Located in the altitude fields of the "Serra da Bocaina", the "Casa de Pedra", as it is currently known, was built by Dr. Lassance, a resident doctor from Rio de Janeiro, in the beginning of the 20th century and its apogee in 1914.
Once ready and decorated with the richest imported refinements, the house was not much to the liking of his wife who was not interested in the patrimony.
The abandonment and vandalism were destroying the beautiful building that is now in ruins, and today is only a reminder of the golden days of "Bocaina".

Located at the corner of O’Connell Street and Abbey Street, the Grand Central Café Bar is located in a genuinely grand central site, but doesn’t have a long history. It links what were two premises, 10 and 11 O’Connell Street, which have been a single building since the Munster and Leinster Bank acquired No 11 in 1926. No 11 was rebuilt by Benjamin Ball in 1824.
The buildings were extensively damaged in the Easter Rising of 1916, primarily by a shell from HMS Helga. No 10 was refurbished as a result in 1917.
The buildings played an interesting rôle during the Easter Rising. They housed at that time the Irish School of Wireless Telegraphy. With all telephone lines in and out of the city cut by the British authorities, on the second day of the Rising, 25 April 1916, the rebels sent the following message in Morse code thanks to one of their number, David Bourke, who was proficient in the art of telegraphy: “Irish Republic declared in Dublin today. Irish troops have captured city and are in full possession. Enemy cannot move in city. The whole country rising.”
Ships did receive the message and relayed it to the international press, although three days later the Rising would be crushed.

A Painted Lady, happily feeds, in the center of the bush, surrounded by the lovely and fragrant blossoms of the butterfly bush. A little hard for the camera to focus upon but the butterfly's antenna helped! LOL ;-) If you were a butterfly though, what is not to like about this scenario?! You would be crazy not to... :-))

Located in the city of Milwaukee, it’s the first time we’ve visited it. It’s located along Lake Michigan and while it wasn’t our favorite state park, it’s always nice to see green space in cities.
Another photo of a local neighborhood grocery store, located on Jensen Drive, just north of downtown Houston Texas. Photo was taken a week later, back in January 2021. Used my telephoto lens to get a close up of a corner of the store. Photo was made with a Canon 80D with a EF-S 18-135mm lens, ISO set at 4000. Photo was changed to b+w in post-processing.

Located just west of Salt Lake City in Magna Utah by the Great Salt Lake just off of I-80 is Kennecott Copper's Garfield Smelter smokestack the tallest free standing structure in Utah and in fact west of the Mississippi. Built in 1974 it stands 1,215 feet dwarfed from a distance by the 9,000 foot Oquirrh mountains that surrounds it but driving by the structure whose hexagonal base is an impressive 177 feet wide one realizes it scale is immense. The smelter that smokestack serves is one of the most efficient in the world capturing 99.9 of the sulphur gas released so it size is overkill but it was very expensive and costly to downsize. Besides it is used as a landmark for air, land and sea travel on the Great Salt Lake.

Located in downtown Montour Falls at the end of a small public park. There is parking in this residential area for two cars and when I arrived both spots were open.
Waterflow on this July day was not as heavy as other falls in the area but still makes for a nice photo. If you are a waterfall junkie, the finger lakes area of upset New York has a lot, many are less than 5 minutes’ walk from parking while others are further.
Located on Chief's Island, which was returned to the Coos Indian Tribe. The future of this lighthouse is uncertain, it is supposed to be restored and reopened to the public, but there is no funding for the project, which would involve restoring the bridge to the island. My wife and I rented a house on Lighthouse Way, this view is not accessible by the public.

Arnota Monastery is located in Costeşti commune, Vâlcea County, Oltenia, and it is one of Romania’s most valuable monuments, famous for its architectural style, sculptures and paintings. Initially a monastery for monks, today it is (since 1999) a convent for nuns. It is consecrated to Saint Archangels Michael and Gabriel and its dedication day is 8 November.
The monastery was erected by ruling prince Matei Basarab (1632-1654), between 1634-1636. Under the church of the monastery were found the traces of an older church. It is said that the ruler Matei Basarab decided to build this monastery on the site of the household where he found shelter in a difficult time, when he was chased by the Turks.
The monastery was renovated by ruling prince Constantin Brâncoveanu (1689-1714) between 1705 and 1706. He also added a porch with a belfry, and replaced the iconostasis and the front door carved in chestnut wood. He ordered the painting to be restored, with special precautions not to damage the previous layers.

Baphuon is a Hindu temple located immediate northwest of Bayon in Angkor Thom. It is a massive architecture that measures 120 m by 100 m and 34 m tall plus a 210 m long approach road. It is a typical temple mountain. It would be 50 m tall if the central tower is restored.
Two photos were merged to get this image.
It was constructed in the mid 11th century by Suryavarman I who reigned Angkor Empire from 1006 to 1050. The temple was constructed immediate south of his palace. He was also responsible for the constructions of Preah Vihear on the Thai border, Phimeanakas, Ta Keo and West Baray in Yasodharapura (Angkor Thom).
The temple was largely collapsed by the 20th century. It was restored by disassembling to all the pieces and reassembling them like a 4D jigsaw puzzle, which started in 1996 and completed in 2011.
