Blooming for Mother's Day. Right on schedule.

these lilacs are finally starting to bloom.

they smell heavenly.

we have several shrubs out front and these are the first blooms of the shrub we planted last year in our backyard.

everything bloomed a lot later this year with the cold cold spring weather.

but i think it is always worth the wait.

70-300 L is very fine lens for close-up shots.

Wonderful Spring flowers that sadly, are gone too soon.

Descanso Gardens is a riot of bloominess! But best of all for me today was the lilac. Go! Breathe it!

Just starting to emit purfume

i hate flower pictures. but my mother sent me out to take pictures of our lilac bushes. and i liked a few of them surprisingly.

OMG They smelled so good.

 

My mom requested that I photo her flower garden today. Her pink dogwood and several other items are in peak bloom.

When I took these photos I was down wind of the lilac bush. I could smell the fragrance from 10 feet away. Heavenly!

can't you just smell em?

There was a huge lilac bush on the end of the block where I lived growing up. Every spring it would burst into a huge purple afro and you'd get hit with that marvelously peppery fragrance as you walked by. I used to sneak into the yard and grab a small sprig sometimes, to sniff at as I walked to school. When I was little I thought I could capture the lilac essence by soaking the flowers in water for weeks. Needless to say the result was more compost than perfume.
