208 parts - This one was somewhat inspired by R-Type ships... nevermind if you can't see what I mean ;-)

By channelling the power of electrical storms through its lightning rod, the ThunderGlide can stay airborne indefinitely, or… at least until the sun comes out! This single seater aircraft is a perfect choice as a reconnaissance aircraft on stormy planets thanks to its radar mapping capabilities and zero net emissions.

I was so excited to be able to use the DUPLO turret pieces. They're pretty uniquely DUPLO, and give such a retro vibe when added to the rocket.

Here we are! My very first UCS-style model is finally out, and it's a big one: the mighty Acclamator-class assault ship from Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Made of 5,152 pieces, at 72cm (28,4′′) in length, weighing 3,2kg, it's by far my biggest project to date.

This 100% SNOT build was painstakingly modeled to accurate reference material, from exact profile dimensions to surface detail on top and underneath. The underside was also full of geomertic challenges due to its numerous angles and shapes.

I wanted to include essential functionality like detachable landing gear for landed display, and openable hangar doors with boarding ramps that slide down to reach the ground. The ship also features a removable stand, as well as a hidden handle to make switching display modes easier.

In addition to the "standard" version with Republic markings, I also made a "class-II", all-gray version, which comes with its own instructions and parts list.

The Acclamator is technically one of my oldest projects: the initial version of the design was made right after the Torment in 2021, but I eventually shelved it as I wasn't truly satisfied with it. Since then I had so many requests for this ship that the idea of making a new version progressively grew on me, until I took the plunge in late January 2024.

Starting the new design from scratch, I decided to scale it exactly to Martin Latta's fantastic UCCS (Ultimate Collector Series) Venator, which happens to be in ~1/1000 scale. So I hope my Acclamator will, along with Latta's Venator, form the basis of a bigger 1/1000 scale BrickVault Republic fleet in the future!

Instructions for the Acclamator are available at BrickVault!

The XL-15 enters the LEGO City!

This set wouldn’t have been on my radar if it wasn’t for the buzz about the Lightyear film’s director being AFOL Angus MacLane (check out his builds on Flickr!).

Evidently, he pushed for the in-film design to have a yellow transparent canopy, reminiscent of the Classic Space elements.

He also had an interesting spot on LEGOCon, worth a check out.

The build of this one and a cat seater spaceship is substantial! As a medium sized ship it checks most boxes for me: fits all accessories, swoosh-ability is there, has mobile base in form of laptop (stretch), and droid in the Catbot (also stretch). No escape pod/rover, which loses some points when compared to the medium builds of my ‘90s childhood.

But the elements and connections this set brings to the table blow anything from my childhood away. There are a few elements that are super obscure.

Color scheme for the spaceship is great, can’t miss with light blue, white, and black with that yellow canopy.

Also bonus points for extra head/hair elements for minifigs.

Less stellar for me were the minifigs. Buzz looks pretty good, but I’d prefer the dome over a normal helmet (I’m sure that’s a movie plot detail). The other figs have nice printing, but are pretty mute brown, like something out of a Star Wars set.

The shoulder pauldrons for all of them are cumbersome to range of motion.

The rocket launcher build doesn’t really work out to be held, but I do appreciate the built up weapon/scanning accessories.

Very nice set, strong suggest for the building experience and MOC possibilities!

I left off the red stripes off the wings. Does it look cleaner? Worse? Let me know

I’ll be looking at more contemporary LEGO sets that are bringing back Classic Space soon!

... Just to say I'm not dead ;-) Sorry, Dark Ages (no inspiration) and A LOT of work and worries, so I can't spend as much time as I would on Flickr... So I post those 3 MOCs made a few months ago, just to say Hello to all my friends here... I've seen some wonderful creations from some of you recently... Keep building mates ! And thanks for all your comments on my previous MOCs ! PS I'll be back...sooner or later ;-)

I tried out the photorealistic render option in studio 2.0. I used the very high settings at 4k resolution (or 3840x2160 pixels to be specific).

The model itself is the improved version from 2016.

1993’s Blizzard Baron enters the LEGO City from Ive Planet 2002!

An OG Hoth snowspeeder, who doesn’t love that?

This set has a couple classic Ice Planet prints, cool minifig with accessories, and a decent amount of neon transparent orange elements for a little ship!

Not only is it a capable little snowspeeder, but it has a detachable communications base/portable science lab. Simple, but a good use of a few parts to bring more story elements to a small build.

I’m happy to have this guy added to my Ice Planet 2002 fleet. Did you have this set? Does it hold up as interesting to a modern audience? Anyone know why it’s also called the Ice Planet Vx122?

I’ll be looking at more retro LEGO soon, including more Space!

Octan Hypertanker

SHIP Length: 118 Studs

Built for SHIPtember 2025.

My SHIPtember plan this year began with a specific goal. I created pages of sketches to prototype layouts for a microscale SHIP with a full interior, and I had a bucket of transparent purple parts purchased over the previous few months set aside in the hope they would be useful for my plan.... A plan which I completely discarded on August 31st when I found the Skeleton Storage Heads (Large) on clearance at a local shop.

So instead I built a minifig scale, Moonbase compatible Octan fuel transport with zero planning.

This is my first Vic Viper, and also the first MOC I've done with the Space Police 2 color-scheme. I love this theme, however I've had only two small sets from it because it was released during my "Dark Ages".

An imaginary set for the revival of the Futuron theme - 1026 parts -

Instructions available from Rebrickable at: rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-183741/Rubblemaker/tie-silencer-...

