A shadow over the meditation labyrinth in the churchyad of Christ Episcopal Church, in Dover.

This is a photo of my Labyrinth, double exposure.

i have been a little obsessed with labyrinths since last winter. well, really, since before that-- but since our visit to the women's intercultural center in anthony, nm i have been even more obsessed. i learned how to draw one and gave it a shot at white sands under the full moon.

The Labyrinth of Amiens Cathedral is the second largest in France, being slightly smaller than its cousin in Chartres. Measuring about 12.1 meters wide, the labyrinth occupies the entire width of the fourth and fifth bays of the nave, and is thought to have originally been placed in the cathedral in 1288. Although it is octagonal, its tracks follow the same pattern as Chartres, which is why it is considered to be an Octagonal, Chartres-type labyrinth. Comprised of “white-and-blue-black” stones, its entrance opens to the west, with the white stones acting as the labyrinthine obstacles.

Prior to the French Revolution, the labyrinth’s center comprised of a medallion which stated: In the year of grace 1220, the construction of this church first began. Blessed Evrard was at that time bishop of the diocese. The king of France was then Louis the son of Philip the wise. He who directed the work was called Master Robert, surnamed Luzarches. Master Thomas de Cormont came after him, and after him his son Renaud, who had placed here this inscription in the year of the incarnation, 1288.

Pans Labyrinth effect with GIMP. Just a quick "lets see if I can" project. I followed this tutorial with the additional step of rotating the eyes to look more "natural" before masking them in.

For this project, I headed the foam patterning, and helped with some of the mechanical design and cabling.

The project came about in August 2016, when Karen Prell (original performer of the Worm in Labyrinth) came to Dragon Con Puppetry Track curator Beau Brown with an idea to have a giant version of the Worm character appear in the Annual Parade. Molly Coffee headed the project, and she, Spencer Murrill and I met to start the initial work on what would be a huge undertaking! Many Atlanta makers touched this project, and the Worm was a huge success at Dragon Con!
