I bet that you did not know that the official name for Smithfield Market is Smithfield Plaza.

The Christmas tree at Smithfield [ designed by Blachere the company which created the lighting for the Eiffel Tower] was originally installed on O’Connell Street before being moved to Smithfield. I was disappointed that it was relocated.

According to the city council, it paid €36,809 last December to private firm 2B Light Company in relation to this tree, including €26,961 for the installation and removal of the 18 metre, five-ton, eco-friendly tree illuminated by 100,000 bulbs. In addition, the firm was paid €5,500 for the storage of the tree while the total includes a 13.5 per cent VAT component of €4,378.

The Mayor of Dublin recently stated that the city council’s spending on natural trees “is justified because of the Christmas cheer the trees bring and the community spirit they create, but I would have concerns over the ongoing costs associated with the Led Christmas tree at Smithfield.”

Personally I like the tree and I do hope that they continue to use it every Christmas going forward. I would be even happier if it was returned to O’Connell Street now that the tram construction works will have been completed by Christmas 2017.

This is the ceiling light in my bedroom, you can't get a clear view of the bulbs themselves (they are spotlight bulbs) but you can guess the amount of light this way.

I'll take a better photo to show the bulb as soon as I fix the wiring problem.

Consume: about 2 W each spotlight.

From what was originally two very poor wardrobe spaces serving two adjacent bedrooms, a compact ensuite bathroom has been created. Although the floor plan was extended slightly in to the 2nd bedroom, impact was minimal and the planned replacement wardrobes still leave a good sized room for a double bed and a feature desk area, which was incorporated in to the reclaimed brick additions.

The brief was for an ensuite bathroom that would be suitable for use by all age groups, particularly bathing young children. The automated systems are simple to learn and operate and can be set up so that the maximum water temperature will never get to a scald point. Clean lines, clutter free but with spaces to place wash bags to hand, was essential. The choice of materials and method of installation must give many years of trouble-free service whilst maintaining style and quality of finish.

The use of a square 'P bath' to give a decent shower option was enhanced by reversing the conventional layout and keeping the flat side of the bath on the outer side. This made way for the ledge feature that grows out of the basin plinth.

This was a requirement to enable the fitting of the Aqualisa digital bath filler control unit and associated handshower/selector valve as the broad ledge of the bath is now on the 'wrong' side (The narrow side being too small to accept taps etc).

I prefer the look this creates, with good proportions and pleasing geometry, plus it makes for ready access for any valve servicing in the future.

Including this test-shot so you can see how I set up the other photos, since they're a bit abstract. I ended up placing a highly polished glass lensball on top of a polished concave mirror, in order to capture as much light as possible from the Apature MC LED light.
