OD-AGJ was one of several new-built Boeing B.747-200s ordered by Middle East Airlines, and was built and delivered to the Lebanese flag carrier in 1975. Due to the repeatedly unstable political situation, the 747 soon proved as too big for MEA's operation, and most of them were therefore leased out to other carriers.
The first lessee was Air Gabon, who leased OD-AGJ in June 1977, and used it on the regular Libreville to Geneva service. It was seen taxiing out for departure on then runway 23, showing full Air Gabon livery.
The lease, however, ended in May 1978, and the aircraft was returned to MEA, only to be passed on to carriers such as Saudia, Air Algérie or Egyptair. In mid 1985 MEA sold the 747 to Carter Leasing, who continued to lend it to various airlines. In 2001 it was acquired by Kalitta Air, its last operator, eventually retiring the 747 at Oscoda-Wurtsmith in 2011, where it was broken-up during 2013.
