A rebel stands guard as another places a Kingdom of Libya flag at a state security building during a protest against Muammar Gaddafi in Benghazi March 8, 2011. The flag which was used when Libya gained independence from Italy in 1951, has been used as a symbol of resistance against Libya's leader Muammar Gaddafi in the recent protests. Leptis Magna, also called Lpqy, Neapolis, Lebida or Lebda , was a prominent city of the Roman Empire. Its ruins are located in Al Khums, Libya, 130 km east of Tripoli, on the coast where the Wadi Lebda meets the sea. The site is one of the most spectacular and unspoiled Roman ruins in the Mediterranean with so few tourists visiting it...

The light coloured drawings are relatively recent. Some of that sort I've suspected were by Berber children having fun. At the top, towards the right, is a very much older much more sophisticated image of two rhinoceroses (look carefully and you see four hind legs, insinuating the other rhino). I suspect they were made by hunter gatherers when the region was savannah. Notice pecking on the flank of the rhinoceros possibly from some use the image served. That's commonly seen.

Cyrene (in Greek, Κυρήνη – Kyrēnē) was an ancient Greek colony in present-day Shahhat; Libya, the oldest and most important of the five Greek cities in the region. It gave eastern Libya the classical name Cyrenaica that it has retained to modern times.
Cyrene lies in a lush valley in the Jebel Akhdar uplands. The city was named after a spring, Kyre, which the Greeks consecrated to Apollo. It was also the seat of the Cyrenaics, a famous school of philosophy in the 3rd century BC, founded by Aristippus, a disciple of Socrates.
During the Gadhamis festival, people from all around the country come back in the old abandoned town (UNESCO listed) , and live for few days inside the family house. The old town is really impressive to visit, as it looks like an underground city, protected from the sun by covered alleys, and very few windows in the houses. The kids are proud to wear the traditional clothes, and for the girls, the family gold and silver jewels.
Lots of Tuaregs also come from around to celebrate the town.

The colour-coded topographic view shows relative heights and depths of terrain in the Libya Montes region on Mars. As indicated in the key at top right, whites and reds represent the highest terrain, while blue/purple is the lowest.
The color-coded topographic view is based on a digital terrain model of the region, from which the topography of the landscape can be derived.
This region was imaged on 21 February 2017 during Mars Express orbit 16647. The ground resolution is about 15 m/pixel and the images are centred on 90°E / 1°N.

I'm trying to stay as updated about the revolutions in the middle east and northern africa as possible. Qadaffi's actions truly make me sick, and it makes me wish I knew a way I could help. Right now being aware is the only thing I can do. If you aren't aware of what is going on here's an article that can help motherjones.com/mojo/2011/02/whats-happening-libya-explained
