The BMW Guggenheim Lab -- a combination of think tank, public forum, and community center -- is located temporarily in a vacant lot in the East Village (just east of Second Avenue, spanning from Houston to 1st Streets). The building is designed by Atelier Bow-Wow. After NYC it will travel to Berlin, Mumbai.

Premier John Horgan toured Ethọ́s Lab in Surrey, BC. In partnership with Solid State Industries, the Ethọ́s Lab will leverage a cooperative model to develop networked, members only, youth spaces (inclusive of all youth) that will be located in major urban centres that reflect their technological reality. Initiated in Metro Vancouver, the intent is that these youth spaces will scale to other urban centres.

Airmen from the 621st Contingency Response Wing (CRW) based at Travis Air Force Base, CA, deploy to Central African Republic (CAR) for humanitarian support, on December 13, 2013. AFRICOM is beginning to transport African troops from Burundi to CAR using US Air Force C-17 aircraft operating out of Entebbe as part of a larger effort of African nations supporting the African crisis in CAR. C-17s will to fly about a dozen missions from Entebbe over a week time frame, transporting a Burundian light infantry battalion of about 850 men and equipment from Bujumbura to Bangui in CAR. The C-17’s are staged at Entebbe airport as a convenient mid-way point with the proper facilities to service the aircraft and support aircrews. While I'm not a huge fan of the name, these industrial "ceiling" fans work very well and the Lexington-based company has found good success.
I like to keep my Flickr stream strictly dolly-based. But because I love this picture SO much, I had to include it.
This is the teaching lab where Cornell students take classes on mushrooms, and also on plant pathology. I have cleaned up the lab before heading home after an evening mushroom identification lab. The microscopes and books are put away, the pawpaws are eaten, and the benches bear their usual assortment of mountants, squirt bottles of water, alcohol, and bleach, bunsen burners, and other lab stuff. There is a blue laminar flow hood for working with cultures, gloriously sick plants by the sink, a mushroom basket, and various bags and bottles of fungi. If you were here with me, you'd hear the big cooler that lurks out of frame in the back left corner, rumbling loudly in a major key.
