Some pictures taken by the late Michael Cleary. Spring 1983.

A new freight working that I have wanted to get for a little while (but with expectations of it starting for many months perhaps years) is the Grain - Colnbrook (for Heathrow) aviation fuel. Apparently, the pipeline to Heathrow was in such a bad condition that it was cheaper to run trains than to fix it. There are several paths per day. It is so nice to see more petrochemical traffic again, especially on the Southern. The last remaining traffic was the now deceased Eastleigh - Alton flow that stopped a couple of years ago.

This was my first visit to Lewisham, but I shan’t be hurrying back. The first platform staff member I spoke to was really nice and came to make sure I knew about all the passenger train disruption and allowed me to take pictures. Then a cleaner came who was not so keen but he reluctantly allowed me to continue. Then another member of staff came and told me that I wasn’t allowed. Maybe they should have spent time helping the stranded passengers instead of bothering me. Maybe SouthEastern, next time I will just pay as you go to Southern, Southwestern or Great Western territory instead.

On 5 July 1984, 33040 passes Lewisham on a train of empty Cartics, bound for Dover. The train is running via Bexleyheath, which only a handful of trains were and are booked to do, owing to the line's gradients.

Here's another result of a raid of my archive. This time an unidentified 33 is seen heading through Lewisham, no doubt with a return engineers train to Hither Green.

From the late evening sunny glow I guess I would have taken a detour whilst on my way home from work.

Wonderful textures and colours on this old building, but i can't find out anything about its history. I'm sure there's a story there somewhere!

Stagecoach London (11323 YW68OZM) - Route 75 is seen on it's late night runs towards Croydon leaving Lewisham Shopping Centre. I thought about testing my night photography and it went ok, the slight blur on the fleet number did irritate me at first but I grew to be fond of it, nothing is perfect.
