1991’s Blacktron II little battle pack, The Two-Pilot Craft. What a name.
This fun little craft is about as basic as it gets. No printed pieces, other than the minifigs, but the weird thing has charm!
Blacktron II is a great space sub-theme with the black, white, and neon green color scheme. Really screams retro LEGO to me.
Acquiring this set was really just to grab a couple more of these minifigs for cheap, but I’m happy with this funny little craft.
More ‘90s LEGO to be featured soon, including more (larger) Blacktron II

Side view of USS HAVOC (Heavy Armor Vroom Ohshitthatsfast Cruiser) is a deep space three person ship designed for scouting new territories. Equipped with heavy armor, multiple phaser cannons & plasma array. Two side port thrusters, 1 tail fin thruster and a massive "We need to go now" engine.
Fun build to say the least.
I do not have the faintest idea how to edit for background...
A bee sized nano drone used to infiltrate bee colonies and extract valuable information on their plans to take over the world.
It feels like ages since I made a freestyle spacecraft. I often find myself influenced by insects for some reason and when I saw the City Oceans Mini Sub Lego set (60263) I thought I might be able to make some kind of Viper using it's yellow mid-section. That grew into this bee nano drone. Because.. bees rock!
I might continue this and make a series of insect themed robotic sci-fi craft...

Here is a baby replica of the latest iteration of the LEGO Galaxy Explorer set 10497. It still has the main play features of the original set just down sized. Pop off canopy, steering wheels, opening rear end with boarding ramp, airlock sliding door and last but not least ride on booster engines!
This was a blast to build. And was inspired by the builds @troublesbricking made while I was travelling Europe. While on holiday I managed to track down this squad of space babies so that when I got as soon as I got back from holiday I could get into building this moc.
Kuat model: R24 halberd
Designation: I-wing
The mad engineers at Kuat Systems Engineering took on some of the requests from the newer resistance pilots and applied it to their ace in the hole. The R24 Halberd is a sort of successor to the RZ-2 A-wing.
Pilots took note of the B-wings agility incorporated a more agile body layout with a pivoting cockpit. Centred the engines and increased the amount of directional vanes. Many pilots would joke how the engineers are still just fitting the biggest and fastest engines they could to a chair. Pilots also wished to inflict more damage. So kuat slapped the biggest ion cannon they could fit… more jokes ensued about overcompensating until these I-wings started taking out capital ships while taking minimal damage due to the new found agility.
Due to the larger power draw of the ion canon, its laser cannons were swapped out for smaller faster repeaters that operate off less energy. With how fast and agile the I-wing was, the loss of range in dog fights is negated. I-wings were very demanding of the pilots abilities and not great for drawn out fights. But if you wanted to be an ace pilot in the resistance forever pushing the boundaries of your abilities, this was the starfighter
Happy #starwarsday !
This build was originally started for TJ the Brickwright. I couldn’t finish it in time. But since picking it back up It’s taken me a while to figure out the construction of the nose. I really wanted to get that sharp bladed edge for the nose.
Maybe it's a submarine, maybe it's a ship, maybe it's both... Another evil Zorg protoype with secret specifications...
By channelling the power of electrical storms through its lightning rod, the ThunderGlide can stay airborne indefinitely, or… at least until the sun comes out! This single seater aircraft is a perfect choice as a reconnaissance aircraft on stormy planets thanks to its radar mapping capabilities and zero net emissions.
► Instructions for the Venator are available at BrickVault!
The Venator is probably my favorite capital ship in the SW franchise. So what better tribute to this ship than bringing it to life a second time? And since this version will likely be the last, I wanted this build to set a milestone in my work. A proof of my dedication to a spaceship I love so much. Enter the Ultimate Venator-class Star Destroyer!
At almost 7,000 pieces and 85cm (33.4") long, this model is a faithful, screen-accurate replica of the Venator featured in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Neither quite UCS-sized nor Midi-Scale like my Negotiator, it had to be the most refined Venator I could possibly make. I modeled it closely after the source material to capture all the proportions, angles and intricacies of the original design at a reasonable size.
Although this isn't a direct update to my Negotiator but a separate model, the 25% increase in size gave me a lot more wiggle room, opening the door to drastically more complex design choices: fully SNOT wings on both the top and underside, clean tapers and angles, brick-built Open Circle Fleet symbols... although challenging, this intermediate scale offered just enough space to achieve the prop look I strive for.
And the best part is, this model scales perfectly with 2mpaired's Eviscerator ISD. I realized this shortly after settling on the size... the idea of pairing such a beauty with a matching-scale Venator made me even more motivated about this project.
Although it's a pure display model, its sturdy integrated stand makes it easy to handle safely. Lateral hangars can be switched between closed doors and deflector shields for variety. In addition to the classic version, the all-gray variant of the ship is also included for all you Empire addicts.