Arguably, the greatest thing to come out of the Star Wars sequels was the Tie Silencer. A stunning, sleek take on the Tie Interceptor that had way too little screen time. Set 75179, ‘Kylo Ren’s TIE Fighter’, was my entry point into this hobby and I’ve kept hold of it all this time. It’s a great set, but I wanted to turn this playset into a display set. So here it is. A complete overhaul and extensive modification of set 75179.

It keeps much of the interior structure from the set but has an entirely new exterior design with numerous details added and lines re-made based on screenshots and highly detailed 3d models (you’re looking at a lot more than just the original set with some tiles stuck on top) It also features completely re-designed wings using new construction methods.

I re-designed the underside and part of the internal structure (with no loss of structural integrity) to incorporate a cavity for the stand to slot into. A modified version of the UCS Batwing stand worked perfectly for this ship. The instructions have also been completely re-designed from scratch.

The ship now weighs in at 1324 pieces, including the stand (the original set is made up of just 630 pieces) 52% of the parts from the original set are used in my modification so if you own the set you would need an extra 1012 pieces to create this mod, plus it’s stand. (Currently those parts can be purchased from Bricklink for about £60).

Another year, another ship… and a new Digitally Assembled video? Why yes!!

I created 红海 (Hóng Hăi) using the AI tool Midjourney to produce an image to base the design off of.

I worked with my friend and incredible concept artist, Till Freitag, to explore Midjourney and challenge us to create two very unique looking spaceships inspired by Midjourney’s prompt.

Are you curious how we created our designs? Follow the link to check out the video with Till and I on Digitally Assembled: youtu.be/kc8M9Iw9B_0

For those unfamiliar, SHIPtember is an annual LEGO community challenge where a builder must create a spaceship 100+ studs long on the longest axis within 1 months’ time. This is my third SHIPtember. This year was special with the inclusion of Midjourney and collabing with Till. The ship took roughly 62 hrs and was made in Bricklink Studio, Cinema 4D with Arnold, and Photoshop using my Puget Systems machine. Till’s art used Blender and Photoshop.(you can find his version on his and my Instagram page)

Here are my thoughts on my design’s fictional bio:

红海 (Hóng Hăi) is a Chinese deep space radiation research ship launched in the year 3090. It was made by the 太空海军研究会 (The Space Naval Research Society) in 3087 and reached Saturn on May 21st 3090. Its primary mission was to research a strange phenomenon of new unknown forms of radiation occurring near Saturn.

The ship is equipped with a large laser array to study the phenomenon and radiation levels up close. The main “sail” carries billions of sensors to detect various forms of radiation. It hosts a crew of 7 who are well shielded inside the spacecraft when not inside the large rear observation deck. The ship is 632.5 ft tall (192.79 meters). 7 years into its mission findings discovered the unique radiation was caused by The Shell, an alien inter-dimensional artifact discovered by German astronauts in 3093 near Neptune. The purpose of The Shell is yet to be determined but the radiation left in its wake was found to cause disruptions in the fabric of reality wherever it resided. Hóng Hăi’s taikonauts have been recognized for their findings upon return to earth.

The Lego model is 114 studs long (35.8in), 138 studs high (43. 6in), and 87 studs wide (27.3in) and has 7732 pieces.

Finally, after 4 months of work I'm pretty happy to show you my own version of the N-1 starfighter in Lego bricks! The built itself represents the Mando's vehicle appeared in "The Book of Boba Fett" series. It comes with a nice little stand which provides the rotation of the model. The ship has enough space to place all the equipment of Mandalorian and a special seat for Grogu. So, tried hard to depict every small detail of the reference. Hope, you'll appreciate it!

Took a while, but I was able to get to more of the finer details of this build, including some greebling and a full compliment of control thrusters.

1991’s Aerial Intruder from the Blacktron II fraction enters the LEGO City!

The ‘Big’ ship from a fan favorite (myself decidedly included) sub-theme is actually not all that big compared to the other Space sub-themes’ flagships. This ship checks the majority of my criteria for what made an excellent spaceship play set as a kid!

Great color scheme and cool large transparent elements?

Blacktron 2 has arguably the best + printed large windshield!

Detachable base with usable interior space?

The center of the ship is large when opened and has an aft storage compartment. While tight when loaded with cargo, great when side-builds are deployed

Dropship/Escape Pod?

Two of the best designed simple ships that deploy from the sides, that are also designed to be compatible with the rest of the sub-theme! So simple and genius

And a bonus jetpack element that is classic

Rover?

Two! Yes, super simple, but very standard for the time.

Action features?

The simple rover launch action definitely suffices.

Droid/Robot?

Not for this faction, but I believe that’s because they were outlaws. Correct me if I’m wrong?

Yes, I’m a really big fan of this old spaceship. Any detractors, like having 5 pilot-able options with only two minifigs can be understood with all their buddies they’d have to break from the Space Police II

This Absolute Classic brings me to the conclusion of my look back at some of my favorite LEGO from the ‘90s. I’m sure I’ll do more shoots with these sets in the future, but I’ve got a ton of contemporary sets to showcase for now and a large MOC in progress.

What did you think of this ship? Did you have it? Does it hold up today?

Finally a Amy Sedaris minifig!

(Seriously, she’s awesome)

First Naboo Starfighter I’ve build in, what, 23 years? LEGO has stepped up the experience. A very sleek build that is larger in hand then I expected.

Positives: minifigs- we finally get a Brown Eyes Pascal head. Build is not completely symmetrical, cool technique used in the engines. Storage space is sufficient on this thin ship. Swooshes. Good projectile integration.

Not as positives: gaps at the canopy. No extra hair element for Mando (I added one for the shoot). Price… The yellow coloring to homage the original ship looks a little off to me.

All in all very cool set, larger than I expected, and a nice building experience

Shout out to PopToys for having this set available before launch!
