I can't throw away old letterpress blocks, even if I don't know what they mean and will never have an excuse to use them. It seems a century of previous printers felt the same, because this little zinco is still here.
The National Reserve, a forerunner of the Territorial Army, existed under this name from 1911 to 1916. Just to emphasise the South London connection, the little piece of underlay card pasted on the back says "37 Medusa Road, Catford", maybe an over from the printer's previous job.

More social history! I came across this today (3 of them), at the start of a footbridge over the railway line, just behind Hansburys Pub on Courthill Road SE13. Dated 1894, it obviously marks the parish boundary at that time. The other side of the bollard just says 'Lewisham'.

The skies this evening were amazing, and kept getting better and better. I lose so much of my day on these winter daylight walks, I’m looking forward to the days lengthening and doing this later. I’ve certainly never seen Lewisham looking this sharp before!
