Conrail 6228 leads a mail train past the old tower for "Tower Tuesday", a tower that had a long time ago simply become "CP 141". Already severely downgraded in the PC era, Bellefontaine at one time hosted six different NYC lines heading out of town as well as a good size yard. The tower was the only remaining structure at the time of the photo, and actually somehow remains such today even under CSX, but it is surrounded by tree's these days. Even though Conrail was almost history at the time of the photo, good old #MAIL-44 was still running right on schedule. Actually even about 30 minutes early for it's scheduled 11 AM passing of CP 141.
LTEX 4465 leads a westbound KYLE train approaching Kanorado Kansas. The train is rolling trough "Kanorado Hole", a decent hogback three miles east of town.
CSRX 252 leads the 216 and the 7470 back from Hazen's to N.Conway. They are about to cross Route 302 in Faybans. This shot was taken from the parking lot at a nearby church. It just so happens they planted flowers on the embankment next to the tracks, to spell out "Hail Merry" and it made a perfect shot possible.
BP 3884 leads an SIRI bound only got Johnsonburg, with an SD50 and SD40 across the NY/PA State Line.
47828 leads dead 47593 south pass Hest Bank with a very late running 5Z59 Kilmarnock - Crewe ECS working. 29 May 2023.

50049 'Defiance' leads an immaculate 66737 'Lesia' past Milton Malsor working the 0Z60 1506 Kidderminster S.V.R. to Stewarts Lane T&R.S.M.D.
The pair are due to work a private GBRF charter on 05/06/21 from London Victoria to the Severn Valley Railway.

Freightliner 66610 leads the 6L72 0718 Toton Centre to Chesterton Junction Fhh through Waterbeach, on the 8th March 2021.
CP 8834 leads Chicago bound marine stack train #148 east across the swing bridge over the mouth of the Shuswap River at Sicamous, BC.
During the summer months, this bridge is constantly opening and closing for tourists navigating some of the over 200 rental houseboats that call the lake home in and out of the marina. The towns along Shuswap Lake swell in seasonal population as visitors mostly from the urban centers of British Columbia, and Alberta flock to the region for its warm temperatures, beaches, and watersports.
Until 2014, Sicamous was the junction with CP's Okanagan Subdivision branch line, which diverged south from the main just past the left edge of the image. CP leased the line to shortline operator Omnitrax in 1998. After the largest shipper on the line closed in 2008, the shortline folded. The right of way was sold to the regional district in 2014 for a rails to trails project.
IANR 3806 leads CRWA-26 as it pokes forward as it serves the grain elevator on the east side of Vinton on a dreary post-Christmas day - taken on the IANR Cedar Rapids Subdivision.
With just one week left of Iowa Northern's independence, the parachute foamers will certainly rain down across the system in a desperate last-ditch effort to capture some Iowa Northern action over this upcoming weekend. Being stuck in Iowa City during the week has kept me from documenting the last several months' worth of action, but I do hope to get out there this weekend too. Let's play nice, fellas. From the sound of it, last weekend was nothing more than a fart sniffing contest, all brought about by the coolest of the cool from the Chicago region. The Iowa Northern power will likely stick around at least for a little while, so let's cut the hysterics this weekend, sound good? Alright, enough of my soapbox PSAing, no one asked for that, but I did it anyway. It sure feels good to act all high and mighty like I have any sort of real control over the hooligans that show up and ruin things for everyone who actually lives in the region. For real though, just be chill.
519 leads the westbound Borealis through Dakota. A first for me, as I had never shot an Amtrak dash 8 before. Unsurprisingly, people were already camped out at this spot well in advance for 2816's return trip.
The track leads to St. Begas' Church, to the right behind the large tree. Very close to the spot that inspired Alfred Tennyson with his poem Morte d' Arthur.
Arthur, dying, bids Sir Bedivere cast Excalibur into the mere which he reluctantly does on his third attempt.
So flashed and fell the brand Excalibur
But ere he dipt the surface, rose an arm
Clothed in white samite, mystic, wonderful.
And caught him by the hilt, ...
56045 leads 6Y20 09:51 Cliffe Brett Marine - Chessington South Sidings past Culvert Place in Wandsworth.
56045 has recently been acquired by DC rail (as 56301) from the Class 56 Group and has now been re-painted out of its former 'Fastline' colours into a splendid representation of it's former BR Blue, complete with a reversion to its original number.
56103 in DC Rail's own livery has come along for the ride which will now involve the train travelling up to Willesden for a run round before returning to Clapham Junction, just a couple of hundred meters from this spot!
37218 leads 37716 past the remaining North Eastern Railway steel lattice signal gantry at Harrogate. Returning to York, the train is Sundays 3S29, an out and back 08:27 from York to Hellifield via Harrogate and Leeds. November the 6th 2022.
Thanks to Gordon Edgar for pointing this one out.
Simple wooden bridge now leads to a hidden destination. It is a foggy morning in the fall season. The leaves of the willow tree have yellowed and some have already fallen on the bridge.