Another year, another ship… and a new Digitally Assembled video? Why yes!!
I created 红海 (Hóng Hăi) using the AI tool Midjourney to produce an image to base the design off of.
I worked with my friend and incredible concept artist, Till Freitag, to explore Midjourney and challenge us to create two very unique looking spaceships inspired by Midjourney’s prompt.
Are you curious how we created our designs? Follow the link to check out the video with Till and I on Digitally Assembled: youtu.be/kc8M9Iw9B_0
For those unfamiliar, SHIPtember is an annual LEGO community challenge where a builder must create a spaceship 100+ studs long on the longest axis within 1 months’ time. This is my third SHIPtember. This year was special with the inclusion of Midjourney and collabing with Till. The ship took roughly 62 hrs and was made in Bricklink Studio, Cinema 4D with Arnold, and Photoshop using my Puget Systems machine. Till’s art used Blender and Photoshop.(you can find his version on his and my Instagram page)
Here are my thoughts on my design’s fictional bio:
红海 (Hóng Hăi) is a Chinese deep space radiation research ship launched in the year 3090. It was made by the 太空海军研究会 (The Space Naval Research Society) in 3087 and reached Saturn on May 21st 3090. Its primary mission was to research a strange phenomenon of new unknown forms of radiation occurring near Saturn.
The ship is equipped with a large laser array to study the phenomenon and radiation levels up close. The main “sail” carries billions of sensors to detect various forms of radiation. It hosts a crew of 7 who are well shielded inside the spacecraft when not inside the large rear observation deck. The ship is 632.5 ft tall (192.79 meters). 7 years into its mission findings discovered the unique radiation was caused by The Shell, an alien inter-dimensional artifact discovered by German astronauts in 3093 near Neptune. The purpose of The Shell is yet to be determined but the radiation left in its wake was found to cause disruptions in the fabric of reality wherever it resided. Hóng Hăi’s taikonauts have been recognized for their findings upon return to earth.
The Lego model is 114 studs long (35.8in), 138 studs high (43. 6in), and 87 studs wide (27.3in) and has 7732 pieces.

1991’s Aerial Intruder from the Blacktron II fraction enters the LEGO City!
The ‘Big’ ship from a fan favorite (myself decidedly included) sub-theme is actually not all that big compared to the other Space sub-themes’ flagships. This ship checks the majority of my criteria for what made an excellent spaceship play set as a kid!
Great color scheme and cool large transparent elements?
Blacktron 2 has arguably the best + printed large windshield!
Detachable base with usable interior space?
The center of the ship is large when opened and has an aft storage compartment. While tight when loaded with cargo, great when side-builds are deployed
Dropship/Escape Pod?
Two of the best designed simple ships that deploy from the sides, that are also designed to be compatible with the rest of the sub-theme! So simple and genius
And a bonus jetpack element that is classic
Rover?
Two! Yes, super simple, but very standard for the time.
Action features?
The simple rover launch action definitely suffices.
Droid/Robot?
Not for this faction, but I believe that’s because they were outlaws. Correct me if I’m wrong?
Yes, I’m a really big fan of this old spaceship. Any detractors, like having 5 pilot-able options with only two minifigs can be understood with all their buddies they’d have to break from the Space Police II
This Absolute Classic brings me to the conclusion of my look back at some of my favorite LEGO from the ‘90s. I’m sure I’ll do more shoots with these sets in the future, but I’ve got a ton of contemporary sets to showcase for now and a large MOC in progress.
What did you think of this ship? Did you have it? Does it hold up today?

Slicing em and dicing em.
This build was a lot of fun until it turned out to be 11 studs wide. If you want a real challenge try creating symmetry with an 11 stud wide vehicle. It’s a real pain in the neck. But apart from that I’m especially pleased with the fact that the circular saw at the front of this ship actually spins round!
I’m thinking this fleet of Blacktron ships are combat vessels that fight without using guns. So the first one was a giant battering ram while this one just chops up anything in it’s way. Lovely!
It’s NoVVember so here’s my Vic Viper for 2025 (the first one anyway, might make more). I really wanted to push the futurism with this and make it as sleek and dynamic as possible. I had an idea to have this huge dorsal fin slicing through the rear section of the ship like a blade. It took some head scratching to figure out how to do it with a snot build like this but I'm pretty happy with the result.
My third and biggest Vic Viper. With this powerful addition to their space fleet, Futuron won't be afraid of Blacktron anymore !
One of my first real attempts at SPACE!, so please be gentle...
Landing gear detail. This is what drew the project out for so long...
Thanks to The Jinja Ninja for sure!

