The Parbold Bottle, originally known as the Reform Pillar, was erected in 1832 on Parbold Hill to celebrate the Great Reform Act, which marked the birth of modern democracy in the UK. Built by the quarry workers and owners of Parbold, it was designed to resemble a Georgian port bottle and became a symbol of hope for a fairer voting system. Over time, it fell into disrepair but was restored in 1958 and now sits lower down Parbold Hill, offering a picturesque view of the Douglas Valley. The monument serves as a reminder of the struggle for democratic reform and the ongoing campaign for a more inclusive voting system.