nature trails, when she leads, nature trails, where she leads... series
__________
What it is, heaven knows.
Where the trail leads, well who can say?
Pick up the scent, it's stuck to your skin
Before you know it the chase begins
Nature trails, where she leads
Like a pet at her feet
Don't be sad, you'll be set free tomorrow
Some foreign place or distant shore
Cover the traces, lock all the doors
Those brighter lights confuse the eyes
But there's still one thing you recognise
Nature trails, when she leads
Come on, give up, you're on your knees
One mistake and you'll be there forever
Caught like a leaf in the wind...
When Nature trails you had to follow too
Open the door and look inside
It's as you left yet it not quite right
The fading scent says something's wrong
Someone has been here, someone has gone...
Nature trails, where she leads
Like a pet at her feet
Don't be sad, you'll be set free tomorrow
Nature trails, when she leads
Come on, give up, you're on your knees
One mistake and you'll be there forever
Caught like a leaf in the wind...
When Nature trails

CSX (ex-Conrail) SD60i #8726 leads a east bound Q358 on the ex-B&O Keystone sub at Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania. April 8, 2012. Jack D Kuiphoff © photo
CSX #8726 was built as Conrail #5585
Amtrak 160 leads the Beech Grove segment of Amtrak’s Cardinal at Lafayette Junction, wearing the heritage “Dash 8 Phase III” scheme in the “Pepsi Can” livery that many Dash 8s on the Amtrak roster wore upon delivery. With a lot of actual Dash 8s being on this train in the area over the last year, this is the closest we will get to getting this scheme back, not on a real dash 8 unfortunately (4/2/25).
BLE 903 leads a Minntac pellet train past the MP 3.5 signal on July 18, 2018. This U791 has been running downgrade since MP 16 near Highland. The route flattens for a short stretch here near Waldo, but once past the signal, the loads start down the steepest part of the grade into Two Harbors. The next three miles are all +2% grade, with it topping out at 2.9% for a stretch down to Lake Superior.
The L6 milepost is for the Loop Line, now called the Two Harbors Sub., which takes a longer, flatter route for the empties to work away from Lake Superior.
Big GE 655 leads a Binghamton bound Lanesboro Detour train at the old Erie coaling tower in Susquehanna, PA on 12/28/1985. This was supposedly the last Lanesboro detour train, so the Lanesboro helpers that assisted in the run around move on the Penn Division were left on the end of the train for the trip to Binghamton. The newly rebuilt tunnel was open for train traffic and the first train would pass thru it later that afternoon. After New Years, the Lanesboro detour was used again for a couple of days so that some final finishing work could be completed on the tunnel. Once the tunnel work was complete, the D&H Penn Division was gone forever. There were a few railfans on hand for the final move on the Penn Division, most notably the late J.J. Young Jr., and his photo essay from that final train was featured in an issue of Railpace as I recall. This day in December was my last hurrah however, and the last time I was ever at this location.
T448p-111 leads a set of loaded tanker wagons through the sad, brown, wintery fields on the outskirts of Gdynia, just before terminating its short journey of 4 kilometers.
The fuel base number 21 in Dębogórze is a fun thing to see whenever you are in the area of the Polish northern Tricity (Gdynia+Sopot+Gdańsk). Its railway track is completely detached from the urban part of Gdynia and instead runs through the fields on its outskirts, which makes for a nice atmosphere (at least in summer...), which almost lets us forget that it's not a real full-scale unelectrified railway line.
The rolling stock of PERN, which is stationed at this base almost reminds us of the Czech Republic or Slovakia. They have two T448p locomotives and (since August 2023!) S200-289, only a Brejlovec and Barodtka are missing for the full experience. The newly aquired six-axle S200 locomotive was one of the main targets of my stay in Gdynia for the winter holidays, as I didn't manage to see it in action during summer. Until recently it was the only broad gauge S200 in Poland, because it served trains from the east at the base no. 13 in Zawadówka.
The whole railway network of the fuel base is comprised of two stations, one of which is used as a pickup point for other railway carriers - mostly Orlen, and the other for loading the tank wagons. They are connected by a track with around 3 kilometers of length. The fuel base itself has a direct pipeline connection to the harbour in Gdynia, from which it takes its entire supply of liquid products for storage and later shipping into Poland.
If you ever do decide to drop by, you are almost destined to see some traffic, as there are up to 3 pairs of trains during daytime. I wholeheartedly recommend coming here for some almost-branchline vibes with lots of diesel action... until it gets really monotonous.
Sadly I once again failed to catch the S200. Well, better luck next time I guess.

