LUTHERIA SALVERYN, THE RIMEHERALD.

(Winter Wipeout, Pt. 4)

This is my fourth entry into the Winter Wipeout contest hosted by @haon.brx over on Instagram! The theme for this fourth week was "Snow Mages." My entry is an Aasimar Evocation Wizard who specializes in spells that deal cold damage. She wields the powerful and mysterious Staff of the Snow Globe, said to be filled with magic from another realm, far in the future. Lutheria is an incredibly accomplished mage and alchemist known as the "Rimeherald," being incredibly capable of condensing the air and moisture around her into frost, and employing it to devastating effects. It's said that often when she leaves a room, a small trail of snowflakes flutter in the air behind the sweeping train of her robes. At her side is her trusty familiar, Frostbeak, the snowy owl, and "Zero," her ice elemental myrmidon, bound to a magical suit of armor.

As mentioned in the first post, there's a bit of story and lore wrapped in the form of some poetry/lyrics, so read on if you're curious!

"It's said if you listen to the winter winds howl,

You'll hear the spirits of those from the past

If through those winds you see soaring, a white owl

The spirits may answer to the spell that is cast.

Magic at the will of the snow mage most true—

The Rimeherald, a legend, a myth amongst folk—

Which beckons lost souls like a warm igloo

In the blizzard unceasing, her staff does evoke.

This famed one lent power when malice was roused

And the people relinquished all hope for salvation

When time came to locate the quarry, she dowsed

Her trail of snow pointed toward liberation.

Armed with her ice elemental myrmidon

Who bent to her will and protected her life

She pressed on til the darkness yielded to the dawn

And freed the Altairians from starvation and strife."

Somewhere on a desert highway

She rides a Harley-Davidson

Her long blonde hair flyin' in the wind

She's been runnin' half her life

The chrome and steel she rides

Collidin' with the very air she breathes

The air she breathes...

Many legends have been handed down in the Northern lands about these magical creatures of the woods and caves: the Trolls. Even here in Piedmont stories like these have been handed down by grandparents such as the legend of "Po Valley's faie"... They were small and hairy women always very busy who lived in the mountains in the deep of woods and They taught to women to knit and sew... The farmers who went to the woods to make firewood saw their laundry hanging on the rocks to dry. If they touched it, the "faie" stalked them secretly with stones but if they put it back, the stones throwing stopped. Sometimes you could hear someone singing, dancing and playing in the mountains but if you went to look for them, you couldn't find anyone. Often these stories were told around the fire during the long winter days for amusing and sometimes frightening too the children.

Legend of the Seas in Brisbane

The artist i picked was Robert Johnson. I have been a huge fan of his for many years and the legends surrounding him allowed me to create something far more magical and surreal than i think i could have gotten from a modern celebrity. The image of Robert himself is based on a mix of the only 2 surviving photos of him, and the idea of the piece is of course meeting the devil at the crossroads. this myth came about from Robert suddenly becoming amazingly talented in a short space of time, they said he met the devil who was a large black male at the crossroads who tuned his guitar and it from then on played amazingly well (this is represented in the piece by the black hands tuning the guitar and his hands mirroring that of the devils). There are a lot of myths about this event one was that it wasnt the devil himself in a christian sense but legba the african trickster god who sat at crossroads between worlds and who often deals where made (the creature on Roberts left is Legba, the character on the upper right is the devils reaper with a scroll which is meant to represent the deal, the words are part of the lyrics to me and the devil blues). The bottle near the bottom pertains to his death, that he was poisoned after making moves on a woman married or in a relationship. The structure at the top is based on the memorial at the crtossroads where the deal supposadly happened, the mouth in the guitar relates to the myth that his guitar sung, america was very suppersticious especially in african american communities at this time, they new he had made a deal with the devil, and when he played live he would play in a corner with his back to the audience, people viewed this as occult at the least bizzare and due to how well he played and the innovative ways in which he used pitch in his vocals people thought one man couldnt possibly be making qall them sounds, in reality no one knows why he played like this, maybe just to stop his techniques being stolen. The grey curved objects throughout represent probably the most accurate angle on the story, Robert traveled on a lot in his life, rambling from state to state on his journeys he met Ike Zimmerman and they used to practice in a graveyard as it was quiet and they wouldn't be disturbed it is said this is how he learnt so much in such a short time.

Supermarine Spitfire MkIa G-CFGJ

Built at the Supermarine factory at Southampton, Supermarine Spitfire VIIIc N3200 made its first flight on 29th November 1939 and after storage, was delivered to 19 Squadron at Duxford on 19th April 1940. When flying from RAF Hornchurch in the hands of Sqn. Ldr. G D Stephenson, it was shot down and made a wheels up landing on the beach near Sangatte, France on 25th May 1940. Covered by the sea and sand, the wreck was forgotten until discovered and recovered in 1986. Acquired by the current owner in 2000 the Spitfire was brought to Duxford and rebuilt by Historic Flying Ltd. It made its first flight on 26th March 2014 in the hands of John Romain.

The Hurricane was the RAF’s first monoplane fighter, going into service before its famous partner in RAF service the Spitfire. The Hurricane was available in greater numbers for its finest hour in the Battle of Britain, where it played a crucial role in the defense of this country, shooting down more enemy aircraft than the Spitfire.

Hurricane Mk XIIa 5711 (G-HURI) was rebuilt in the 1980’s from the best original Hurricane parts sourced, in the previous 10 years, from all over Canada. It was given the identity of aircraft CCF c/n 72036 as that aircraft was the source of the airframe used in the rebuild. RCAF 5711 had been built in 1942 by the Canadian Car Foundry as part of their sixth production batch and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943. It is believed to have served with 123 Squadron at Debert before going to 127 and 129 Squadrons at Dartmouth and onto 1 Operational Training Unit at

Bagotville.

A Stairway to the garden in the "Donnafugata castle" Sicily 2007

The Castle of Donnafugata is twenty kilometers from Ragusa. Instead of quantities name can not think this is a genuine medieval castle but a sumptuous nobleman of the late'800.

There are several hypotheses on the origin of the name "Donnafugata". Is usually attributed to a legendary episode, as the escape of Queen Bianca of Navarra, widow of King Martin I of Aragon and regent of the kingdom of Sicily who was imprisoned in the castle by Count Bernardo Cabrera, who aspired to his hand and, above all to title of king. In fact, the construction of the castle is next to the legend. Others suggested the name is the free interpretation and transcription of Arabic term as Ayn Jafat (Source of Health) and the "Sicilian" becomes Ronnafuata, hence the current name.

The first construction of the castle seem due to Chiaramonte, balances Modica in the XIV century. In the fifteenth century became the residence of Bernardo Cabrera at large justice of the Kingdom of Sicily. Subsequently, the building was purchased by Francesco Maria De Spuches Arezzo, of Donnafugata baron who made a casina campaign. Most of the construction but it should be his son, the baron Conrad Arezzo, a man of eclectic and political studies.
