I didn't get many action shots of 45593 "Kolhapur" while it carried Brunswick Green. Here's it's powering brake van rides during an Open Day at Barrow Hill on the 22nd July 2000.

LMS Stanier '5XP' or 'Jubilee' Class (BR Class '6P') 4-6-0 No.5593 'Kolhapur' (BR No.45593) in 1937 Crimson Lake livery at Tyseley Shed, 6 July 2014. It has a Stanier Mk.II 4,000 gll welded tender.

LMS Jubilee class 5593 Kolhapur is seen in this early Great Central Railway image leaving Quorn & Woodhouse in 1991. This scene has changed a good deal since this date with double track having been reinstated and the whole environment is now much more orderly.

About Kushti : - Kushti (Indian Wrestling) is a popular game at Kolhapur. In this south-eastern Indian city, Kushti has a long tradition. It used to be supported by local maharajas. Some of the Kings were themselves, good wrestlers. This game flourished here during the reign of Shri Chatrapati Shahu Maharaj, the King of Kolhapur, who ascended the throne in 1894.

During this golden age, the monarch built hundreds of Akhadas all over the city and held tournaments, inviting best wrestlers from all over India and beyond.

Wrestlers wake ups at 3:30 AM in the morning. They practice six times a week more than 6 hours every day. They live together in one small room above the arena and their only belongings are a blanket, few items of clothes and some books about the art of Kushti.

Another first in 1969 was my visit to Tyseley for their Open Day in May. One of the many highlights, and one more first, was seeing Stanier Jubilee 4-6-0 5593 Kolhapur in steam.

After closure to steam in 1966 the large GWR water tanks and coaling plant seen through the mist on the right were converted into a workshop for the Birmingham Railway Museum.

LMS Jubilee 5593 Kolhapur at Tyseley, June 2018. Today Vintage Trains have announced they plan to restore the locomotive to mainline running condition, excellent news which will hopefully come to fruition.

The third main line steam engine based at the Birmingham Railway Museum in 1969 was LMS Stanier Jubilee 5XP 4-6-0 5593 Kolhapur.

After closure to steam in 1966 the large GWR water tanks and coaling plant behind were converted into a workshop for the Birmingham Railway Museum. In the early 70s additional buildings were erected between the engine & the tanks.

Today the site is home to Vintage Trains and the much expanded Tyseley Locomotive Works. Early in 2024 it was revealed that after 56 years at Tyseley Kolhapur had been sold as it did not fit with their requirements. Maybe because it isn't GWR? It requires a heavy overhaul but the new owner has not be announced.

Local newspaper 'The Southport Visiter' ran successful annual charters from the mid 1980's to the early 90's. Jubilee's, Black 5's and finally 'Flying Scotsman' were the traction with experienced Newton Heath and Southport footplate crews.

In September 1986, immaculate Tyesley Jubilee 5593 'Kolhapur' was rostered and here she climbing the stiff grade from Lostock Junction to Westhoughton.

My family went on a ten day trip to Kolhapur India. To see my friends daughter's wedding. Sorry I did not do many photos. But here is My self portrait in the ceiling mirrors at the Sayaji Hotel, Kolhapur India. My son AJ did not go. I had a fantastic time and hope to go back some day and really do some photos.

LMS Stanier “Jubilee” 4-6-0 45593 “Kolhapur” was reallocated Holbeck MPD in April 1965 and became a regular performer over the Settle and Carlisle line. It was one of the few active “Jubilees” which had survived into 1967 and was given celebrity status with regular cleaning and kept in pristine condition, a great contrast to its condition shown here. After withdrawal in October 1967 it was selected for preservation by the late Patrick Whitehouse for the then “Standard Gauge Steam Trust” which later became the “Tyseley Locomotive Works” and is based at the old Tyseley MPD.

The previous day 'Kolhapur' had worked 'The Lancashire Coast Express' Derby - Southport.

Ex-LMS 'Jubilee' 4-6-0 45593 ''Kolhapur'' at Carnforth shed in April 1966, during the Jubilee Railway Society 'South Yorkshireman No.5' railtour.

The loco was withdrawn in October 1967, but was purchased for preservation in 1968, and moved to Tyseley museum.

Today (2017) 45593 is at Tyseley Loco Works, awaiting a compete overhaul.

Carnforth shed closed to steam in 1968, but later became 'Steamtown Carnforth', and regularly open to the public for some years. In 1998 it was closed to the public, but is still in use today, as a base and maintenance facility for preserved steam on UK mainlines..

BR Jubilee class 45593 'Kolhapur' at Skipton, Yorkshire station on, I believe, April 30th 1966. It was heading 'The South Yorkshireman No.5 Rail Tour' from Bradford to Carlisle. Note the bowler-hatted crewman, probably an Inspector, what appear to be a 'Black 5' in the main down platform and 'Jinty' on shunting duties, and yellow cab-side warning stripe. This was my first railway photo with a much-improved though modest camera replacing old Brownie Box camera, thank goodness. Unfortunately, thanks to budget constraints I had to use Agfa 35mm CT-18 colour slide film ("Agfacolor") which produces a purplish tinge, now mostly limited to the bottom corners since a high-res scan and other adjustments.

Click on this high-res photo for a good close-up look.

Ex-LMS Stanier ‘Jubilee’ class 4-6-0 45593 ‘’Kolhapur’’ at Leeds Holbeck shed, on a wet day in August 1967, with 'not under AC wires south of Crewe' yellow stripe.. It had entered service in December 1934, and was named in 1939, and was withdrawn in October 1967, and purchased for preservation in January 1968.

It was sold again in 2024, and today (2025) the loco is at Carnforth waiting for its next heavy overhaul..

The shed closed to steam at the end of September 1967, and today (2025) part of the site is still in use, by railway maintenance and refurbishment companies..

A quiet day in the Peak District ! Kolhapur climbs through Dove Holes cutting with the "Buxton Spa Express" I think this was the first steam working to Buxton since the end of steam in 1968,hence the huge gallery.

In India, the state of Maharashtra is one of the largest contributor in agriculture. Most farmers own farms, where they grow their own crops. But due to uncertainty of produce, some rely on sugarcane harvesting as it provides them a guaranteed income at least during the harvesting season.

These photos and videos show the daily routine of these farmers and their working environment.