CSXT SD40-3 #4062 leads LSRC Z127 out of Holly coming up to the Milford Road crossing going by a nice long line of Telegraph poles!
CN 8331 Leads G851 Westbound On Approach To Kissick And Passes A Former Cattle Load Here. This Was Probably My Favourite Photo From My Recent Trip To Kamloops With A Couple Of Friends. Hope Y’all Enjoy This Image As Much As I Did!
BNSF 7161 leads a southbound light power move down the Hillsboro Sub and on its way out of Grand Forks, ND. The larger wagon wheel nose logo was always welcome on these H2 SD40-2s
I was about 1 month into ownership of my Canon Digital Rebel XT. I was still trying to figure out not just how to best use the thing (and its kit lens) but also trying to figure out the lay of the railroad land as I was still new to the area. As such, I have no idea where this power move was headed...best guess would be to the grain facility in Alton.
But, more than 17 and a half years later, we can look back and see what became of each of these EMDs:
BNSF 7161: Built as BN 7161, became BNSF 7161, then HLCX 7161, then GAVX 7161 (Gavilon?), and finally TDCX 7161 (The DeLong Company, parked as best I can tell in Avalon, WI).
BNSF 8015: Built as BN 8015, became BNSF 8015, and as best I can tell, is still on the roster as BNSF 1666.
NS 5404: SD50 built as CR 6708, became NS 5404, and was rebuilt as NS 6321 (SD40E).
NS 1072 leads Pan Am Southern train 16R out of the 4.75 mile long Hoosac Tunnel into daylight in Florida, MA. This is one of the more interesting locations on the west end of the PAS Freight Main. It has interesting history to say the least.
NS SD60E 7008 leads a westbound manifest across the Susquehanna River on the Rockville Bridge. The train will turn south and pull into Enola Yard.
September 14, 2017.
R766 leads the return of the first Singleton shuttle of the day, seen here passing through Lochinvar. Two shuttles were being run this day between Maitland and Singleton.
The chalk on the smokebox door is honouring a long time volunteer of THNSW who recently passed away, Leon Kingas Rudd.
One thing leads to another. It had been raining first thing this morning and the front doorstep was laden with white rose petals. When it had dried a bit I brushed them off. Whilst doing so great gusts of wind was thrashing at the long rose flower stems flopping them to and fro in front of the doorstep. In case someone came to the door I thought I’d better cut some back and enjoy the roses indoors. As I put them in a vase I thought they needed some other colours so I picked some Nigella and red campion to go with them.
Thank you everyone so much for sharing your quality photos which is a great way to see and keep in touch with the world from home. Also for your kind comments and favours which are much valued. I am not able to take on any more members to follow or to post to groups. I prefer not to receive invites to groups
DB Cargo UK 66001 leads 92041 'Vaughan Williams' though Kensington Olympia, 0B55 1515 from Wembley Eur Frt Ops Cntre to Dollands Moor Sdgs.
UP 7521 leads a quartet of flag'd Armour Yellow units south into Larkspur, CO.
This was my second flag'd quartet in a two-week span, which, my increasingly prove to be a rarity. There's a rumor going around the Union Pacific is going to drop the flag image on the longhood.
NS high hood GP38-2 #5109 leads an Atlanta, GA to Memphis,TN bare table train past the 94.3 intermediate signal at Seney, GA on Norfolk Southerns Atlanta North District.
A clean Conrail Quality SD45-2 leads CSX Q432 north on the River Sub at Teaneck, NJ. There is a lot going on in this relatively common photo of two trains meeting at Teaneck. First, this is post-Conrail split, so it was uncommon to have an NS-owned SD45-2 is leading a CSX train. Months after the split, it seems 6654 had yet to be renumbered, making it still "pure Conrail". 6654 would soon be "patched" as NS 1700. It would be repainted twice, first in a coat of standard NS black and white and eventually in Erie Lackawanna gray, maroon and yellow. I believe Q432 had been Conrail symbol "OISE" (today's CSX Q434). The trailing unit is Electro-Motive leasing 6411, a former Conrail SD40. Finally, the center siding between Teaneck and Bogota was clearly still under construction. The line was graded and ties installed, but rail and ballast had yet to come.
CSX Q432:
CR 6654 SD45-2 (ex-EL 3669)
EMDX 6411 SD40 (ex-PC/CR 6263)
BNSF 6852 leads a Portland bound Q train through east control point of Hope siding. With the Northern Pacific signals falling sometime this winter or early next year I made a priority to shoot all the signals left on the MRL 4th subdivision. After having a good pizza (Rocco's pizza) in the town of Clark Fork, I heard a horn of a westbound in the distance and headed up to east Hope. Nice end to a beautiful day on the 4th sub.
Norfolk Southern's Wabash heritage unit, freshly painted at this time, leads train 111 through the Southern searchlights at Danville.
An ex ATSF SD45 leads CSX autorack train Q236-08 through the S curve at Acworth,GA into some sweet evening sunlight.
An SD70ACe-T4 leads loaded aggregate gondolas on UP train RNLAMQ-10 as it enters UP's Armourdale Yard in Kansas City, KS. This was loaded at a Granite Mountain Quarries facility near North Little Rock, AR, and it will be unloaded at the former intermodal ramp here at Armourdale.
The smoke has once again returned, giving the sky a brown haze that has practically killed any good light here. I was already in the neighborhood, so I this anyways. 9/13/22.
