Airline : Air Inter
Aircraft : Airbus A320-111
Registration : F-GGED
MSN/LN : 15
Location : BSL / LFSB - Basel-Mulhouse Int'l Airport
Photographer : UNKNOWN
Date : March 1989
Notes : On January 20th, 1992, Air Inter flight 148, F-GGED - hit high terrain southwest of Strasbourg airport, due to an inadvertent selection of a descent rate of 3,300fpm versus a descent angle of 3.3 degrees, coupled with the fact that at the exact moment this autopilot action was enabled, the aircraft encountered a slight updraft. This caused a quirky feature of the Airbus autopilot to begin an emergency descent, at a rate far steeper. Sadly, Air Inter decided not to install GPWS, therefore the aircraft flew into the terrain with virtually no warning. Of the 96 passengers, only 9 survived tragically.

After the A6-DAW Jumbo, here's one of my targets' list. By hasard, both came at the same time when the lightning conditions were at their best.
Probably my most beautiful BBJ (with the VP-CZW & N839BA) catched so far 😍.
PS : you may notice the very kind First Officer (don't hesitate to zoom on the pic in order to see what he's doing 😄).
