I am moving towards a minimalist lifestyle, decluttering and subtracting the things from my life that no longer bring me joy and happiness.

Deerfield Beach, Florida

From the archives. Hongkongs neighbourhoods less frequented by tourists.

Continuing my theme of various ecosystems with some wildlife residents of the prairie.

The prairie ecosystem occupies the lower and mid-latitudes of the Interior Plains of Canada, the United States, and Mexico. It includes all of the Great Plains as well as the wetter, hillier land to the east. From west to east, generally the drier expanse of shortgrass prairie gives way to mixed grass prairie and ultimately the richer and wetter soils of the tallgrass prairie.

Lesser Prairie-Chickens inhabit shortgrass prairies of the southern Great Plains, especially areas where shinnery oak, sand sagebrush, and bluestem grasses (such as little bluestem and sand bluestem) predominate.

The northern population of the LPR is listed as threatened/vulnerable while the southern population is listed as endangered. This is due to significant habitat loss and fragmentation of their native grassland ecosystems. This habitat loss has been caused by various factors, including conversion of grasslands to cropland, livestock grazing, energy development, and fire suppression. Additionally, climate change and the use of herbicides further threaten their habitat.

The interconnected mesas that make up the Waterpocket Fold at Capitol Reef National Park light up a beautiful red at sunset, April, 2023. The one on the right reminded me of a locomotive, hence the title of this photo with my thanks to Ian Anderson.

The Digger memorial , a remembrance cenotaph in many small towns throughout Australia . They were erected at the end of the Great War of 1914 -18 . A permanent reminder of the huge sacrifice this young country paid with the lost of so many young lives in time of war .

With a population of fewer than 5 million , 416,809 enlisted , 62,000 were killed and 156,000 wounded gasses or taken prisoner .

Phoeniconaias minor.

Lesser flamingo.

With less than 18 minutes left to work, UP train YKS62-29 tries making it as close as it can to UP's 18th St. Yard with a transfer drag from KCS's Knoche Yard. They're seen here on Main Track 1 of the UP KC Metro Sub by St. Louis Ave. A pair of SD40N's provide the power as usual. 5/29/21.

Looking east from Walkerville Beach in Victoria, Australia towards the rising sun which is less than a minute away from breaking above the horizon.

An early morning fisherman is in his boat on the waters of Waratah Bay - just to the left of the bright dome beginning to mark the spot where the sun will soon make its appearance.

The globs dotting the sand seen here on the right are the casings of sandworms which are often used as rod bait to catch fish. There are a couple of different methods to collect sandworms with the easiest using a bait pump which is a steel tube with a vacuum sealed pump which sucks up sand and, hopefully a sandworm or two.

With less than 1 hour to go before sunset, West Coast driver Mick Kelly on 60103 Flying Scotsman crosses the viaduct over the River Eden with the return Carlisle - Liverpool charter train. Always a bit of a dilemma where to place the engine with this type of location, but I personally chose the slightly longer smoke trail, fortunately this also helped in hiding the first of the three pullman coaches in the rake.

Incredibly my last visit to this location was in November 1988 with 8F 48151.

One of the most numerous and widespread diving ducks in North America, especially on inland waters. Can be very active when feeding, diving and surfacing repeatedly. In winter often seen on lakes and bays in dense flocks, numbering hundreds or even thousands, and often with no other species of ducks associated with them. The two species of scaup sometimes occur in the same places, but they tend to keep to themselves rather than mixing freely.
