand de Rothschild wanted a house in the style of the great Renaissance châteaux of the Loire Valley.[25] Ferdinand chose as his architect Gabriel-Hippolyte Destailleur.[26] Destailleur was already experienced in working in this style, having overseen the restoration of many châteaux in that region, in particular that of the Château de Mouchy.
Through Destailleur's vision, Waddesdon embodied an eclectic style based on the châteaux so admired by his patron, Baron Ferdinand. The towers at Waddesdon were based on those of the Château de Maintenon, and the twin staircase towers, on the north facade, were inspired by the staircase tower at the Château de Chambord.[27] However, following the theme of unparalleled luxury at Waddesdon, the windows of the towers at Waddesdon were glazed, unlike those of the staircase at Chambord. They are also far more ornate.
The structural design of Waddesdon was not all retrospective. Hidden from view were the most modern innovations of the late 19th century including a steel frame, which took the strain of walls on the upper floors, which consequently permitted the layout of these floors to differ completely from the lower floors.[28] The house also had hot and cold running water in its bathrooms, central heating, and an electric bell system to summon the numerous servants. The building contractor was Edward Conder & Son.[29]
After the Manor was completed in 1883, Ferdinand quickly decided it was too small. The Bachelors' Wing to the east was extended after 1885 and the Morning Room, built in late-Gothic style, was added to the west after 1888.[30] The stables to the west of the Manor were built in 1884. Ferdinand and his stud groom devised the plan, working with Conder. Destailleur designed the façades in a French 17th-century style.[31]

Wine Cellars
The Wine Cellars in the Manor were created during the Centenary Restoration and opened in 1994. They are modeled on the private cellars at Château Lafite Rothschild. More than 15,000 bottles are stored in the Cellars, some 150 years old, the majority from the Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Mouton Rothschild estates. It is the largest private collection of Rothschild wines in the world. There are also wine labels designed by artists such as Salvador Dali and Andy Warhol.[32]

I have always been a big fan of wine label design. :::loves wine tasting too::: I've been studying wine labels more than normal due to my work on Odonatia's winery, Dark Palms. I have come to the conclusion recently though that I would really like to get into the industry as a label designer someday. These are some of the ones I found really interesting because of shape, color or overall composition...

It was made from Shiraz grapes and the colour is good medium ruby. The Coonawarra character is outstanding and pungent, the palate full flavoured with astringent ask tannin. Bottled 24.4.68. in Wine Shows it was awarded: bronze medal Adelaide 1965 class 4, silver medal Perth 1968 class 29, bronze medal Adelaide 1968 class 26, bronze medal Melbourne 1970 class 979. Produce of Australia. Leo Buring Pty. Ltd. Tanunda, S.A. 1 pt. 5 fl. oz.”

Label reads: “This wine has been made from Hermitage grapes grown on our Ashman's Vineyard and it the third year of production from these vines. Vintaged in February, 1966, this wine was matured in a 600 gallon German Oak cask until bottling in July, 1967. It is of a Burgundy style, typical of wines made from Hermitage grapes grown solely in the Pokolbin area of New South Wales. With its excellent bouquet, medium bodied flavour and soft tannin finish on the palate, this wine in my opinion will improve greatly with a further two years bottle aging. Murray D. Tyrrell.