Here we continue our journey exploring the Blacktron II theme with ship 2 in the fleet. The main colours for this line of sets (originally released all the way back in 1991) were black, white and trans neon green. I really don't know if dark grey was also in there, but I also don't care because it is now. :)
I liked the Flying Fish spaceship by LeggoCMG and I had fun coloring it with the Classic Space colors.
1992’s Rebel Hunter from Space Police II enters the LEGO City!
Took lots of pictures of this one, had some fun, check it out!
Also known as the Space Police Prisoner Patrol, this medium sized spaceship brings back loads of memories. Two fractions of Space sub-themes are represented here with the Space Police II fig and a Blacktron prisoner, which I really like as a huge fan of Blacktron.
The prisoner’s capsule is a funny little build that looks like it would clamp down on the fig’s feet. I like how these were the standard capsule in the Space Police 2 line and could be used with their other sets.
The ship itself is pretty basic. Uses some large funky elements to add easy bulk and width. I was never a fan of the technic elements being so prominent on the top of the ship, but I love the simple drop-ship action feature! Great transparent dark green elements! Very classic LEGO.
I always figured the green and red modified facets (3x3x2) were the equivalent of police lights, subbing green for blue.
Did you have this set growing up? Like it? Find it problematic?

Caught in a death grip.
This weird looking thing is ship 4 in my melee Blacktron fleet. It’s great for opening up the hulls of passing enemy ships, or giant cans of tuna for the Blacktron space cat.
This might be it for this fleet. It's definitely it for this year. Plus, I think the Neo Classic Space guys will be needing a melee fleet of their own soon..
If Rocket were a Guardian of the Gradius instead of the galaxy, he would definitely drive a Vic Viper. I turned his Warbird into a VVarbird just in time for Novvember!

This is an approximately 1/44 scale LEGO model of a Frazi class heavy fighter deployed by the Narn regime in the Babylon 5 universe.
Babylon 5 was a good science fiction series from the 1990s which featured a detailed story arc and great characters. There were many interesting ship designs (CGI no models) provided for the Humans and the many aliens species.
This is my second LEGO realization of a ship from Babylon 5 (the first being a Earth Alliance Hyperion class Heavy Cruiser).
The Narns were one of the younger star-faring races who had recently emerged from under the domination by another race, the Centauri. The Narn weapon systems were relatively unsophisticated; nevertheless, they were made quite powerful by the brute force approach as can be seen by the two massive particle beams emitters on either side of the one-Narn cockpit.
The model is 15.5 inches (39.3 cm) long and weighs about 2 pounds (0.9 Kg). The cockpit canopy hinges open and provide enough room for a minifig and control panel. I used a dark green color accent for the model; if the LEGO parts had been available in olive green, that would have worked well in replicating the source material. The "C"-like symbols on the side of the hull are made using excess material from a LEGO sticker sheet from an Egyptian themed set.
This was a fun model to build; it gave me a break from all the Detroit architecture models that I have built.

The XL-15 enters the LEGO City!
This set wouldn’t have been on my radar if it wasn’t for the buzz about the Lightyear film’s director being AFOL Angus MacLane (check out his builds on Flickr!).
Evidently, he pushed for the in-film design to have a yellow transparent canopy, reminiscent of the Classic Space elements.
He also had an interesting spot on LEGOCon, worth a check out.
The build of this one and a cat seater spaceship is substantial! As a medium sized ship it checks most boxes for me: fits all accessories, swoosh-ability is there, has mobile base in form of laptop (stretch), and droid in the Catbot (also stretch). No escape pod/rover, which loses some points when compared to the medium builds of my ‘90s childhood.
But the elements and connections this set brings to the table blow anything from my childhood away. There are a few elements that are super obscure.
Color scheme for the spaceship is great, can’t miss with light blue, white, and black with that yellow canopy.
Also bonus points for extra head/hair elements for minifigs.
Less stellar for me were the minifigs. Buzz looks pretty good, but I’d prefer the dome over a normal helmet (I’m sure that’s a movie plot detail). The other figs have nice printing, but are pretty mute brown, like something out of a Star Wars set.
The shoulder pauldrons for all of them are cumbersome to range of motion.
The rocket launcher build doesn’t really work out to be held, but I do appreciate the built up weapon/scanning accessories.
Very nice set, strong suggest for the building experience and MOC possibilities!
I left off the red stripes off the wings. Does it look cleaner? Worse? Let me know
I’ll be looking at more contemporary LEGO sets that are bringing back Classic Space soon!

I hope you will like it.
More details about this build on my Youtube channel:
X1 Freedom Rebel Fighter
The X1 was a Pre-Republic ship lost in time with old markings of a forgotten faction. All grace and dignity were left behind in favor of raw power and functionality. This combat-ready ship's oversized cannons were optimized with its powerful engines for the best obliteration of its enemy. Dogfighting against it was not advisable if you valued your life.
Some say X-Wing was inspired by this relic a long time ago.
