The inscriptions dating back to the 12th century clearly support this. The exterior of which is founded on 92 elephant carvings and the interiors embedded amidst 108 stone carved pillars. Besides, the temple is studded with stunning pieces of carvings, ranging from that of Gods and Goddeses, dancing girls, men from Africa and Arabia besides that of birds and animals.
The Temple is divided into four major sections - the Swargamandapam, Sabhamandapam, Antaral Kaksha and Garbha griha. the Swargamandapam is separated from the main temple and has 12 round pillars ascending towards the ceiling. beautiful images of kings, queens and their vehicles are carved on them. the three rows of 12 pillars each are adorned with beautiful artistic designs. A large, black, flat stone 14 feet in diameter is installed at the centre of the Swargamandapam. The Swargmandapam has a circular open ceiling also made of stone is also intricately carved — meant let out smoke during a Yagna for which the hall was made.

LMS Jubilee class 4-6-0 no.45593 Kolhapur with Stanier 3500 gallon tender number 4625. This tender is also seen in another photo of mine on Flickr showing Jubilee no 45562 Alberta at Tyseley for spares. 45593 ran with this tender for a number of years but exchanged tenders in 1967 with 45562 (which had a Stanier 4000 gallon tender) when the latter was withdrawn. However tender 4625 and various spares from Alberta were purchased by the Standard Gauge Steam Trust at Tyseley in 1968. Eventually the tender was sold to John Bunch who used the chassis to create a new tender to run with BR Standard 5 no.73096. The tank was then passed on to Roger Hibbert owner of LMS 8F no 48305. who fitted it to an ex MR Johnson chassis.

5595 Kolhapur done up most attractively as first of class 5552 Silver Jubilee. The black livery with chrome fittings was carried on the original 5552 when first in service from 1935 and would have been eye catching when kept clean. Ironically the original 5552's identity was swapped with 5642's after a few months and was never changed back again. Loughborough GCR...July 3 1994.

An up Manchester train on the fast line. Lattice girder signal posts were very unusual on the LNW, and these were probably LMS replacements.

45593 was a Stanier Jubilee class, named Kolhapur, built 1934 and withdrawn 1967.
Stanier Jubilee 45593 Kolhapur passes Mirfield Shed light engine on 22 December 1966. Allocated to Leeds Holbeck (55A) at the time, it would be the penultimate Jubilee to be withdrawn from service on 15 October, 1967. Chosen for preservation, the loco is currently at Tysley. With three of the four preserved Jubilees currently on mainline duty, it may be some time before the loco is restored to working order. The area behind the loco is now an extensive housing estate.

LMS 'Jubilee' 4-6-0 5593 ''Kolhapur'' - with new Crimson Lake paint - at Tyseley, in mid-1968. Some of the finishing touches - including fitting the nameplates - are still to be completed.
As steam locos - apart from 4472, which had a pre-existing agreement - were banned from BR mainline tracks after August 1968, the loco was only able to put in appearances at various 'steam days' in BR loco yards and sidings around the UK, and on preserved railways..
Today, the loco is a static exhibit at Tyseley, but has recently been repainted from BR green to LMS crimson (again)..

Kushti (Indian Wrestling) is a popular game at Kolhapur. In this south-eastern Indian city, Kushti has a long tradition. It used to be supported by local maharajas. Some of the Kings were themselves, good wrestlers. This game flourished here during the reign of Shri Chatrapati Shahu Maharaj, the King of Kolhapur, who ascended the throne in 1894.
During this golden age, the monarch built hundreds of Akhadas all over the city and held tournaments, inviting best wrestlers from all over India and beyond.
Wrestlers wake ups at 3:30 AM in the morning. They practice six times a week more than 6 hours every day. They live together in one small room above the arena and their only belongings are a blanket, few items of clothes and some books about the art of Kushti.
